No you are not misunderstanding, rather you are misreading and misquoting.Originally posted by Angurj View PostDid I misunderstand?
This was the original questionI would like to know why we don't go with semi-synthetics.
You asked about FS which stands for Fully Synthetic. My original reply to cbzee was concerning SS oil which stands for Semi-synthetic.Originally posted by Angurj View PostWhy no value in opting for FS?For My Gixxer Related videos: Click HERE

Re: Suzuki Gixxer 155
Alright. I was just asking because i don't know. I was using the idemitsu SS oil from the SVC before. then changed to Shell advance ax 7 SS oil and currently running on it.Originally posted by MotoBlizzard View PostI am not going to lay down the specifics. You can read up on Semi-Synthetics yourself. Also IdemitsuIndia is not a brand I trust since they refused to answer what their SS and FS oil blend contains. I could file for an RTI but I dont need to. There are plenty of other safe and transparent options.
50% of the time, SVCs dont know what they are doing or saying, atleast the Suzuki SVCs that I have gone to, so you shouldnt take everything that they say at face value.
For example they are trained to tell you that ECSTAR R9000 (supposedly FS Oil) will give you best engine protection, smooth ride, more mileage yada yada yada. But they wont tell you that the service life of an FS oil is around 8000kms. They will tell you to get it changed at 4000kms or less irrespective of what oil you are using.

Re: Suzuki Gixxer 155
How is the performance report on the ECSTAR R9000? I noticed that the bottle is of a different colour than the one available in international markets. The Indian made one is black however the one available in the international markets is grey in colour. Japanese markets have a tin canister for the oil. Is the Indian made Idemitsu ECSTAR reliable for my Gixxer? Also, the SVC is recommending to go fully synthetic from the first service itself. My bike is about to touch 1000 kms. I had initially planned to use semi-synthetic for the first 5-6k kms. But the SVC is pushing for fully synthetic. Is it a good idea?Originally posted by MotoBlizzard View PostI am not going to lay down the specifics. You can read up on Semi-Synthetics yourself. Re: Suzuki Gixxer 155
R9000 is good at its price. Don't go for FS oil currently, I would suggest you to fill mineral oil by motul for Suzuki or R5000 as your bike is in break in period. Service center would obviously suggest that as their main job is marketing.Originally posted by papa_suzie View PostHow is the performance report on the ECSTAR R9000? Like I mentioned before, 50% of the time, SVC people dont know what they doing. They just follow the instructions like a movie script laid upon them by higher ups.Originally posted by papa_suzie View PostHow is the performance report on the ECSTAR R9000? It is a well known fact in the motorcycling community that you use Mineral oil until atleast 4000kms.
R9000 made by idemitsu for Gixxer and Intruder in India, might have different specs compared to the international variants.
Personally like I said before, Idemitsu refused to clarify my query regarding their oils and as such I dont recommend their products. As far as R9000 is concerned, you are not gonna feel any difference in performance. Surely it might be beneficial at a molecular level but that is IF it IS actually a 100% synthetic oil.
My recommendation is to stick with ECSTAR R5000 which is made by Atlantic Lubricants, ones that make Motul products in India.
Later on during your 3rd service, if you so desire you can switch to R9000 and increase your oil change interval to ~6000kms/6months. Dont ask SVC about this, they will tell you a scripted response which is to change at 4000kms.
I was the first person to use the R9000 back in November 2017 when they first launched it. I got the oil changed after ~6500kms because right around this mark is where the engine starts feeling a little sluggish which was adequately represented by the color of the oil when it was drained. I expected this so called Fully Synthetic oil to hit 7000-7500kms without a sweat but unfortunately it dint happen. For My Gixxer Related videos: Click HERE

Re: Suzuki Gixxer 155
R5000 is actually a good idea for the first couple thousand kilometres. However the SVC i visited did not have the R5000. They had loads of R9000 bottles stocked up but refused to comment on why the R5000 was not there. Is this oil still available in the Indian market? I checked the Global Suzuki website. Even there they have just listed the R9000 for the Indian market.Originally posted by MotoBlizzard View PostLike I mentioned before, 50% of the time, SVC people dont know what they doing. Initially i had planned my oil change intervals as:
1. Drain out factory fitted oil and use Motul 3100 at 1000 kms on ODO. Use for 2000 kms. (So effectively 3000 kms on mineral based in total)
2. Switch to Motul 5100 at 3000 kms on ODO. Use for 3000 kms.
3. Re-pour Motul 5100 at 6000 kms on ODO and use for another 3000 kms. (6000 kms of semi-synthetic in total)
4. Switch to Motul 7100 at 9000 kms on ODO and stick to fully-synthetic since then with 5000-6000 kilometres drain intervals.
The SVC guy said that I am going to void my warranty by doing that. So since then i planned to stick to ECSTAR. I have the 5 year extended warranty cover as i have heard horror stories regarding the gixxer engine oil leak and i dont want to void the warranty in anyway.

Re: Suzuki Gixxer 155
Is R5000 readily available with the SVC? The Pune SVC i had visited did not have it. They just had loads of R9000s which they were trying to push. However, i had just gone to get my idling setting checked on my carb and not an oil change(I just completed 800 kms). It felt really strange that they were insisting to go fully synthetic right from the first service.Originally posted by kuulbhaskar View PostR9000 is good at its price. Re: Suzuki Gixxer 155
R5000 is listed on Suzuki's website here. Your SVC should have it in Stock otherwise send a complaint to Suzuki via their website.Originally posted by papa_suzie View PostR5000 is actually a good idea for the first couple thousand kilometres.

Your plan is good, except 5100 is unnecessary. Theres no point in using an SS. You can go directly from Mineral to FS. Besides 5100 does not come in 10w40 iirc
There are many ways to dupe the SVC regarding engine oil. Not gonna lay it out, you can figure it out yourself. But it helps having a good rapport with your SVC.
The warranty stuff is a grey area, but like I said you can dupe them but it will require some DIY or help from local mechanic.
The engine oil leak is not a horror story its just a irritating one. It doesnt really effect anything. A video will be coming up soon on that matter. For My Gixxer Related videos: Click HERE

Is the engine oil leak a common story with all gixxers? Is there a work around to avoid it? Do we know what causes this?Originally posted by MotoBlizzard View PostR5000 is listed on Suzuki's website here. Your SVC should have it in Stock otherwise send a complaint to Suzuki via their website.

Won't they find (atleast get suspicious) when finding the nth service coupon is not filled and both the days and kms are exceeded for that particular service period?Originally posted by MotoBlizzard View PostThere are many ways to dupe the SVC regarding engine oil.
