i think you are right. i was wearing a water proof quecha shoe. may be something can be done at the crash guard area it may work.

            • whew it seems that all are keen to dress up impulse like a normal bike. the impulse has it unique character some very strong like off roading and some less like commuting.

for me it is my daily bike on week days and terrific off roader for week ends. i don't intend to spoil the basic impulse look with mud flaps hanging here and there.

for me i will enjoy the water on me while riding and being in kerala it is happening almost every week.

                    • Couple of questions

Going thru this thread, it is very clear that the dual-sport/off-road concept is not understood by many ppl in India.
Saree guard?? pillion with salwar?? some mod to avoid water splashing on exp shoes??? main stand??? Phew....
If you guys want a commuter, then buy a sport bike, not the impulse. Period.

Here are my questions for the off-roaders or wanna be off-roaders:

                      1. Was anyone able to find offroad footpegs for the impulse? Is the CRF250/450 or XR footpegs a direct fit?? Stock ones are rubberized and it will slip at the slightest contact wth mud or slush.
I was able to find some good deal on the DRC pegs for $40 but wanted to check before I ordered.

                      2. Shift lever is so short, it will be very tough to shift gears wearing an off-road boots. Is there any after-market longer shift lever that fits this bike??? Anything from the MSR or Two Brothers or IMS or Moose Racing???

                      3. Someone said the bike does not breathe properly after 85-90kmph. Did anyone try a better air-filter n free-flow exhaust combo??

                      4. Heard that there are couple of big-bore kits available in Pune/Delhi which have been tested on the Impulse (nope, am not talking about the Karizma engine mounted n tried in Pune). Any info on that??

                      Any help/info is appreciated.

By that arguement of yours, the concept of sport biking isn't understood by India at large either....here, even litre class bikes coem fitted with saree guards, if you can imagine what crazy woman would want to sit sideways, with not much to hold on to, on bikes capable of 0-100 kmph in ~3 secs.

Dual sports are used as daily commuters in the west or down under as well. Just because you own a dual sport, doesnt mean you need to be prepared to get your shoes and trousers muddy on office commutes too......or sacrifice any practicality for that matter. After all, isnt practicality is the very essence of a dual sport?

serrated metal is there under the rubber footpegs. remove the rubber and it wont slip. or check tourer gear on fb , they are selling off road foot pegs. looks like a direct fit

u can try putting some air filter+exhaust combo to improve that. have seen it on an impulse , but no idea how much performance will improve.

I do have to agree with what 2strokerama said. Practicality is definitely important.
But our gvnt rules to have a Saree guard on all bikes is really stupid.

Are we really bothered about practicality?? We own a RE for crying out loud
Big bore kits is provided by Joel 160cc and 180cc. According to him 160cc will be more reliable and he claims that we don't even have to rejet the carb. We can use a K&N RC-1060 filter plus a FFE and upject the mainjet from 105 to 110 and we are good to go.

On a different note Big bore kits are available for the CRF 150 in the US of A but the price around $500 ( 195cc ) http://www.crfsonly.com/catalog/prod...oducts_id/3104
In the stock condition the bike will hit 90kph easily and comfortably and with 160cc + K&N + FFE + Upjet we should be able to hit/cruise at 100kph.

I will tell you the cost of 160cc Joel's kit in the beach. Okay when are we going to the showroom. ??
