Also thread start can use the information from above website if he feels and verifies it is correct.

Also i would like to mention that better stick to stock specifications unless you really need more power.
Whats that link for? Common sense; anything which restricts gas flow robs power.

        • I read somewhere or heard from someone that the 180cc kit will require premium fuel as it increases compression . but 15% gain sounds good. Anyone planning to try the 180cc kit with free flow exhaust and a k&n filter?

          @joeantony : congrats buddy ! ride safe

            • First Impression

I took my impulse delivery yesterday evening from Adyar Motors - chennai. I wanted to fit the knuckle gaurds but it was not in stock . The cleaning / polishing was not so good. They were very indifferent in delivering the vehicle .

There was some plastic sticking on the exhaust right after the engine, melted and stuck. When I asked them to clean, they used a screw driver and made som schratches right in from of my eyes . I could have cleaned it myself better.

I am realizing many of the maintaining / cleaning work is better DIY, as you do it with care, all you need is proper knowledge and instructions an support of xbhp brotherhood .

Following are the +ves from my limited ride about 10km.

              1. Engine is smooth had very quiet.
              2. Brakes are good, though the rear is a drum it worked well.
              3. Riding posture - love it, being 6'1" its fatigue free and you feel like sitting on a couch and riding.
              4. Unique - not much impulses around and its an head turner, loved the attention
              5. Suspension - Comfy but not butter smooth, from forks where bit harder than my liking. You can pass on pot holes with out reducing speed but sharp speed brakers throws you off the seat. Still, the suspensions are the USP of this machine.
              6. Tyres - Very hard, very stubborn on rough and it dictates the terms with the road, when other vehicles needs to obey the road conditions these tyres arrogantly rule the road.
              7. Seat - has a rough mat surface helps your butt be stationary while hard braking , most comfortable seat you will find, an ultimate choice for a tourer.

              -ves

              1. Handle bar / control panel ergonomics - It could have been better, the controls go below the horizontal level of thumb, this is a simple math, still the missed.
              2. Handle bar - Neither a motocross handle nor a commuter, I would have loved a proper, taller motocross handle.
              3. Gear Box - Are Hero ppls SERIOUS about the 2nd gear position, its a mile away from first, and having the low end torque distributed significantly, we are not able to exploit it, it takes ages to shift to 2nd gear. No false nuetrals but some times you are not able to change the gear (both up and down) without revving a bit, hate this.
              4. Side lock - You need to shake the handle to lock it, its not locking if you keep it fully turned.
              5. Tak,Tak sound from front fork assembly if you try to cross smaller speed brakes with out slowing, some nut is loose somewhere, I can feel it.
              6. 150cc engine - This machine will go nuts with a 200+cc engine, which will do justice to its character.
              7. There is some vibe when in slow speed or idling (dissappears in 5-10 seconds by itself), just like a car starts vibe when a/c goes in a compression cycle, wiered, need to check this.
              8. DC electricals - hate this.

              ?s
              1. I would like to attach a utility box in the rear, will this make the vehicle unstable. Also will it look like a pizza delivery boy? Anybody tried it?

              2. The mechanic said not to fill any upgraded fuel ( like speed or xtra premium), just use ordinary petrol. Why such an advice? whats wrong with these?

              3. Should I start the vehicle everyday ?, I will be using my car, other two wheeler, bycycle (atleast i wish ) and impulse in round robin in a week.

              Thanks in advance

I've been hearing all owners complain about this sound, luckily I don't have it on my bike. I did have to readjust the forks in the triple clamp.

For a change the mechanic is right, higher octane does not always mean better. The octane ratio required for a aluminium engine depends on various factors like ignition timing, type of head, compression ratio etc. An engine is designed with a certain octane ratio in mind. With a stock engine stick with normal fuel.

                • Recently had been to a short 350 Kms ride to Modak Sagar Dam and to Vaitarna Lake. and some of its Nearby places, Also did a Small offroading session.

