  • Fuel Economy???

Seriously guys, what kind of fuel economy are you getting.. I am getting less than 30km/lt (in the 29s) when I measure reserve to reserve.. I do ride the bike pretty hard.. But, this kind of poor economy, I am better of driving my diesel car..

Can someone post a poll so we can share details? (I don't know how to)

        • Has anyone checked the gearing figures of Impulse....being an dirt oriented bike the gearing for higher torque figure may be the reason for such mileage figure from a 150cc in my opinion.

          • The Best mileage that i had got on my impulse is 53, that was during Run in period, where i had hardly crossed 4500 RPM, and the worst that i have calculated is somewhere in the range of 41, i dont know if the free flow exhaust will help to make the bike breath better at higher RPM.

Also any idea how much does the Oil filter cost and is it advisable to change the oil filter at 3000 kms ??

Since the monsoons are approaching, what kind of switch protection covers and meter covers are available(If available) ??, what are other alternatives for them ?

Fourth, Has anyone tried this bike for +500kms route and on any mountainous trek. How did the bike and the engine respond. Were there any issues.

                  Thanks....
I did a bangalore-Karwar-bangalore in the last week of Jan 2012 as soon as i bought the bike. It is very comfortable for cruising around and pretty good on the tarmaced mountain twisties. did not get too many offroading stretches, but the few broken tarmac stretches was a delight. my friend on a bullet classic was struggling to keep up on these bad road stretches. the bike and engine were on song...no problems at all

                    • @ All,

                      Hi guys,

Just wanted to know of any pros and cons y'all are facing in regards to the knuckle guards.
Are they light? Are they strong? Are they available readily? Stuff like that. Thanks in advance

                      • Regarding Knuckle Guards,
Its a nice addition, but in traffic when you want to sneak out through tight gaps inbetween cars, the knuckle guards pose a little problem, as it is the handle bar is wide, these make the breadth wider.

Today first time i rode my impulse in rains, and i have a few experiences and questions,
                        1) The engine Actually become Water cooled than Air Cooled !!!!! it generally has water and muck all over.

                        2) the water splashes on to the bend pipe and then splashes down on the feet and its boiling hot most of the times. feet actually burn !!!

                        3) Are the engines built to that quality and standard that even if cold water splashes on burning hot engine and the silencer pipes, nothing will happen to them ??

                        4) the tires dont give that kind of confidence in wet conditions.

Solutions, Suggestions and experiences please !!

                        • Did a tools tube for the Impulse with a 2 inch PVC pipe. End cap on one side and screw type cap on the other side. Removed the stock toolbox and fixed it in that place. It looks like another silencer on the left side.
Total cost worked out to Rs.480.
Rs.230 for the tube and Rs.250 for the clamp.

It's useful to store the tools, tire irons and a tube. Will upload pics tonight.

                          • Hey D-man. Yeah, I was thinking about the same thing. But do you think they'll hold up in case of a fall or protect the hand levers?

                            • Not really, they are plastic and are not metal, unlike the ones that you see on military schimitar bikes , so the will not protect any lever, but I guess up north where the weather and climate is on the colder side, these will protect your palms from freezing at higher speeds. And if you go offroading then they will protect you from occasional brushing from shrubs and branches of trees during trail riding

                              • Ah ok. They are plastic. Didn't know that. I thought they had a metal brace under it (passed one on the street today too) You're right - They won't protect the levers against concrete.

OT: Just googled the scimitar bikes. Impressive!
