    Red Beast !

    Hi Guys,
Kedar here. I got my beast on 7/12 and have clocked about 1100 KM as of today !

I have a RED beauty with few cosmetic changes done over last 1 month
-Changed Pilot lamps to Blue LEDs.
    -Got a Mobile charger fitted.
-Headlamp rim hood (Is there a better word for it? )
-A bronze insignia of cross swords with eagle \m/
    -IND/HSRP registration plates.
-Signature redditch grapic sticker on the tank (Classic has it on stock model!)
-Change the rim at the end of the seat to chrome(chennai!).

    Okay, about the experience:

RE is Addiction! Believe I will take rides for no reason, as I just want to ride my beast! Haven't taken a long ride yet, probably will do after running in.

Overall nothing has been wrong for last almost one and a half month. The power has gradually increased over the time.

Though I have a problem with false neutral and not so smooth gear shift. Maybe that's cause it's not that long and on top of that my riding style! Lets see if it gets better over a period of time.

I am really sad with thump. Frankly, there is no thump at all. You will get a bit of it if you rev at low speed on higher gears ! That's is bad thing to do!

I also feel that the engine isn't that silent unlike CI ones. It makes a sounds like clatters. Ideally, I would expect only the Dug, Dug sound from the Exhaust and Nothing else?

Well my next move is to get some real good silencer without loosing the performance(it would be icing over the cake if performance increases).

Guys, please do suggest me which is a good exhaust and any pointer to get it done from some good place/mechanic from Bangalore. I kind of didn't like the Goldie. It is just so noisy and no sharp beats. I like strong, hard and distinct beats and not that Goldie noise !

See you then. Happy Riding !
    -Kedar

Advice for uce owners pre 2012

Many of you might be more recent owners of the Electra uce. My bike is about 18 months old now. I noticed that the new uce has received a few fixes/upgrades over the year. The most prominent of these being the bigger, better, air tight resonator box. Reason: older electras have had damaged piston valves because of the faulty resonator box they came with. This is a slide mechanism within the carburettor. And RE has once again done nothing to help the bikes with the defect in the field upgrade. If you are an owner of an older Electra, suggest you ask your RE workshop guy to change it for you.

If I throttle up too fast the engine dies. It feels like something is causing the power to be lost and is dragging down the bike. I have to constantly clutch - accelerate - clutch - accelerate to keep the bike going. This problem has persisted long and the mechanic has tried various things - cleaning the carb, the air-filter, fixing a possible air-lock in the tank's cap, a loose clutch cable etc. But it never went away. I've been riding this way for the last 1000 km. If possible I will upload a video of this behavior so some of you guys can examine and suggest a possible solution. Going to take the bike in for another checkup tomorrow.
        Hi,

Sorry, this reply from me is coming so late on this issue that you are / were facing. Looking at your latest posts, I could not gather whether this is resolved or not.

Anyways, I was facing similar issue for some time. I showed the bike to the dealer here in Pune. This was well within the warranty period. The owner of the dealership himself examined that and told me that this issue occurs due to oil not reaching all the places where it SHOULD reach before you start moving.

Basically he told me to follow the routine as follows -
        1. Start the bike with Choke on (in case of cold climate). and let the choke be on for 1 minute (exactly 1 monute or more, not less)
        2. Switch off the choke (if you have used it earlier) and slowly rev the bike to higher RPMs. Hold it there for 3 - 4 minutes.
        3. Follow the point # 2 above until you hear the regular engine sound. You will actually feel that the engine is smooth. You can experience what I am referring to if you try.
Another thing - The tic tic noise will also be gone when you warm up the engine.

On asking the dealer - why I should rev the engine - He categorically told that UCE is a rev-friendly engine unlike the CI engines.

In summary, you need to warm up the bike for 3 - 4 minutes every time you start from a cold-start (i.e. first start in the morning; starting the bike after 6 - 8 hours of keeping it parked etc).

I have been following this since last 6+ months and have not faced the issue you have faced.

        Hope this helps; Happy thumping!

        Cheers!
        Anand

Are you aware of what all are the upgrades in new model? I own a 2010 STD UCE. I would also like to know what all has undergone upgrade.

            Anandbj,
Thanks for your answers. The problem has been resolved. I posted about it in the HelpMe! section of xBhp. I follow the starting drill everyday and there's hardly cold climate ever in hyderabad

The problem I faced was because of a damaged piston valve and a new valve was installed and it went away. Drove for 4000km more and the problem resurfaced at around 22k. Went to RE and found the new Electras with upgraded Resonator boxes. Asked the dealer, he brought out a complete kit of spares which included a new resonator box, new slide and sealant kit that was refitted on my Electra. No more piston valve damages now.

It is now wide knowledge that Twinsparks sold over a year and a half ago have had this defect. RE has given this "resonator box" upgrade kit free of cost. I haven't heard any public news but if your showroom people are cooperative they will tell you to upgrade your box.

The STD UCE I haven't seen any upgrades for. Please check with your showroom.

              @ all

              Hi guys,

Just popped over here to confirm. The old T'bird has a BS26 CV carb right?
Is it the same one that is on Pulsars and Fieros? Or is there any diff?

              Thanks in advance.
Ride it like you stole it! But buy your own helmet.

During the last service I had told the engineers that I am having issues with mileage. They have changed the resonator box- a field upgrade free of cost (on inquiring they have told me that it is an instruction from HQ). I have yet to check my milage after this but overall the performance seems to have improved.
Also during my last service I had changed my chain sprocket (after clocking 20,000 KM). The reason they told of the wear is improper chain tightening intervals and lack of lubrication.
                - Like humans, every bike is different.

[The first 2k kms try not exceeding 60, after that ride it like you'd ride a jap bike, during the rains be cautious the water doesnt seep in the tank or the ignition system, causes the bike to stutter, keep the open chain lubricated, keep your bike clean as more than the chrome, the painted parts ,especially under the seat are prone to rust.upgrade to a higher wattage bulb, and if like me,ur bike has the beam too high..god help you..coz they could never find any mechanism to pull it down.carry a spare clutch cable if u intend to ride long distances.and most importantly..have fun

Do you have any tips/tricks i can follow to achieve that?

causes the bike to stutter, keep the open chain lubricated, keep your bike clean as more than the chrome, the painted parts ,especially under the seat are prone to rust
Any particular solutions you use to keep the chain lubricated?, how often (in time or Kms) do we lubricate the chain? And i plan to use a coconut oil mixture as a water repellent, have u used it before?

.upgrade to a higher wattage bulb
yes i have requested the showroom guys to upgrade the bulb at the time of delivery of the bike

, and if like me,ur bike has the beam too high..god help you..coz they could never find any mechanism to pull it down.
Thanks alot for this particualr info. I shall make a point to check this out while taking the delivery of that bike.

carry a spare clutch cable if u intend to ride long distances.and most importantly..have fun
Thanks for all the above information that you have provided. Everything precise and necessary.
Also, would you suggest a particular bike helmet that might go well with My Silver Electra. My budget is 3K.

Where do you stay in Bomaby? I'm at Mulund.
