    • How to achieve higher fuel efficiency in hero Impulse

Hello there! My ride is hero impulse which is merely 14 days old and haven't completed the first service as it only done 180 km. I know that bike in run in period gives lesser mileage later after one and two services it improves but i would like to know ways achieve the fullest fuel efficiency without messing with my engine. I'm 6ft 2inch and weigh 90 kg. so my questionnaire are below and if you guys can give me more information and advice that would be most welcome.

      (1) what Tyre pressure is to be maintained? the stock one or higher one as i weigh much and the total load of the bike is pegged at 130 kg. stock rec. are 22 for each tires for single and 29 for rear Tyre with pillion.
      (2) Is tuning good for bike?
      (3) levels of rpm meter in which up-shifts and down-shifts should be done.
      (4) How regularly i should lube and clean my chain as my bike have semi covered chain case. my weekly ride is about 36 km(approx.)
(5)which engine oil to use? mineral, semisynth or fulsynth? What grade?

if i'm forgetting to ask anything related to FE do add it and please share your experiencing with me so that i can become a much better rider myself. Thanks in advance.
OPINIONS ARE LIKE HEADACHES EVERYONE HAS ONE....

Advice is a form of nostalgia.
Dispensing it is a way of fishing the past from the disposal, wiping it off, painting over the ugly parts and recycling it for more than it's worth.

Maintain the tyre pressure mentioned in the owner's manual, 22 for the front and between 22 & 29 at the rear. Tire pressure not only depends on the weight but also the terrain etc. Bear in mind that the higher the pressure, the more your suspension has to bear the shocks.

Your bike comes tuned from the factory, unless you are staying in Leh you would not need to do anything to the carbeuretion.

Regarding the RPM you need to change gears at, that comes down to rider habit & what you want out of your bike. Indian commuters generally upshift early to consume fuel, If you want the best for the bike, upshift just before it makes peak torque, if you want whats best for your pocket, upshift when you feel like without stalling the bike

              • A querry,
I will be going for the third service which will involve an oil change, so wanted to ask, how often should we change the oil filter in our bike, I have done around 3000 kms of riding, and when is air filter cleaning required ?
Also approximately how much does the oil filter cost?

All that info is in your owners manual, I have it here in front of me so maybe you should give it a read .

If you do the majority of your riding in dusty and dry conditions the air filter will require more frequent cleaning than mentioned in the owners manual.

The full pipe was $270 + shipping and customs. Finished installing it but not a permanent installation as the centre mounting hole is off by 15mm, will have to drill another hole. I have mounted the muffler with the grab rail bolt.

The oem pilot is 35 and main 132. Tried a local 42 pilot but it was running too rich, have resorted to just a shim under the needle till I get a set of pilot & mains plus some different needles to experiment with. With the current setup, there is noticeable power increase beyond 4000 rpm. My guess is a different profile needle should do the job.

More than power gains I was looking at cutting down the weight and getting rid of the CAT. I have the big bore kit in mind and this pipe would flow better with the kit. At 137 kg that is one heavy 150cc !

Anything is possible but you will have to use a proper fabricator for the job and not your roadside welder. The spring pivot, the stop & the mounting brackets will all have to be thought of before hand. There is a thick horizontal frame member under the swing arm, which would make a ideal place. Normally the stops go on the exhaust with a normal street bike, you might have to use the pillion foot rest for the impulse, maybe extend a bracket from it.
