Guys, i have a doubt with regards to my carb fitted onto my impulse. Firstly, can anyone please tell me whats the model number of the Keihin Carb. I know that it is a 28mm but is it PE or PWK ?
Now lets go on to the issues i am facing. I bought my brand new impulse around a month ago and i have covered 1500 kms since then. Few days back i observed that some amount of fuel was leaking from the lower side of the carb. Showed the same to my mech. He opened the bottom most chamber where the float sits, told me that the gasket is blown ( As the bike was sitting for 3 years ) and that a new gasket is very hard to source. So he put the silicon gasket bond and refit the whole thing and then there were no issues till yesterday.
In the morning, before starting the bike, i saw a pool of fuel underneath the carb. Please note that i switch off the petrol tap whenever the bike is not in use ( Later got to know that the petrol T is busted ). I could see that the fuel was leaking from the overflow pipe outlet whenever the bike was shaken.
Showed the same to my mech again and he said that the needle inside is the culprit and i need to change the carb and put the one from the 200NS. Now i surely know this cannot be such a major concern, so i am planning to open the carb, clean the bottom chamber and put everything back again . I feel that the float is not seated properly.
My friends from the Xbhp delhi also suggested me to do the same.
Now i hope there is nothing seriously wrong with the carb.
Any help or advice would be surely appreciated.

Looks like carb overflow can be due to defective float or float pin,ask him to check both
Thin long forks (not USDs but the conventional ones as used in old dirt bikes) tend to sway and flex a little on offroads especially on hard front braking (less done on offroads but on tarmac) thus these fork braces. Well, though i never felt that but still for the sake of it I had my fabricator made one for me.
Not as aesthetically sound as the JC moto ones but i guess they do job. 100rs max or free it might cost (if one is a little mechanically inclined) its of no use to me as i didn't feel the need of it too much yet. I've heard people unhappy with the front forks and also being too thin and skinny they might happen to sway a little. A little meaty ones had been good. Still a fork brace helps but increases the unsprung weight throwing dynamics a little away. Didn't made me feel either way anything though. Still I had one fabricated. [emoji16]

In the same vein, since you seem to have a bunch of mates who all ride Impulses, have you got any first hand accounts of the JC Moto Fork brace? Looks to me like a lot of money for something that I haven't yet heard any benefits of yet.

Naah, definitely not. Just plonking Himalayan's suspension on Impulse would be a mod done just for sake of modifying and extracting that little extra which in turn might be counterproductive I think.
Given if one does this mod anyway has to consider several aspects considering what the spring indexes and other figures are, which might determine their performance on Impulse which of the stock ones is beautiful. I find no plausible effect which might come out of plonking Himalayan's front forks on Impulse. Also i have a weird fetish towards RE's quality being worst and when that boils down to the front forks on and offroader (probably the most important thing on the same), that would be last thing I'd plonk in !

That's sound advice and I totally get your point about not jeopardizing the very element that is integral and crucial to this bike (loss of money aside).

Its a nice bike. Perfect bike for a Ladakh trip, being a soft tourer as it is. Can't take rough bashing on offroads as the Impulse does also the thumpy engine does no good to an off roader (Himalayan being so). Also the name Himalayan synonymous with touring does no justice when compared to what Adventure Touring really is. Impulse doesn't come close either but is a great VFM bike sadly discontinued but appreciated by handful of dual sport enthusiasts. Himalayan is a nice soft tourer and a great bang for buck. Not to my liking though.

Hoping bikes like these come soon as a boon for dual sport enthusiasts in the midst of all this where all attention has been diverted to the track bikes, sport tourers and commuters.

Who wouldnt love a pure mechanical motorcycle for the sheer joy of riding. I am not a huge fan of epectricals either, but on the same time its always good to go with the flow and adapt with changing times.
True the adv390 will be loaded with features and electronic aids, but I am positive that it'll only add to convinience with pleasure of adv riding.
I have a strong belief that the adv390 will still be more tarmac oriented rather than being a complete offroader, hence keeping the impulse for cheap thrills would suffice. And on long tours etc the 390 will fill all those gaps where impulse isnt suitable. One can easily cruise at 110-120kmph with the 390, higher torque would be helpful almost everywhere. Riding modes for keeping the bike sane, slipper clutch and the list goes on, but I'm sure it'll be that 'finally something' choice for many of us.

Ohh the 390 Adventure would be beast offroads perfectly bridging the low and the high capacity adventure bikes given the riding we do in India. Though I wouldn't opt for it. KTM etc all loaded with electricals and all makes me refrain from getting into such a thing while looking at the simplicity on other hand of bikes like Impulse etc. Easy to mend and a potent off roader. Pretty old school I'd go for Yamaha XTZ Lander 250 or something like that or maybe something like a KLR , just for the sake of simplicity but these talks are bullocks as theres no soon these bikes are coming here.
