yes i know smoke should not come of a 4s engine, just curious as i saw two fzs emitting smokeOriginally posted by MavericK46 View Post^^Raptor : A 4 stroke engine that spews white smoke from the exhaust is suffering from a case of 'Piston Ring blowiasis"
Read up on the need for breaking-in a new engine and you'll know the reason behind the agarbatti effect !

P.S: Can happen in any bike, let alone an FZ16.
Cheers !

well its only sometimes that i feel this happens... esp when i soft shift down from the 2nd ( as in dont really push the gear pedal v hard... ) anyway.. its ok... there arent many occasions when i might need to shift from 2nd to 1st without stopping properly.Originally posted by anirudh fz1 View Postdude looks like ur bike has some major gearbox issues ,i can shift easily to 1st without nuetral at all.
i am shocked 2 hear abt the accident crash due to gears ,u shd give bike back 2 showroom.
my problem i have faced in other bikes too,
before u stop u shd change the gears,
P.S - CHECK CLUTCH FREEPLAY ADJ

and it wasnt an accident.. i just fell n kinda leaned on a gate.. no harm done to the bike.. so its cool.
and adjusted the freeplay on the 2nd day of purchase..
btw, 1st service done.. it really rides like a dream
.. no significant vibes in the higher ranges also
its smooth enough. i guess the problem was coz below 55 kmph u cant even feel the engine running..
reached 90 kmph so far.. ran out of road on that occasion.. its just been 2 days since the service.. will wait for 1500 kms to rip it on a more regular basis..

i guess the proper way of shifting gears is dis engaging clutch and engaging it again. Gear shift seem fine to me.Originally posted by s_and_m View Postwell its only sometimes that i feel this happens... esp when i soft shift down from the 2nd ( as in dont really push the gear pedal v hard... ) anyway.. its ok... there arent many occasions when i might need to shift from 2nd to 1st without stopping properly.

hi
I did my third service last week, there is a lot of mechanical clattering from the rear sprocket when i am in 4,5th gear and rpm is less than 2800 and i m pulling up even a very slight slope or giving a lil hard throttle; thats above the point where engine gets shaky (at lower end). What can be the possible cause??? and remedies??
somewhere around 2500 rpm and below the engine shakes a lot, before audible knocking... i normally drive 3000+ but this thing bugs me...Kingdom FAR FAR away is where I wanna be...
But I can't find a road headed that way.

Smoking exhaust! Foot rest!

Well i found this happens occassionally when you start the engine and accelerate it at around 6000+ rpm on cold weather condition or when the engine was left cold initially before accelerating. When the engine is not yet heated and you increase the rpm instantly you will find those White Smoke forcing out of the exhaust.... but dont know if you guys over there in the plains experience this.
Regarding Engine Oils:
I guess we need to check the manual....
if not mistaken the manual stated that the engine oil needs to be changed every 3000kms, but this marking also depends on your riding condition. If you are playing a lot with your FZ, meaning wheeling, stoppies, etc etc, you might need to change it earlier than this reading....
Regarding Tyres:
Guys, do you also notice that the tyres makes a lot of noise, especially while riding on a little rough roads?
Regarding Foot Rest:
One more thing, if you are learning stunts, better get some extra Foot Rest in hand....hehhehe
... These foot rest for fZsss (especially the front ones) are very fragile.... a little skid and fall and slide and your foot rest is boom!
As a replacement for the front foot rest, get the rear foot rest and fix it to the front, and it will seldom break because in the rear foot rest there are no springs attached thereby offering very less resistance to the impact of the fall/skid/slide. Though it might bend a bit as compared to the original front foot rest but the difference while riding is negligible.

never accelerate the bike immediately after a cold start. let it idle at least for 30 seconds, so the engine reaches the operating temp and the engine oil reaches all the parts in the engine. this rule applies for all the bikesBiker of the Year -2013

^^^ + (n+1) on that.
Why on the earth do you need to revv any engine to such high RPM's after a cold a start?
Wait for the engine to warm up before you revv.
Yes, this doesn't address the problem you have mentioned but at least give your engine some extra life by not revving when cold.
if not mistaken the manual stated that the engine oil needs to be changed every 3000kms, but this marking also depends on your riding condition. If you are playing a lot with your FZ, meaning wheeling, stoppies, etc etc, you might need to change it earlier than this reading....
If your riding conditions are very dusty and very hot or if you do high speed touring for hours together without a stop, then there is a chance that your engine oil compounds break and the oil gets spoiled or gets contaminated earlier than the given schedule... to know the exact details, keep checking your engine oil health & level at least every week and before and after every long ride.

well it definitely wasnt a cold engine because i had stopped behind the smoking fz in a traffic jam.On top of all that guy was revving the bike unnecessarilyOriginally posted by Devilboy View PostWell i found this happens occassionally when you start the engine and accelerate it at around 6000+ rpm on cold weather condition or when the engine was left cold initially before accelerating. @hydbiker-verymuch true.I have to change my unicorn's engine oil(currently using petronas full syn)Not using for more than 3000km as my running ranges between 50-80km per day with some part in dusty conditions and some part in traffic. After 3000km,engine gets rough and gears start getting hard.Last edited by velociraptor13; 04-20-2009, 09:24 PM.Socha Toh Locha.

@ Frank, @ Hydbiker, @ velociraptor13
Thanks for the advice buddies, ya know that i should not accelerate the bike too much especially on a cold engine....
.......
... but this cant be kept in mind when one would fall in an emergency.
...
it was actually a rainy day. After travelling about 30kms through the drizzling weather, we stopped for about 15 mins outside a muddy field...later along with some friends i decided to get the bike through the muddy and grassy field for some fun...but then got stuck on a very small uphill which was required of me to accelerate so as to climb the small uphill of about a foot high.....well the girp of fz tyres offer negligible friction on that soft muddy ground.... so i had to do so with the rev at that moment leaving the tyres in a burntout
.... it was then that i noticed some smokes coming out of the exhaust....
....but didn't manage and had to take another route......lol
Anyways it was fun performing stunts on a muddy and wet grass ground...
Doing a 360 degree was much easier, you try it out...hehhehe.... in fact you will manage countless number of rounds....lol...
... maybe the muddy wet grass and ground is the best place to improve your balance.....hahhahhahahaaaa....
@ velociraptor13: Does your bike leaves out a lot of smoke even if you dont rev unnecessarily?

its running smooth...
gear shift problems are rectified..
I still feel that my bike lacks power at higher rpms sometimes..i mean i guess gears are not getting engaged properly..engine seems it has to work really hard to get goin at high rpms...i m worried .. i will sell this bike away if it wont run fast n smooth..-----------------MH-04-DZ2022--------------
