Hey owners, please help me out here. I am planning to buy a new bike and SS125 is in the list of probables. I liked it mainly because I'm a large guy (6', 85kg and long legs) and its a bigger bike than other 125cc bikes.
Now I see Gladiator is very common in second hand market. So thinking of maybe going for a used Gladiator instead of a new one, because the prices are as cheap as 25k and if I service it properly it can be brought to new condition and I save loads of cash.
Problem is all second hand Gladiators or SS125s I see online for sale the owners mention mileages in the range of 40. Isn't this very very low for a 125cc (or even a 150cc) bike ? What is the actual mileage a new SS125 gives, and can a second hand bike be brought back to the same condition ? If yes what will it cost and what are the parts that may have to be replaced ?Currently without a vehicle. Uber App and Bangalore Metro serving all my travel needs.

I had gladiator SS for the past 3.3 yrs and I had always managed to get 60+ mileage. Yes gladiator doesn't have a good resale value, I was offered 16k for a well maintained bike but somehow managed to sell it to 23k. When You go for a used bike make sure that it doesn't emit black smoke from the exhaust when revved. If it smokes then the bore and piston are the culprit, a rebore or a new block is needed.Originally posted by MHG View PostHey owners, please help me out here. And what about white smoke ?Currently without a vehicle. Uber App and Bangalore Metro serving all my travel needs.

I am not sure about the cost of a new block, IMHO its not worth going for a bike which smokes or You have a reason to bring the price down but, later You might have to shell out in the restoration of the bike. When the oil is burnt along with the fuel and air mixture it emits black smoke. In a 4 stroke engine, oil should never enter the combustion chamber.Originally posted by MHG View PostWhat does a new block cost ?
And what about white smoke ?
I do not know about white smoke, if You happen to know please share it with us.

I'm not a techie when it comes to bikes. Just an observation that 4-stroke bikes don't emit colored smoke, when in new/good condition. Atleast the newer bikes I have seen (excluding old bullets) that are well maintained run without visible smoke. So logic says isn't something is wrong with white smoke ?Originally posted by Ri$hi View PostI do not know about white smoke, if You happen to know please share it with us.

black smoke indicates fuel air mixture is very rich so fuel is wasted...ie complete combustion doesnt take place and carbon mono oxide by product is obtained(for a complete combustion of fuel the only by products are carbon dioxide and water)
white smoke indicates engine oil is being burnt along with the fuel
possible reason is that the piston rings are the culprit and u need an engine job to be donePulsar 200NS parts list

What color smoke does a bike emit when its running too lean? (without the filter)Originally posted by mayank.travadi View Postblack smoke indicates fuel air mixture is very rich so fuel is wasted...ie complete combustion doesnt take place and carbon mono oxide by product is obtained(for a complete combustion of fuel the only by products are carbon dioxide and water)

running without filter? it is very harmful for your engine
dust will enter the engine and screw it up big time
no colour when running lean..Pulsar 200NS parts list

The mechanics does that when they try to isolate the issue when the bike doesn't start with their hands on the carburrettor.Originally posted by mayank.travadi View Postrunning without filter? it is very harmful for your engine

I have noticed white smoke when the bike is running too lean, You can also remove the plug and see. The color of the plug tells You if its running rich or lean. The color of the plug will be white in color when its too lean, black when too rich. Dark tan is appropriate color. In the same way white smoke comes when the mixture is too lean and vice versa. When the oil is burnt You can see visible black smoke. When the mixture is too rich You get black smoke but its hardly visible.

as far as i know white smoke is for engine oil burning...black smoke isnt...post ur query on help sction to know more...
rich mixture gives black but oil burning gives white...
speaking in terms of chemistry lean mixture shudnt give any colour as it means combustion in excess of oxygen so even if too less fuel is given the air is there to completely burn that small amount giving no coloured by productPulsar 200NS parts list

That depends on the kind of oil you use.Originally posted by Rakesh.M View PostGuys.. At what interval should I change the engine oil/???
I'm using Catrol semi synthetic..(i guess)
Usually the semi-synthetic and fully-synthetic oil lasts longer than the mineral oil.
If you use mineral oil, you can change the oil after every 2000 Kms.Signals which are timed for 50 Kmph are also timed for 100 Kmph :)
