My first ride on the Electra UCE

        Run-in Period

The Electra easily touches the 60-70kmph mark in no time and I actually need to see the odo to confirm I ride well within my limits. Such is the power and the pickup of this bike.
***Run in should be treated carefully by all riders, as this will have a long and a healthy life for your Bulls.

Performance during the initial 500 kms

The factory fitted silencer is a Glasswool long bottled one, but if you want a crisper thump, try using a short bottle silencer or Sans Inc silencer. There are many other silencers like Goldie, short muffled etc, but the above mentioned are preferred widely by Bullet Gurus.

        Quality and Finish

        Power
The Electra is powered by an all aluminium, single cylinder, Unit Construction Twin Spark Engine (UCE), which it shares with its cousins such as the RE Thunderbird, RE Classic 350 and RE Standard Bullet model. The crank produces 19.8 bhp of power and 27nm of torque. The power and pickup is so good to experience. The tech details are always available in RE Website

        Handling of Electra

        Mileage

        Quick Comparison with Classic 350
I have been reading a lot of articles of comparison between an Electra and other RE models espeically Classic 350. Along with my user experience I thought of bit comparing with Classic 350, with no offence to C350. I had ride both the C350 and Electra and I have felt the below points:

Comfort: I felt Electra a bit better than C350, because of the long step seat. In C350, I tend to slip back a bit due to single seat.

Handle Bar: In Electra, you have got an elevated Handle for wider hand strech, while in C350, you have a standard handle. Lookwise, it might go good with C350, but for longer cruise I felt elevated handles would give more comfort as it is in TBTS.

Tyre Size: There is a long debate in tyre size in Electra and C350. Yes, C350 has got wider tyres than Electra and it might be giving a bit better acceleration as well compared to Electra. But RE would have made researches to fit 3.25x19" tyres for Electra and it gives enough comfort for Electra rides. Only thing to make sure is to fit MRF tyres for durability than factory fitted Dunlop Tyres. Luckily mine came with factory fitted MRF tyres for Front and Rear

Modifications:Quality Metal Industries Products - Mudguards)
A chrome head light shade, chrome side stand and a chrome saree guard can add a real retro look to the Electra model, but some feels its too much a chrome.

I didn't see any reason for me to change the silencers eventhough there is not enough thump. As an environmental rider, I feel we should support RE's compliance with pollution norms. Having said that, there are a lot of after market options to change the silencers after a couple of intial services. The popular choices of silencers are Short Bottle and Sans Inc silencers.

Cons: These are actually not Cons, but places where RE could have improved in Electra Models for the price of the Bull we pay.
        • A fuel gauge: as this is a default meter in all vehicles these days. Gone are those days, you open the petrol tank and see the level of petrol. I don't believe this would be a costlier affair for RE to input in all models
        • Rear veiw Mirrors: These are pretty sub-standard quality (not in looks), as they vibrate a lot while on the move and its pretty difficult to see the rear view clearly
        • Front forks and Mudguard: For a heavy vehicle like Electra, RE could have retained the same style of forks and Mudguards as it is in C350 or Standard 350 models, which will give a broader fork hiding the shock absorbers and a thicker mudguard. Current models of Electra have thinner front mudguards.

As I said in the beginning this is not a review but a user experience sharing post. I shall write further after my second service. Thank you all for reading with much patience.

        Thanks
        Harish

Congrats and welcome to the club!
Electra is a great ride be assured. It is a very practical Bullet and can do trips in excess of 700kms at one go without breaking into a sweat. You just need to see that in the breakin period you do not rip her.

I own one..bought it with my first salary and I think I will retain her forever. That's the thing about a Bull.the more time you spent with the bull the more you will love it.

              Nearing 25000!!!

              Hi!
This is the note after changing the piston and the cylinder chamber, chain drive sprocket, battery, rear tire, brake pads and still carrying a burnt electric starter.

To be frank, it is a torrid love affair between me and my silver bullet. Some point of time I have even felt like selling the bike off and get one with lesser maintenance. But somehow the bike has convinced me other wise every time I think of it.

To the first time bull owners, just one line- Respect your machine and it will respect you back.

