• Re: KTM RC 390 Ownership Experience

Reading what all is written above, I don't want to say if RC will or not get a slipper clutch but just that - if something doesn't happen usually, doesn't mean it won't. Business is an art now and there are no rules to follow, companies go over and beyond boundaries taking high risks to make a mark in the industry.
Just because you haven't seen it doesnt mean its impossible...expect the unexpected.

Yippee for slipper clutch being able to fit on the older models!!! Juz checked the RC8 antihoping slipper clutch but why is it written that it may not be road legal to use it??

R-series : yes I also thinks same. Bajaj can take that risk to make its position more stronger in market

Even the AKRA exhaust is not road legal in India. ARAI clearance is not there. I guess the RC8 slipper clutch is strictly race performance and not for city use. But it is plug and play for sure.

I do not understand why would a company want to spend extra money on a product that is selling like hot cakes. I mean look at the bookings for the RC. People here are on a 2 month waiting period. Simple logic is to fulfill all the demand, let the production and demand graph stabilize and then think about the upgrades. Something that the D390 qualifies for.

With the RC being introduced, the D390 is facing competition. It makes more sense to introduce a slipper clutch on the D390 (that too after announcements and marketing). Bajaj is already pushing D390 to dealers. So if a dealers orders 10 RC390s. He might as well get 4 RC390s, 3 D390s and 3 RC200s.

Enough of marketing and management gyan, my only humble request is - Do not downshift like mad and hope that a slipper clutch is going to help you until and unless BAJAJ gives you in writing on the bike manual that you received.
There is no better therapy than riding a bike down a straight road at full throttle with the sound of the engine for company.

1. Bajaj is still grappling to produce vehicles that meets the demands. There is a huge backlog of bookings that they have to clear. With some knowledge of manufacturing that I have, you do .................................................S ource : Discussed with some of my friends in Sales and Production for Automobiles
P.S: Do not downshift like crazy hoping that there is a slipper clutch. Rest assured Bajaj will tell you long before they put the Slipper clutch on the bikes.
Man, you should really be sorry for crashing the sky down on me. If only there was a "Dislike" button.
RC with slipper clutch had solved all my problems of deciding what to buy. The only question remaining was 'When to buy?' but then you had to come with all the 'gyan' and wake me from my dreams and many other's too, I am sure. I know nothing is official but I was enjoying Ivin posts and loving whatever he had to write. I didn't even care if they were actually true but I was simply happy for the fact that someone's atleast writing what I so desperately wanted to read. I was in a dreamland, until you came of course
Now don't get me wrong. I pretty much agree to you views though I would really pray hard that they don't come true. And I am a fan of Ivin, keep it coming bro. I am pretty sure that a person working within the company knows better.

Lol I suspect a lot of vehicles are not road legal in India due to the poor condition their owners keep them in! The government creates such a fuss about imported parts and cars and bikes as it obviously generates revenue for them legally and in other not so ethical ways.

RC8 slipper clutch is 'strictly race performance' for the simple reason that it wears out the clutch liners much quicker which then require replacement at more frequent intervals compared to those in a normal clutch. Not something everyone wants to shell out the moolah for! In my view it definitely improves safety for the rider. Anyone who has locked the rear wheel by selecting the wrong gear will testify to that!!!

Very unlikely that ktm would release a slipper clutch model without an announcement (and a price hike!). When i checked out the new 390 today (the one that has extra front fork protectors) the clutch did feel softer but when i asked them if it in fact did have a slipper clutch they said that ktm still hasn't informed them about any such thing and it might take a week or so for them to get more information on this from ktm. What i suspect for now could be a redesigned clutch bell/springs as mustang28 pointed out.
So those who want to pick up their 390's / 200's now, do look for the extra fork protectors so that you know its the latest model.
the ninja z250 though has a slipper clutch from the 2015 model on wards.

Guys,
Has anyone been able to register their new rc's in maharashtra?
Its been 10 days since i got the bike, and the dealer says some agent strike is going on.
Dont these guys have the liability to register our vehicles within specified time? And if i do it myself, can i ask back for the money which was paid in name of registration?

Another tragedy happened to me, while I booked the bike the price was 7k lower but when i took delivery of the bike they said the price has gone high and i have to pay the new price. The bike which i got delivery was there in the showroom for the last 1.5 months which means I got the old stock for the new price. I mailed KTM but there was no response from there end. My desparation made me pay 7k more else i would have never bought it. Is there anything I can do now or should I just curse my luck??

Temp registration is valid for 30 days past which you will have to pay a fine of 500 ( In Bangalore). As far as I recall, your dealer would have paid for the Road tax and there is a challan for that; if you want to do it yourself you will have to get that challan and fill up the form at the RTO.

I hope you read the terms and conditions at the time of booking the motorcycle. Its clearly mentioned in one of their clauses i.e "The bike will be delivered to the applicant only after receiving full payment of On-Road price of the bike on date of delivery"

food for thought- so after a almost 100 page ownership page are there any real niggles of the bike yet? i do not think so?
anything valuable you guys can chip in with here that we can look out for?
mine still runs like a dream
oh and update the jugaad to help reduce the vibration in battery cover. stick two foam strip thin ones at the front of the cover n you are good to go. works pretty well.

I was going to mention this, the newer lots have proper damping and fit very snugly.
