I second that. It wont do much good. Plus you'll need a good mechanic to get the air/fuel mixture just right. Even i had plans of putting a k&n long back but my mechanic advised me against it.

@Prashanth: Very tough to get paper-type air filters for the Gladiator...right?I spent half of my Weekend trying to source one. Ended up paying a premium (400 bucks) at JC Road. I have read that the original price is 240 bucks. Where do you source yours' from?

I don't have a paper type air filter. Changed to a foam filter long back. I guess been around 1 and half years now since i have had a foam filter. There are no hassles getting a foam filter. I am not sure about the original price of the paper filter. I remember in 2008, these filters would cost a grand. But later they dropped the prices considerably.

      • Guys, help me out with this one:

Till date, I was under the belief that the rear shocks on the Gladiator are 'adjustable' - i.e. they can be adjusted to 'soft' for good roads and 'hard' for high loads/bad roads.

Yesterday I asked a mechanic about the adjustment and he said that my shocks were not adjustable, and the 5 grooves present in the shock absorber were for height adjustment.

I have Gabriel units, the ones present as standard on the Yamaha. They feel extremely stiff. My brother has a 2011 SZ-R and his shocks are way softer than mine. Although he is not sure about the adjustment, he has the same Gabriel units on his bike.

Please tell me if the shocks are actually adjustable or are those grooves meant for height adjustment? If they are not adjustable, how can I make them softer? My mechanic suggests manually working out the coil springs so that they become softer.

Biking is not about how many Km/h you put on your Speedo. It's about how many miles you put on your Odo. Ride Safe, Ride Long!

Well those groves are for the adjustment of shocker only (softness). Go to another mech & ask him to adjust the shocker to softer position. Its an easy job. Any mech knows it.

          • Help

            Need your help guys.

My gladiator is having one peculiar problem. Recently I had to change the spark plug since the old one died. Since then the bike while on the run seems to turn off the oil supply suddenly (don't know how to put it), same feeling you have when your bike hits reserve. I have filled almost 5 liters of petrol also and driven, the issue comes up intermittently. Its like the bike is choking on something. There is also no drop in pickup and accelerates well.

Strangely the issue is not frequent and sometimes after prolonged running also wont come up. I took the bike to mechanic but on that day bike was behaving good and so failed to identify the problem. I am at my wits end now. Don't know what to do.
            Please suggest any possible cause.
Enjoy every minute of life. Don't waste it. sigpic

Did You install the spark plug which is recommended in the manual?
The recommended one is NGK CR7HSA
              The possibilities could be:
              1. The bike is running too lean
              2. Clogged jets
              3. Incorrect gapping of the spark plug
              4. Dirty air filter
              5. Clogged fuel lines
Thats all I can think of. Seniors did I miss something?

Ride the bike for few kms and remove the sparkplug and check the color. The color should be dark tan.

I used to face that issue too. No longer present after I changed my air filters.

Thanks for the info. Will visit another mech on my way back today
BTW Which setting keeps an ideal balance between soft and firm? Mine is on the 2nd groove and it feels too firm.

I will see asap what the mechanic has put for spark plug.
Bike never had this issue until I got the new spark, so something going on with the plug. Will update if I find out something.

                  • I recently had a short ride last evening appox 124 kms. I was doing 80 constantly and managed to touch the top speed. While returning back home I found that there is a lag in the throttle response and its not smooth(like its running out of fuel). However didn't find anything this morning while riding in the city. What could be the possibilities?

                    • Guys!!!

I am planning my first ever long-distance trip on my Bike to Coorg and Back, covering 750 KM in 2 days. I will be starting early morning from Bangalore and reaching next evening, spending 1 night at Madikere.

What all do I need to check with my bike before i start? (Apart from oil levels, tyre pressure and electricals)
Will I need to have a intermediate check during the trip? If so, what all do i need to keep a check on?

This is my first long-distance trip on my bike and I am planning to have a slow-and-steady trip (not exceeding 60kph) with breaks in between. Some bike tips?

Nothing much, just do a general service well before the trip.
You can use 80% of the speed, ie if the top speed of the bike is 100 you can cruise as 80kmph, take enough butt breaks, which will allow the engine to cool down. Read it somewhere here posted by oldfox.

Very strange. Problem with the fuel? Clogged fuel line?

Just fill it up. Do all the necessary basic checks. Break whenever you need a break. Its usually the rider who'll need a break more than the bike. 60 sounds like a decent speed to ride at. You can push up till around 80. After that its just not too pleasurable to ride for a long distance. Too much engine noise. So you will feel stressed. Please do wear a helmet and riding gear if you have it. Enjoy your ride! Come back with some good pics

                            • Hi Fellas,

Its been a long time since I wrote a post. Been busy around. Coming to glady talk now, the sad part is that I haven't been able to ride it since the last 5 months. Out of station now a days. The bike is parked at home and I know how its eroding.
I have it covered with a bike cover but there isn't any covered parking at my place, so its there in the drive way. Plan to get it serviced if I am going for a weekend break.

Also I am planning to get the bike with me to Jamshedpur(project place) from Kolkata(home). 300kms only is tempting me to drive it along. What say guys! or should I simply load it on the train. Do suggest!! And the checks required before hand.
Also anybody done this stretch recently, how is the status!

                              CEE YA GUYS

                              • Hi All,

I'm looking for a new bike (again). After considering my budget, I've zeroed in on the SS 125 and would like to hear some opinions from Gladiator owners about the SS 125.

I have owned a Honda Stunner in the recent past which I sold out. Had to sell it since I was relocating to a new city. Also, I was not happy with the performance of the Stunner since it vibrated a lot even after a sprocket mod.

I would like to know if the SS 125 is vibration free till 70 Kmph (since that is normally the speed I ride at) and if the build quality on that bike is good enough to qualify as a Yamaha.

Anything else that you guys may know of, pls share with me.

                                Thanks.

Signals which are timed for 50 Kmph are also timed for 100 Kmph :)
