Ok. Got the bike serviced today by my mechanic. Im done with the SVC guys. So in the course of the same...he pointed out the air filter's condition...clogged and full of dust as it was...he asked me to change it. Though i didnt as for now....but will do that tomorrow.
Funny how the mannual claims change intervals at 15000kms.

    Weird !

        hey everyone,
just finished 12k on my odometer. Got my bike from service the day when Jayalalitha got convicted, so Chennai was shutting down, fortunately,in the midst of all this confusion i got my bike serviced (more on this later)..So far here is what all i have done on the bike
Engine oil changes at 100km,500km, 3000km ,6000km (HH oils).. shifted to Shell ax ultra FS oil today..
HID white light with relay (night riding is impossible with those lame stick headlights)..
NGK iridium spark plugs and spitfire cable.

Regarding the famous 'tak tak' sound from the handlebar/forks/light/ur face / wherever, my ASC managed to fix it. It always returns a little bit as i near my next service day but gets fixed (tightened? )promptly at service.
My self start dies at about 10k, i procrastinated fixing it till service. Turns out the battery was screwed. Got it replaced under warranty even with the HID modification (thanks to the chaos on saturday). I am wondering if the HID could be the cause.?
NOW LETS TALK ABOUT WHY I AM POSTING THIS...
Guys if you have never tried FS oil on this bike, go right now!!! i mean go! why are you still reading this.. go! rob a bank if you have to..GET FS OIL RIGHT NOW!
My bike has come out of its cocoon..the engine is way way way WAY slicker, shifting is effortless, i had weird vibrations at certain rpms which has almost disappeared.. idling is more stable...
I got the Shell Advance Ultra (Rs.827/-) 10w40...
Now a lot of 'experts' will say this bike is meant to run with 10w30.. Well NO! that is the recommended oil if ur using HH oil which is what it is..
i did a lot of research and it turns out 10w40 is perfect for this engine... and it wouldn't make a difference unless you are in super cold climates..

        TO THE QUESTIONS
I usually don't have my questions answered here so I'm just gonna put it in the end.. just in case
        1. My mech asked me to change the air filter box/element or something at the next service... can i go K&N? i could really use the extra power and with rejetting, that could happen no?
        2. I notice that the spitfire cables connects the spark plug to another cable that then connects somewhere.. shouldn't the spitfire be connected directly to that part?
        3. Free flow exhaust! my mech said that he can make the stock exhaust into a free flowing one..(he suggested that i source an old one).. coz stock exhaust fits perfectly, doesn't cook pillion's thighs, and is well, STOCK.. thoughts anyone?
4.What are the parts i should be looking to change now.. ASC guys seem to think its ok till it break downs..

            1. You could go for K&N air filter IF you are not driving in dusty environment and care more for power rather then mileage. But research other con's and pro's.

            2. I am no expert in spitfire, but my common sense and a bit of engineering background suggests that the spitfire should be connected directly to "that part", however, research more don't just rely on my answer.

            3. I did make once my apache free flow, it did make more noise and seemed more powerful. However, it is not something you do in your garage, as I learned later, there is quite a bit more engineering involved in free flow exhaust then just making it "free flow". There are a lot of articles on the topic - research is the only answer.

            4. I would look into break pads, front ones from unicorn are way better then stock and fit perfectly.

That's all for now, hope that it helps.

Hey man.. thanks for pointing that out.. i will probably buy another pack and keep it handy to top up every 1000-1500 kms.. as long as that is the only ssue.. I'm totally cool with it.... the oil is awesome otherwise..

Okk...the oil strainer is sort if a screen that is on the bottom of the oil pump pickup. It prevents things from getting into the oil pump that may cause a problem like choke or a jam. For ex sludge in your oil pan, that gathers up.

As per the canniest. Dont know what that means. Nevee heard of that thing. Could be the Oil Filter Cannistor....it might be misprinted there. Just Sayin'.

                        1) Air filter box element means the Air Filter itself. And as per K&N yepp it will give you a marginal gain in power. But will eat up your cylinder liner in the long run. Better stick to stock or go for a UNI filter.
                        2) Probably the ignition coil. But thats me get it sorted out by a mech i say.
                        3) You can get a new one fabricated. Or changes to the stock one will be equally good too. Latter is the better I'd say. My mech did an Impulse with a zma's engine with stock exhaust turned to free flow... works beautiful btw !
                        4) Didnt got you !!

Hey thanks man..whats this UNI filter..i don't really give two shites about sound but would like more power...
impulse with zma? I've heard that a bunch of times.. i l probably do that when i need to redo the engine...
yea i m probably gonna change the stock stuff only....

Well you know our vehicle's stock filter as an OEM is a paper type filter. Its made up paper. K&N is made up of cotton gauze. Whereas UNI are made up foam.
UNI are meant for air filtration too but they provide good filtration than K&Ns and are equal in terms of performance.