Three bikes went for the ride, Yezdi Model B, Classic 350 and Impulse. The roads were not so good with broken tarmac, bad roads, small village roads, etc.
The Impulse feels at home in those roads where you can maintain good speeds and if you encounter bad roads then stand up on the footpegs and just glide and high speeds. The Yezdi as usual is a Forever Bike and is from the era where there were hardly any good roads. so it faired well but since its suspensions are on the harder side, The rider could not match up to the speeds of impulse. The Classic 350 suffers in the bad roads, Since it has Spring seat, It keeps bouncing well after the bump has gone, and it results in backaches, especially if you have a small backpack along. Its i guess i meant only for highways and smoother tarmac, the rider had decided to get rid of the Spring Seat and put a normal seat.

During offroading session (The location is as seen in the Pictures), the roads were so Slippery with Mud and Muck, grass with slippery Stones and it was a decent very close to the Vaitarna Lake, Also it was Raining.

The Impulse faired fantastic as the tires are well suited to that terrain, The high Ground Clearance helped and the seating Position is brilliant for such excursions, Going down and coming up was smooth with very less effort and came out with flying colours.

The Yezdi had button type tires front and rear (Ceat Secura Sport), which in my opinion are very good tires as i personally use it for long distances, Also in my Mumbai-Kanyakumari-Mumbai 4000kms Trip on my Yezdi....... Yezdi has a Good low end torque and is a very Low rpm bike so it too had no troubles goin down and coming up. it managed well.

The Classic has Tires meant for highways and Are more street oriented so it was uncomfortable to get it down and back up, as the rear tire at many times was spinning in place, this is also because of high torque, and also because of more weight. but it managed after a little strain on the rider.

On the whole it was a Beautiful refreshing ride for all !!!

Things that could be improved in impulse:

                  1) The high end speeds are very less , the most i coould manage was 106 on speedo, i am not more than 54kgs in weight. but i had was a duckback raincoat on me so it was giving wind resistance.

                  2) No protection to Silencer bend pipe and engine from cold water Splashing onto them, So the engine becomes Water Cooled from Aircooled in rains

                  3) Also related to the above point, the water splashed on to the feet from the silencer is boiling hot which actually burns your feet.

                  4) The tak sound from the Front fork Bearing is second nature of the bike.

                  5) at speeds above 70-75 the wind blast is not encouraging, the front fairing visor should be a little more big or may be some extra fitment should be available. I do Mumbai Pune Non stop, quite often on my Bikes and get tired of the wind blast. i hope to find a solution to this for impulse atleast.

                  6) The braking is Sufficient cos if it would have been a little too sharper, offroading would become a disaster.

                  7) headlghts need to be brighter for night riding.

                  8) Seating position is Brilliant and you can use various positions to stay comfortable for longer duration riding.

                  9) Horn is Sufficient.

                  10) the rear view mirrors are good for offroading, but if you are more into highway riding then a little broader mirrors will help.

                  11) Its not very common bike so be sure you carry your levers, though i figures out they are same as Unicorn levers.

                  12) has a novelty factor as its not a very common bike, Still makes the hear turn, I see more KTMs than Impulse on the road. And figured out that Indian consumers need power and Styling more than practical Utility. Also The Seat height is a Turnoff for many as Generally everyone wants to rest both their feet while stopping or standing. But I am 5'4" and i love it, May be because i am used to riding tall and a heavy Bike. Jawa350 Type 638.

                  13) Fuel consumption is not so encouraging above 70-75kmph speeds, It drops drastically, The gearing and the Sticky tires have something to do with this.

                  14) The Chrome is very bad on the bike parts such as Screws, They have already rusted in the First Rains.

Overall A very good Bike meant for its Purpose. and i love it. !!

                          • The bash plate finally made it home . Shaved off around 1mm from the crankcase casting which crops below the frame tubes.

Need to source two more 1" clamps to make it a pukka fixture.
