which brake ? front/rear ?Originally posted by Ajay Vishwanath View PostBUMP!! Anyone??
what kind of sound ? squealing ?
Check if the pads are worn out.
Then try to clean the disc rotor using a scotchbrite (dish cleaning) pad and some soapy water. Scrub the disc real good and wash off with water.
Next drop the pads, and rub them down a sand paper and put them back in.

Re: KTM RC 200 Owners Experience Thread
So my bike had her first fall today, i parked on a slope which didn't seem steep at all as all other bikes were parked as usual, i put her on the stand and get off and turn around, i sense something and i quickly turn back and see her moving, i gripped the handle and the under seat quickly but it was too late and i knew now i couldn't stop the fall so i try to let her down as easily as i could *worst feeling*. My friends and i picked her up and as it was a muddy surface, no damage was done except mud stuck on the side of throttle, which i removed with a pen. But the hole is now bigger and looks bad.Never ride faster than your guardian angel can fly.

Most brake pads use some sort of shim or spring to stop the pad from oscillating, aka making noise. What generally causes the noise is a small amount of movement by the pad at a very high frequency. Manufacturers eliminate this with shims, springs or a soft material that acts as a dampener. It is possible that one of these has failed from time, use or enviromental exposure. Another possibility is the pads are contaminated with oil splashed up from the road. The pad material is a blend or compounds that offer different traits in terms of wear, stopping power, noise etc. You may have a pad in which the material was not blended evenly and you are encountering hard spots that is causing the squeal. Another possibility is that the pads are equipped with a wear sensor. This is a small metal tab attached to the pad that rubs on the rotor when the pad is worn to the minimum usable thickness. The tab will rub at all speeds but may be audible only at slower speed

scotch brite is for the disc rotor - it removes surface grime and deposits.Originally posted by Freak inExile View PostScrubbing them with scotch-brite & detergent water is sufficient no?
sand paper is for the disc pads - to remove a small layer of pad material and restore optimum friction levels for the bite.

the duke pads do not use any such shim (the ninja's do). the front has a arrow headed metal clip(some call it anti rattle, and some say its just to hold the pads firmly in place because the front is a fixed caliper type brake system)Originally posted by rcboy View Postanswer -

my hunch is that his problem is not related to this vibration, but due to a glazed rotor or worn/glazed pads.
and the duke pads do not have the metal tab type wear indicator. the front has a single groove and rear is just a flat pad with no groove. unless you use up the entire material, there will not be any metal to metal contact.

Well.. At least you dropped yours.. Mine was dropped by some unknown idiot on another bike and my seat was damaged.. There is a small hole on the rear indicator and the metal holder to the right rear seat is bent and is closer to the seat..Originally posted by jRay View PostSo my bike had her first fall today, i parked on a slope which didn't seem steep at all as all other bikes were parked as usual, i put her on the stand and get off and turn around, i sense something and i quickly turn back and see her moving, i gripped the handle and the under seat quickly but it was too late and i knew now i couldn't stop the fall so i try to let her down as easily as i could *worst feeling*. Well... Yes.. The squealing is there on lower speeds only.. Then if the speed is dropping rapidly, then there is a loud squeal like trucks brakes.. Not the shrill one.. The one with bass.. A big and loud one.. But that's rare.. It's there tho....Originally posted by rcboy View Postanswer -

Re: KTM RC 200 Owners Experience Thread
try doing what i mentioned earlier.. and when you put the pads back smear a tiny bit of grease (or brake caliper grease) on the metal side of the pads.Originally posted by Ajay Vishwanath View PostThe front.. I hardly use the rear..

i doubt you have the torx allen key that is needed to undo the single bolt, so head to the svc and have it done. while you are at it ask them to bleed the brake line a bit too.
btw, i did have my front disc rotor replaced at around 2300km on the odo, because the squealing noise was too much especially after the disc was warmed up and used to create a high pitched squeal at slow speeds < 30kmph. no amount of cleaning or replacing the pads worked.. finally was replaced under warranty.
bike's done 11.5k km since and no issues.. just regular cleaning of the rotors at home and pads during service or as required.

I'll get it done the coming service.. it's going to come in a while soon.. the 4th service.. I'll ask them to clean the pads up.. they never did in either of the services..Originally posted by s1d View Posttry doing what i mentioned earlier.. and when you put the pads back smear a tiny bit of grease (or brake caliper grease) on the metal side of the pads.

Re: KTM RC 200 Owners Experience Thread
Even i have a wierd buzzing sound when i apply the front brake. Not a squeal but sort of like a bee buzzing near your ear, its faint but if theres not much noise i can hear it. Any idea about this?Never ride faster than your guardian angel can fly.

Yep.. It's normal.. The sound will be like rapid clicking and small.. Yep.. So I was told too. Along with the squeal, i also had this ZZzzz zzzzzz sound when the front brake was used and was told that its 'normal'Originally posted by jRay View PostEven i have a wierd buzzing sound when i apply the front brake. After the disc rotor was changed, I never had any of these sounds.
I think you guys should first clean up the rotor and pads by the method i mentioned and bleed the brakes a bit. Better if you have brake cleaner or acetone/paint thinner (use only a little dabbed on a cloth) use these to clean up the rotor and rub the pads down on sandpaper.
