Just noticed that the rear shock has no protection from the spray thrown up by the wheel, this would definitely be in the to-do list, maybe a neoprene sleeve.
The crankshaft plug seems to have been hammered tight by the guys at the Hero factory and the recess for the allen key is all out of shape. I am not very confident about how they have assembled the rest of the bike. Sourcing a plug from the Unicorn.
Will have to go through all the fasteners and re-torque them as per the specs for the CRF150F. Since I have got rid of the smog pump, will be shifting the ignition coil under the tank as it it in a very vulnerable position at the moment.
The fork legs were not even in the clamps with one slightly higher than the other, good thing a friend of mine noticed. Have set them right now. Would have caused abnormal brake pad & rotor wear if I didn't rectify it in time.
All in all, a good bike let down by the people who assembled it.Last edited by Gyroerror; 08-05-2012, 09:13 PM.

are you talking about the front forks? and what other things did you noticed abnormal in the bike? what should be the ideal rpm speed for the bike the factory setting is 1400 rpm..Originally posted by Gyroerror View PostJust noticed that the rear shock has no protection from the spray thrown up by the wheel, this would definitely be in the to-do list, maybe a neoprene sleeve.

Yes the front forks. The idle speed mentioned in the manual is the idle speed you should stick to, whatever your mechanic says.Originally posted by mayukh92 View Postare you talking about the front forks? and what other things did you noticed abnormal in the bike? what should be the ideal rpm speed for the bike the factory setting is 1400 rpm..

yup after warming up of the engine the needle settle between 1400 to 1500 levels i guess that is right for it..i prefer the 1.4 k range though the manual says it can be +-100Originally posted by Gyroerror View PostYes the front forks. Booked Green 'Super Motarrad'
Hi,
Today I have made payment for my green super motarrad ... sorry, the hero impulse...
.
It came 81435 on road on adyar hero, chennai. This price tag included 2 year extended warranty, additional personal insurance and teflon coating. around 3k more than what I expected though
.
They told I can take my vehicle in two days if I am ok with the show case piece, I checked it, had some scratches on the grab rails, said I will rather go for a fresh one, I have to now wait for a week
for that. They will call me to check the vehicle before its taken for registration, some time late this week.
Impulse owners : please let me know what are all the things I should be checking at that time other than scratches. Its crime to ride a car alone, so I ride bike :).

Go through the previous posts and you will get a fair idea. Make sure they check the engine oil and when they connect the new battery ask them not to over-tighten the side cover screws.Originally posted by joeantony View PostHi,

The front engine mounts were loose on my bike and another fellows. Also check if the front fork tubes sit evenly on the top triple clamp, mine were uneven.

So far on Impulse
Hello riders of the Impulse
its been two months and about 4000km's since I started to appreciate our road conditions. Lack of tarmac is always inviting. In the past three years I have downgraded from Kawasaki GPX750RR [1986] to RE 350STD[1999] TO Impulse, say downgrade just because of CC .Impulse is an upgrade because I am re -learning riding. Will share some experiences.
- After the first service I did some trail riding for the first time. An experience that i had not experienced before. This two hour ride ended up with the bike on a narrow patch of elevated mud with rocks resulting in few broken air cool fins. The bike stalled during the climb and I screwed on braking lost the front end. The service center mechanic said that broken fins are not a problem as it doesn't affect performance. Clutch lever had to be replaced.
- Rode from Bangalore- Hassan - Belur- Kalasa- Charmadi Ghat -Sakleshpur - Bangalore in thirteen hours covering around 800km's with other two friends riding their Duke200 and Pulsar 150. The route was split with 400km's of long, straight, wide NH and the rest was narrow curvy , patchy, bumpy ghat sections.Duke disappeared from the horizon quickly on NH leaving other two 150cc's going 90 kmph @7000-7500 rpm .I reached 115 on the speedo few times revving at 9000 rpm and over.Once in the ghat sections Impulse was nimble and the road grip was spot on especially with wet patches as it was raining from past two days. After about 40km of twists and turns with a new found confidence it was easy to slip past both Duke and Pulsar and then there was no stopping until a road sign in the middle of the fog said I was riding in the wrong direction for 20km.I felt that the brakes have a mind of their own , sometimes it feels like pressing wet mud,i am used to it now.Climbs were a breeze and no signs of ass pain through out the ride.
Fuel Cost - Rs1500[800kms] with an average of 40 km/lt.
Maintenance Cost till date
1st service - Rs 214 .
Clutch Lever - Rs 60.
Second service - RS 614 [teflon coating - Rs 400]
Right Side switch set - Rs 261[The threading underneath the switch set which connects the acceleration line was gone]
Accessories
Un-practical knuckle guards- Rs75
Re Painting of side scoops, exhaust guard and chain slip guard - Rs800.
I am running the tyre's on nitrogen fill which costed Rs20 initially and Rs10 every top up.
I am taking the bike to Assam from Bangalore as I am working there. North East roads will compliment Impulse very well .
I am planning to work on the bike and do some modification once i complete 5000kms.

@SiDDi
The paint job is stunning, you have shown Hero'walas how to paint the vehicle to make it look killing. Just awesome.
Impulse will be my second bike after 9years of relationship with Victor. One more week, and I will be on my impulse
.

i have done around 4800Km now.. my third service is due 30aug.. i will change my SC this time, not satisfied with noida people.. maybe i will get it done at Himgiri Hero which hosted the impulse meet in May.. better equipped and they do not shy away from putting in effort apparently.. anyways
as of now some points
--riding in the rain is tricky, obviously shoes jeans etc get terribly soiled but engine is not protected at all
--hence many a times engine smells so bad as if something is burning, when mud splashes on the hot engine and evaporated quickly
--rear plastic on which number plate is mounted has started vibrating noisily even at slow speeds, it has become loose
also chain clatter is now really loud, like a un-maintained platina lol, i feel a slight wobble in the rear as well
--the tuck-tuck loud sound from the steering assembly while negotiating bumps has only become more frequent and louder. it is annoying
--indicators had stopped working for about a week or two, now suddenly they have started working fine again
--bike vibes quite a bit even at 3-3.5k rpm before normalising at ~4k.. maybe loose engine mount etc is at play, but there is a loss of torque and pickup i feel,
other than that good part is mileage i am getting 45+kmpl, did 450Km on the last full-to-reserve reading..
--good commuter bike, still makes peoples heads turn. negotiating corners & turns on wet roads feels weird with the high centre of gravity, but i have crossed waterlogged underbridges potholes and pretty much lakes which sadly are created by delhi rains, and impulse doesn't disappoint
