  • Re: RE Continental GT (Cafe Racer)

Finally got tank replaced under warranty after making some mess with the customer care. Paint was chipping from here and there. Manager was helpful in procuring part, but the staff took full day fitting tank despite a 2-hour promise. Even then they fixed the fuel float in wrong direction. I got suspicious after 2 days with meter always showing 2 bars always. Lucky I did not get stranded half way with an empty tank.

Removed and refitted myself. Took no more than 20 mins. The same plus draining/refilling fuel and refitting fuel pump took service guys a whole day

I am still to get parts, which were ordered at 2nd, 3rd, 4th free services and 1st paid service. Bike is now 1 year old and still to get parts. What in the hell kind of parts management is this??

Amazing wastage of spares at the display with a full CGT disassembled and hanged on wall at every RE dealer, but can't procure spare for us. Morons. Even a pair of Pirelli's are hanged over there with owners running on CEAT and some slipper-when-wet tyres. RE gotta look seriously into quality and aftersales.

And here I thought I was the only one to be unfortunate enough to face terrible turn around time for parts of the Continental GT! In my case, RE said they will procure a new front tire for me in 3 - 4 days and it took them 3+ months! Every time I would call they would say 3 - 4 more days. Finally they said they will give it for free as a goodwill measure (Which was a very good gesture from their part). After wasting so much time and getting frustrated about the non availability, I switched to Ceats. I kept writing to customer care every month and finally this month they confirmed that it had arrived.

The icing on the cake was, when I went to collect it, they said its been here for a few weeks and asked if noone called me to collect it

My suggestion, write to customer care with all the details, they will reply by looping in a higher up.

One mail got me the tank though the warranty was over. Think time to shoot another mail. I just need the plastic clips for mounting the bar ends and handle weight, which broke in a spill. Weights I can manage with RTR, but clips, no other way. I gotta steal from their display piece or TD bike it seems or the only way jugaad, cuttign PVC pipes.

Well will be completing a year with the Conti GT in a few days now & will be celebrating it with a ride to Panchgani tomorrow!!!

Over the year I've had mixed emotions with the bike, loving it, oggling at it, hating my decision after the Benelli 300 launch, a then almost selling it off for the Benelli 300, loving all the attention I get from being on the GT to enjoying the way it rides both for pottering around & being a bit quick, to it being a little frisky due to it's weight & being stable due to it's weight , to being bane with it's vibrations & yet then enjoying them as hand massager, from being felt lonely whilst looking for advice due to really low sales to feeling really unique & standing out from the crowd, from being dropped like a bag of stones by the KTMs to being ogled by them , from the back breaking jerks to the sweet sounding thump.... I've really really enjoyed this bike to the core which appealed to my really nerdish love for retro-thingies. From my Pink Floyd to my DE Razor this bike really made me feel like living in the past!!!

          ----consecutive posts auto-merged-----

From the feeling lonely aspect - over the past year I really tried to search info about part-upgrades to this bike and could hardly find any. And as for upgrade parts I couldn't even find details on a decent Local exhaust for the bike for quite some time, yes some did fit regular after-market exhausts on this bike but neither looked or sounded good on the GT.

Anyway for the 1st year upgrades I plan to put a bigger sized cog up front OR a smaller cog in the rear to improve speed, but again cannot find any good info on locally available set of sprockets.

I also plan to put a better looking & lighter weight rear-sets for the bike, since I feel the bike deserves a chrome & more retro looking rear-sets.

Also by the end of the month I plan to give the bike a good 3M treatment.

finally completed the saddle sore 1600 and bun burner 2500 on my royal enfield GT.
Its a awesome feeling to achieve it on royal enfield GT and never been more happy about my bike as it did not give me any sort of trouble apart for the engine mounting bolt got cut and fell apart after a 1900 km but still had to complete the bun burner ride .

I am sure GT is the toughest bike currently in India and on Indian roads.

I guess I broke a Spoke yesterday or maybe some time earlier, today it was noticed by the watchman who washes the bike!! It's a rear spoke & I was in a hurry so still managed to ginigerly drive out to office. I know it's not really recommended but that's the advantage of having spoked wheels.

Anyway my query is, can this spoke be replaced by any standard spoke RE spoke or doe it need special GT spokes , coz I had read that the wheel rims were UK imports, hence not sure if they are using any special or different spoke for the GT. I'll anyway rush into a RE centre on my way back & confirm but issue is to get it repaired by them is a pain as they ask for pre booking of appointment & usually take a whole day even for the smallest of jobs like changing brake-pads!

Anyway What I learnt is I need to start cleaning my bike atleast once a week to know what issues may crop up.

Totally bummed... Went to 2 service station closeby and none have the rear spokes, nit even a single spoke! They have front ones but not the rear. I've been told that cl500 spokes cannot be used? Can anyone confirm this! Coz in bicycles a Slight difference in spoke lengths can always be managed. Anyway I'm guessing no one in Bombay has this, can anyone from. Bangalore or Chennai help me out!

So the advantage that Spoked wheels have over alloys of being easily repairable has been neutralized by RE. Well done!!!
Biking is not about what you have between your legs, its all about how well you use it!!!!!!!

Well.. That apart.. Um riding since 2 days with the broken spoke! And have not felt anything weired. Thats the best advantage of spoked wheels but then not have having spares like spokes is appalling.

If anyone from Chennai is reading...any help will be appreciated.

                              Hi,

Have some myth that needs to cleared by continental GT owners:
                              a. Mileage of the bike is around 15-16 KM/l.
                              b. Vibrations are such that we can't go above 110 KM/hr.
                              c. Heating effect of the engine, to such an extend that one riders jeans burnt.

Please let me know if someone has faces such issues, I am considering continental GT as an option for future buy with TB 500.