As claimed by the RE guys, the new UCE engines may be maintenance free but the whole bike itself isn't. Stick to the run in period speeds if you dont want to have burnt piston rings which are characterized by backfires. If you get backfires then notice for recurrence again. Inform the same to ASC and have them open your cylinder block- insist them if they are reluctant by saying that you will pay extra for this.
Also do check your engine oil frequently if you love to rip the bike. Check the oil level when the engine is cold . The new engine doesn't leak oil at all so when you see a drop in oil level and engine oil outside, rush the bike to the ASC since the new engines are not made to run on rich fuel mixture as against the old CI engines where the rich fuel mix to a certain level acts as lubricant. Do not panick if you don't see oil in the oil level after riding for a couple of kilometers. Just tilt the bike from side to side to see the oil splash about on the oil indicator.

Check your chain for slack every 500- 1000 Kms. Clean and lube the chain regularly. Use chain cleaners (Motul) and the recommended oil or a chain lube from Motul.

I had initially issues with the ticking noise from the de-compressor post 3000 Kms (nerarly) after every service. But there are no issues after the ASC guys changed the old air-turbulence box (the chrome box after the air-filter; I guess that is what they are called) for the new ones which comes in CL350 models. Get them changes if your bull still runs on the old steel boxes.

New owners- get your battery checked from the local battery dealer for amps/voltage. Bad batteries will kill your self starter, lights and other electrical.

Use your self starter only on signals and places where you kill the engine temporarily. After a couple of hours on the stand, refrain using the self starter. The self starter that the RE guys have given is just for name sake and will get fried if used constantly.

And more importantly.....listen to your bike...every thump, every creak means something.

              Happy thumping,
              Atul

                Hello,

Hope this thread is active. I bought a Silver Electra about a month ago. Have done about 1000 kms so far and first service was done. Running-in diligently and have had no issues so far except for a scraping noise (probably the rear shock absorber scraping) when I carry a pillion.

Btw, someone scratched my petrol tank right above the Royal Enfield emblem. Multiple scratches and one of which appears deep. What do you guys do for such scratches? Does touch-up work?

EDIT: Went out in search of a paint/tinkering shop. Irrespective of the size/area of the scratch, it would cost me Rs 1500 with a clear coat (for the shine) apparently. Guess I'd wait for a few more scratches & repaint the whole thing/buy a new tank.

                Cheers

Has anyone upgraded their Electra head light to a 60/55 W lamp? In all the posts that I have checked so far, the replies inform to check if the bike has a P43t type of holder to support the halogen 60/55W lamp. How does one get to know which holder type is installed on the Electra bike (July 2012 model)? The manuals and other information on the bike does not have a mention of the type of holder for the head lamp. The bike seriously needs a better headlight since the stock 35W is inadequate for night riding. Appreciate if any one can provide a means/information to check the holder type on the Bullet Electra.

                            New Royal Enfield Electra

                            Hi Guys,

Sold off my restored 1978 CI 350 last January and had booked a RE Electra UCE. Finally after 2 1/2 months of waiting, she is here. Picked up the bike from Siliguri Distributors, Siliguri.
Mods include front ribbed tyre changed to knobby ceat secura ( same as rear tyre ). Am planning to keep this bike and mod it to a trials bike slowly. Got rubber gators for the front shocks as well.
Took delivery after a through PDI and filled her with 9 liters of petrol and rode her 250 kms, first to my hometown of kalimpong ( 70 Km) , next day to place of my work, Jaigaon, ( 175 km) .
this was the first time riding a UCE Bullet and it felt quite good, good power, comfortable suspension and i still have some petrol in the tank. Let me see when it hits reserve.
Am waitng for the Temp Reg paper to come through before i can take her out for a good spin. Right now she's parked at home.

I have collected a few items , a vintage taillight and a goldstar muffler. Will need some mods to fit them , but no problem.

Here are a few pictures i took on the way.

                              Hi Again Guys,
Completed nearly 33000 Kms on the bike. Last week had been on a 5 day 2200 Kms across south India. I would like to whip the ass of any guy who says that the older engine is a gem etc etc. The new one is better and I have got a quote for it- ride it on 90-100 as much as you like, but you better stop because otherwise you will end up with blistered ass.
Well maintained bike can go on long distances without any issues. Maintain it badly and you will have to suffer (see my older posts).
Tip: Do not put too bassy silencer to increase the sound because it overheats the engine as well which can result in burned piston rings/oil seals and damaged piston.

                                Hi guys,
Im gonna get a electra in a week.
Can some one tell me if the 2013 electra comes with a OEM dual horn ??
If not i'd have to change it right away on delivery.
And what about the tyre options that we have got ??
are the OEM ones decent enough in grip?
                                Or shud I change to 3.5 ?

sent from my Galaxy Note 2
