I don't why but these vary with different manufacturers, I was using Suzuki recommended Motul 10-40W bike was doing exceptionally good. This time service center closed and in Ludhiana instead they started Yamaha service center but officially doing service of Gixxer till new service center opens, they didn't have Motul so they put Yamaha 10-40w oil of Yamaha (it was expensive 340 instead of 270 of Motul) i thought it is going to be same or better but it turned out to be worst. But takes time to pick up and maximum speed is 103 from 112 earlier. Also bike takes time to get it's actual engine sound after starting.

So always better to use same engine oil as recommended for manufacturer. I am so confused now that i am thinking to replace it from Motul (only 30-40 kms run after oil change).

Manufacturer's engineers tests the engine extensively to find the correct oil grades and types suitable for it . So for normal uses their recommended oil grade & type is best for the bike . Even if you have to change the oil grade or type owing to unusual usage conditions , the recommendation serves as the baseline for your choice .

Yes , sometimes I have seen same grade oil behaving differently in my bike also . I have no logical explanation for it . Maybe because of loose standards and regulations for motor oil in our country . Maybe the oils have been classified by different standards , like say one of them is JASO certified and the other is not really JASO . But anyway the difference should be minor and no cause for concern . Keep running your current oil for normal duration . Yamalubes are very good oils , if not one of the best in our market . It should get okay in couple of 100km of usage . Also after starting in the morning , let the engine idle for few minutes so the oil gets warm and circulating well .

Guys i own a gixxer sf
                Need suggestion from the tourers
Been involved in some sort of trips activity
The bike is performing is well enough for 70-90 kmph cruising speed throughout the highways.
Recently did a 160 km ride
(i know its a puny number not worthy of being trip but none the less someone has to start somewhere right?)
While returning i discovered somesort of rattling noise is coming from the engine
I stood by the svc while returning and they told the timing chain and the adjuster is on their last threads
But the mechanic adjacent to my house told me nothing is wrong with the engine and the sound is coming from the exhaust
Im in a dilemma what to do?
I'll try to simplify the problems

1.ratting noise after driving some 50-60 km
2.after cold start it seems someone is dragging your bike from the rear end
It goes away after 2-3 km

Can anyone help me with the problems?
Others are telling me its nothing major and it can be rectified on the next service but i am too much skeptical about my bike
And yes my bike is over a year old and i have done all the services and runned in my bike according to the norms
Now running on the idemitsu ss oil and its just 500km old

It would be helpful if someone guides me

And moreover i have a 400 km trip next month

Would someone please tell me how much time can i cruise at a time at 70-80 without killing the bike before i take a break?or what should be ample time to take a break ?
I know its a silly question but I'm new to this genre and couldn't find anywhere else other than xbhp to ask the questions

There is nothing to worry the sound is from exhaust after 70-80 kmh hope you are using motul engine oil.
Yes you can cruise @70-80 kmh easily i go @75-85 kmh with pillion on long ride. Going for a long ride of 700 kms to dalhousie this weekend. You can always cruise @80% of your bikes max speed all day and ours is 110-112 kmh so nothing to worry.

Will it help me for claiming warranty although I do not have any problems till now.

Nope, it doesn't work that way. My guess is that they are going to nullify further free/paid services.

I was unable to take my bike for service during the Chennai floods. The delay was close to 2 months, svc did not accept to service my bike. I had to speak to supervisor/manager and other folks to compromise, later they accepted.

                          Good luck!

They will ask for the bill receipt of all service done. If u tell u missed that also, they have track in their database.
Only workshop manager will able to help you incase of warranty claim.

I don't think it would help as service records are maintained at service center too, you don't have any problem in initial phase so there is hardly any chance to see problem in near future (except in case of any accident which is not covered under warranty).

They will always accept your free service coupon but you need argue very hard, because it's not their loss it's Suzuki's loos and their equal gain. So request humbly first and then argue wisely (like i was and bike was standing couldn't get time, i was on long drive and couldn't get time etc).
