Bro I was worried about the overheating effects ....
How much lean is too lean.
In which direction should the screw be rotated to make it lean?
What is the impact on the pickup?
my bike has gone 5800 km +... M looking forward to playing with a few settings now as the YIMS guys here are not willing to touch the carb.

turning the screw to right makes it lean and turn to left makes it rich..
rich mixture does not overheat the engine but consumes more fuel(more of unburnt fuel..).. making it lean overheates the engine (bad for engine)..
      sometimes lower pickup good mileage..

here is some article which may help you...

you are wrong dude.........turning the pilot air screw clockwise (RIGHT) makes it RICH and anticlockwise (LEFT) makes it LEAN

@ Braveheart..the actual procedure to play with the air fuel mixture is, first tighten the screw (dont use force. do it until it stops rotating!) the loosen it one and half turns. this is the right way and its a medium setting, wherein you can get some extra kpl depending on your driving style. you can play with it more by loosening another turn, but the engine will suffer with very low pickup + overheating, resulting in permanent damage.(anyway this mod should be done after 5000 KM only)

IMO, we should not see the FZ as a mileage machine, the engine is designed to deliver low and mid-range torque. so just forget about the mileage thing and start playing with it around the city

what i have said is true for the pulsar and i have experienced it myself...
i have no idea about the fz, it may be the other way...
AFAIK tighten the screw to the end.. that is the rich mixture.. keep unscrewing to the other side which makes the mixture lean..
->keep the rpm to around 2000 and then tighten the screw or else engine switches off..
->usually the exact turns will be within 2 turns to 2.5 turns to get the good mixture
            hope it helps..

              • Hi every1..

I recently bought an FZ16 and have so far done 840 odd kms on it. Since it is still in its run-in I dont take take it beyond 5k rpm, and keep the speed arnd 55.

It feels like the bike tops out at that speed and starts vibrating after 57 kmph. It takes a real effort on the part of the bike to get beyond 60-65 (I have taken it to 73 max so far, just for a few seconds). Did any of the other owners feel like that? Like it maybe lacks another gear? Or will it open up more after the running-in period is over?

                    • Run in misconceptions.....

                      Hi S_and_m,

Hey bro,,,why are still stoping ur bike from going above 5000 rpm....

the manual clearly says the do not have prolonged use above 6000 rpm after 5ookm till 1000km ......

and wid 6000rpm in 5th cog u can easly reach 75-80 kmph.....

just try it dude...and dont underuse ur engine....

I had the same probs but after second service i never felt my engine misfiring or vibrating..., now its really smoothened out, maybe the engine oil gets thinned...

Does it feel like vibrations or like the piston is scratching against the cylinder walls? I too have the same problem, but i have also noted that these vibrations are only felt when i am riding alone, when i have a pillion, the vibes are dampened...one of my friend told me all FZ`s feel the same way at that speed.

In fact i believe that all bikes have a particular engine speed range in which the vibrations are maximun...my classic CBZ vibrates a lot at 5K RPM, above that the vibrations are very fine.

                              its common to all FZ's,
the 60-65 kmph or 5k-6.5k rpm range is its powerband,
so it gives vibes on some speeds like 60 and 80,(on my FZ)
                              don't worry about that.

                              • Around 5k is the point most Indian bikes tend to vibrate a lot.Even my bike (RTR) vibes quite a bit at that RPM. Same goes for the FZ.
