Help needed from people who have replaced engine parts.

My Unicorn's Engine Head is leaking oil. The screw thread is worn out and currently only one screw is holding the engine head to the engine.

The part marked with red needs to be replaced or re-thread needs to be done.

The part marked with brown is where the oil is leaking from. Click image for larger version

Don't worry take it to asc. They will open the head and will send it to lathe and will insert a sleeve and fix the bolt. Not a serious issue. No part replacement is needed. It will just cost you less than 500 rs. Also while sending it to lathe ask them to insert sleeve for the other bolt also so that it won't create any problems in future. But first you should try to wrap some aluminium foil paper around the bolt threads and tight gently it may work. I am also running with this on my xtreme.

i compared with another unicorn which had run of 20000 kms up and it was smooth till 5k to 6k rpm
infact he only told me your bike does give vibes and later on i tried his bike and i could confirm that my bike vibrates at 5 to 6 k rpms
my unicorn has run just 7000 kms
            is it the cause ?

            • Unicorn Engine sound problem and need best mechanic for my honda unicorn

              Hi,

I am the owner of Honda Unicorn Grad prix edition (Year 2007). As you all know Honda Unicorn is known for Smooth engine. Engine and firing sounds very low.
However my unicorn started making sound like dhac dhac. something like Spender or Passion. This sound is annoying me. I have asked few mechanics and they said that it is due to carbon in piston if you want engine sounds like previous one then you have to change the pistons.

Guys please tell me do i really need to change the piston or i need good mechanics who handle my unicorn very well and do the servicing well. Please suggest me good mechanic who have best knowledge of Unicorn. I stay in South Mumbai.

              Awaiting for your responses.

              Thanks.

Adjust tappets to company recomended specs using feeler gauge.

After trying EURO GOLD SPRAY for shining bike
i tried this and must say though cream works it requires good amount of cream as well as polishing with sponge
                  so just going with spray

edit : The cream is superb just like teflon after applying cream the surface looks dirty but just wipe with soft cloth and see magic
beleive me theres nothing like teflon its just these creams and they polish is with rotor which acts as soft cloth
moreover after applying cream it felt like colour is as good as new

                    Hi everyone,

I have a 2005 Honda Unicorn, My bike has run 45k kms so far and is giving me a lot of problems. Does anyone know a reliable and skilled local Honda mechanic in Hyderabad? I live near Banjara Hills. I am not interested in going to the Authorized service centers because in my experience, they do more harm than good. Thanks

The bike was riding well for two weeks till I filled air in a petrol bunk. The suspension got bad and I started to get neck pain. I serviced the bike, again the problem disappeared till I filled air next time. I went to the asc this time to fill air 25 in the front and 29 in the rear, still of no use. They also changed the setting to soft, after which I got back pain too. Pls help me guys should I change anything.will buying a new suspension help? Can you pls help me to find the root cause of this issue.
I know i am replying quite late here. however, i could not resist from replying this because, i too had the same issue when i purchased my first bike

Do you use the same old helmet or have you purchased new helmet recently?
Is the new helmet (In case you purchased new) heavier than old one?

New heavy helmet may be one cause. Assuming the helmet is old one which you had used earlier(With same weight) , then, the stiff suspension may be causing this. try changing the helmet to a lighter one. Finally it is relative to how heavy the helmet is versus how stiff the suspensions are

                      regards

Just asking out of curiosity - Is there anyone who has taken the good old Unicorn/CBZ engine upto 1,00,000 kms without a rebore/cylinder head replacement (proper regular services)? I only know people who have done the same for Fieros, splendors and GS150R. If no, would the likely cause be absence of a dedicated paper oil filter/shift to 10W-30 oil by Honda? Anyway most people sell off their bikes at 60-70 kms on odometer.

Hi, Thanks for your reply. Yes there was some discomfort due to the helmet also, which i was using for the last three years. It was a bigger one and used to jump and fall on my neck bone. I got it changed with a new studds 3g ninja helmet and the pain slightly subsidised but not completely. But according to the advise in the thread, i got the padding up done in my front seat to provide the extra cushion, which solved my issue to about 90 percent. Some niggles are still there which are fine to live with. Thanks again.

                              Hi,

Sorry for not posting updates on my issues with my bike. So the suspension problem got sorted out by putting extra padding. On the engine noise, as I said earlier, things were very smooth before i filled Shell AX7 from the Shell petrol pump, but after that, the engine noise became high- for a slight rise in throttle it would give big noise/strain in the engine. i have uploaded the video with the engine noise also(https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zne8pzSCz9Q).

I showed it to the Honda showroom, they said the work to be done in the cylinder head, ie some valve would be bent and it should be straigthened by lathing. After doing this, engine noise has got lesser but somehow still the bike is not as smooth as it used to be before putting the shell oil. But the ride is not very irritating, somehow manageable but it is rough. the linear exhaust note, which i used to get is not present due to some strain in the engine.

Not sure what to do- but i have started to live with it. One alternative which i have is to buy a new bike. But then i test rode bikes like FZ, Suzuki GS 150 R, Gixxer, Discover 150, but none satisfied me like even my present unicorn. I have simply got addicted to the smoothness of Unicorn and cant bear the roughness in other bikes. I can only think of buying another unicorn may be Unicorn 160 but not immediately, as i will use this for another couple of months and see. Thanks again for all your help
