If the bike is left untouched without being ridden the battery gets drained out. Usually people who ride on highways can extract more life from the battery.
The battery gets charged when its being ridden at a constant speed for few kms. All You need to make sure is You top up the battery with distilled water once in a month.

And regarding the DC conversion I don't have any idea.

      • Hi Guys,

Coming to this thread after a long time. I had an accident on Friday last week and though by the grace of the Almighty God I escaped with only minor scratches and a Muscle Pull on my left shoulder, My bike is severely damaged at the front. The front Forks and the handle bar are bent slightly and headlight and the fairing is completely damaged and need replacement.

My mechanic says that the forks and the handle bar bends can be corrected accurately (done on some hydraulic machine) but I need to replace the headlight assembly and the fairing. I inquired with the local Yamaha service centers at Chennai (Paras and Ambal Yamaha) about the headlight assembly and the fairing and they are saying that the items are out of stock and it will take more than a month to get them from factory.

Now things to do to get the bike running are
        - Get the bends on the fork and the handle bar corrected through my mechanic.
        - Make do with a normal round headlight till the Glady's headlight stock is available.

Please advise whether a normal round headlight will fit my Gladiator.

        Thank You.

        Regards,

Since Gladiator is not a very popular bike these days, it's possible that the spare availability for Gladi has taken a hit across the country. However, I would suggest you check with other Yamaha dealers in your city for availability. Someone might have the spares available.

Also, SS125's specs are very similar to the Galdiator's so you can try your luck with SS125 spares too.

If nothing works, you can go with the round headlight until you get the actual one from Yamaha. It depends on the mechanic fitting the round headlight how good it looks or how good it fits.

The original handle bars are good enough as far as I'm concerned. Why do you want the split bars anyway? For the looks or for something else?

I find the original bars very comfortable.

If you must change the handle bars, I'm sure thre would be many people around who would have done that to the Gladiator. Search for that in the previous posts.

I normally ride with a pillion.. And i am not a very strong guy.. My height is 5'11. So I believe leaning forward will add stability to the bike.. specially for flicking the bike in the traffic..
I have lowered the bars.. and its helping me to some extent.. but I want to lower it more.. The stock bars cant be lowered further because its sticking to the tank.. I wont be able to lock the bike.
So I thought of using a split bar.

The Gladiator's seat is not suitable for an R15 like stance...if you lower the handle bars, you might develop back ache very quickly while riding long distances and even in city traffic I suppose...

So be aware of what you do with the handle bars...

I'm 5'8" and don't find any issues with the Gladiator's seating position..

                  • Hello Everybody there.....I'm glad to to be joining the Yamaha SS125 group here. I had read a lot of blogs and forums before buying the bike. My decision to buy this bike was all due to good rated reviews on mouthshut, **********.in and here. So, Got my new bike delivered on 2nd september. I hope that i have chosen the right one. Odometer reading -560 km(First service over). Although there are no major problems, the engine seems to get hot easily. I can feel the heat at my legs even after short rides of 8-10 kms. I reported this to the service center during first service. He said that it is common as the bike has not run much and the problem will fade out after 1000-1500 kms.

I have not noticed any major difference in the bike's performance or behavior after first service except that there are lesser vibes now. I would like to know what is done to the bike during first service. On the reciept, they just mentioned a oil change (Gulf oil) which costed 230/-. I doubt whether the servicing is done properly...

Congratulations on your ride, and welcome to the group!

Any new bike will get hot till the engine was worn out to it's operating smoothness. I really don't think that's a reason to worry. You should wait till you complete your 2nd service. If the engine still heats up, you need to check your AFR and other things.

Yamaha SC topping up with Gulf? Wow, that's a news!! They flatly refuse to use anything other than Yamalube!!!

The only major change done in your 1st service is an oil & oilfilter change. All other tasks are minor - such as cleaning/lubrication of all parts and adjustments.

Biking is not about how many Km/h you put on your Speedo. It's about how many miles you put on your Odo. Ride Safe, Ride Long!

                      • Hey, does anyone feel an ache or pain in palms while riding glady. I personally get an ache in palms even during short rides like 2-3 kms. Is it due to uncomfortable handle grips (I currently have the stock ones.)or some other reason. I often remove my hand from the handle and let it rest for 10 seconds or so. If anyone facing the same problem, please suggest some solution...

I have read about rusting problems in some pages of the same thread. Do you suggest me to apply some anti-rust sprays and oils to prevent it. Or has the problem been rectified in the newer version(SS 125).

Thirdly, a lot of friends are recommending to get the bike teflon coated or wax coated. They dont know the difference between the two. So anyone knows? And is it worth spending???

I ride almost 25 Km daily and never had any palm ache problems. My bike is only 6 months old so haven't had any rusting problems till now. If you notice any rusting on your bike then you can go for the anti rust coating.

Never heard of wax coating the bike, although there are many wax polish available in the market which you can use after washing your bike. In my opinion, teflon coating is useless...it comes off in six months or so...

                          • Problem.. shifting from 1st gear to 2nd gear.
after riding for say 10 kms, I face this problem of gear shifting.. The bike tends to get stuck in the neutral.. Does anyone face this problem/??
How can this be rectified??? The 'butter smoothness' that the gears initially had, are almost gone..

                            • Hi All,
I restored my Gadi recently. Changed the block-piston kit, carburrator, valves and other items. It cost me around 15000/- rupees. I find the original handle bar setting perfect, but do experience sticky gear shifts in 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th gears at times. May be someone who owns the Gladi for a long time can throw some light on this issue.
                              Regards,
