Re: Suzuki GS150R
This was the situation in 2012 too. GS was the best one could buy in the 150cc, for lazy people who like long relaxed rides. It is still superlative to Unicorn in many ways, if one wants a highway cruiser. For starters, the better gauge/thickness of metal used in tank, chassis and swingarm makes it more rugged but makes it a bit heavier too. All controls on the GS are heavy. The clutch is heavier (-) but is long lasting (+). All cables are telfon-sleeved and dont need to be lubed. The throttle needed two cables to positively shut the butterfly valve. Tank doesn't rust, in or out. Gearbox is hard and notchy (here, Unicorn is unbeatable) and makes the GS a pain in the neck to drive in city stop-and-go. Even Yamaha and Honda cannot beat the quality of side-panels and headlamp cowl/HL unit in GS. Am not sure what to say about the 6th gear - it makes the GS engine run at 5800-ish RPM to do 80 kmph. I think the same can be achieved on the Xblade in 5th gear but since I have not ridden it, have no idea on engine's relaxed-ness. Unfortunately, it was the Unicorn that was commercial/mass success with our uncles. CBZ from Hero Moto Corp/HH is better.Originally posted by PUN_DIT View Post
If you really find the GS to be the only motorcycle you are comfortable cruising for long rides, buy that 2nd hand - you need to take all precautions while buying a used one. I was hesitant to recommend you that because you said the seller was "in a hurry" and I have no idea of SVC quality in Jamshedpur. All I can say is, many common parts (filter, nuts, bolts, rubber hoses, bearings, shoes, MC cup, piston seals, sprocket, chain, brake hose, bulbs) can be interchanged with other brands in an emergency and any local mechanic can do basic servicing. Quirky items and model specifics like a clutch cover gasket or carb insulator can't be interchanged.Originally posted by PUN_DIT View Post
It vanished from the Suzuki websites of Colombia/Argentina/Mexico. Only our friend Gil @gs150r_gilbert can confirm. I think Gixxer/Intruder has taken GS' place.Originally posted by PUN_DIT View PostLast edited by ashwanth.r; 09-24-2019, 05:36 PM.

Re: Suzuki GS150R
WRONG, I think there are hardly any members with spare time to answer, I am from kochi, kerala, bought a used gs thee years ago and it has served me well, servicing is an issue becuse spare parts are not available easily in the open market, you may have to visit the ASC, but they have never refused to sell any part if available with them, I have completed 87000km on the ODO , minor valve issue is present , cylinder and bore may have to be replaced in the future so i ordered wit the asc in advance and I got it, next coming to regular services, if you can do a little bit of jugaad and have a mind to learn new skills then no problem, i am a computer mechanic but learnt to sservice my bike as that saves time and money, in these three years i have never touched the engine, most common jobs are chain cleaning and maintenance, disk brake fluid change and cleaning, engine oil replacement, painting rusted areas on the frame ,do them at correct intervals and you wont have a problem, also buy spares like oil filter air filter in advance so you wont have to wait, visit youtube for a video i posted https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MHp9XiFoTPk&t=2s. search suzuki gs 150r engine oil flushOriginally posted by PUN_DIT View PostThank you very much everybody. I have asked this question twice in the span of two years in this forum. Nobody replied. It itself says that the bike does not worth buying 2nd hand in 2019.
Also the spares are not costly, you just need to have a good rapport with the ASC ,

I would not advice to go for GS anymore. Spares are very scarce and reliable mechanics is also hard to find.Originally posted by PUN_DIT View PostThank you very much everybody. I own a 2012 GS and had done 47K. Now wanted to get a new bike, but till now no other bike gives me the satisfaction that GS gave me.
Ex-owners of GS, can you please help me in buying my next bike. Which one do you folks thinks is a seamless transition from GS, in terms of quality and character.

Any specific spares that are difficult to source?Originally posted by getvmurali View PostI would not advice to go for GS anymore. Spares are very scarce and reliable mechanics is also hard to find.

Are you ready to upgrade cc wise and willing to look into desi manufacturers (TVS/Bajaj)?Originally posted by getvmurali View PostEx-owners of GS, can you please help me in buying my next bike. P.S. I vaguely remember seeing you at JAV once. You have a white GS, IIRC. Later, both of us posted here we visited JAV that day.

Re: Suzuki GS150R
SVC in Chennai don't sell spares easily. They wanted to get them fixed there itself.
The build quality, reliability, milage and comfort are the top priority for me. Iam even okay to go for higher CC bikes.Originally posted by ashwanth.r View PostAny specific spares that are difficult to source?

Re: Suzuki GS150R
Why not pick the latest Gixxer with Fi and LED headlamps (If pillion comfort is not on the list)? Other good ones are 160/200 4v from TVS and FZ-16 from Yamaha. Do share your TD experiences, even am looking for a worthy successor to my GS150R (It's difficult).Originally posted by getvmurali View PostThe build quality, reliability, mileage and comfort are the top priority for me. Pillion comfort is very important for me. I did try gixxer and FZ. Both seems not very build in comparison to GS150R. TVS yet to tryOriginally posted by ashwanth.r View PostWhy not pick the latest Gixxer with Fi and LED headlamps (If pillion comfort is not on the list)? Re: GS150R - Red GS Pre-Update!
hi,
so after a long time decided to give my bike to a reputed mechanic for servicing, i had a slight oil consumption issue with loss of compression, sometimes repeated kicks wont start the bike, slight throttle would bring to a halt and only after around 5 or 10 mins would it start again, luckily so i thought i ordered full cylinder kit and valve seals weeks ago and was promptly alerted on its arrival, armed with it i visited the mechanic, who took a day to open the head [he is a busy guy, cant blame him], he advised to replace the cylinder/piston together with the valve, advised against reboring said wont last long, when he went for valve polishing/seating found another problem ,the top end of the valves were worn to a slight concave dip, later the lathe guy advised to change the camshaft as well as it was worn down just slightly , i could scrape my finger nail at a particular point, what i like was they didnt hurry ,took their time to assess the problem and notified me ,
now began my woes as i contacted every ASC for spares but the valve and camshaft were unavailable , finally got hold of a spare shop in Trivandrum, but he only had the valve , he couriered it ASAP, [ anyone from kerala who needs his number pm me] . later found a camshaft lying at another ASC 20 kms from home , visited as soon as it opened and gave these to the mechanic, he has asked me 2 days to complete the job, so waiting to get my hands on my bike , total cost came to around 7000rupees without labour, thats around half my salary of 15k, in hindsight thats better than buying a new bike for 80 or 100k cause if everything is ok then i can surely continue with this bike for around 50000 to 80000km , by the way my bike has just completed 89000km, I just met another gs guy on the way and was stunned to know he hasnt touched his engine even after 127000km, adding some pics below,

one more thing , the lathe guy advised me to replace the valve guide, there are 2 of the in the head, but told me to change only the one on the exhaust side, now this item is not found either with the ASC or in the open market, even the spare parts catalogue doesnt show this item, i was wondering why doesnt the manufacturer provide this, the lathe guy said no manufacturer provides it they build it themselves, posting the pic below

Re: Gs150r -
Can you do a help for me? Time permitting, please ask your mechanic whether Unicorn's magneto puller will work for GS. The camshaft is very reasonably priced. Activa's should cost more or less. Thanks for the pics!Originally posted by RAIS@vypin View Postone more thing , the lathe guy advised me to replace the valve guide, there are 2 of the in the head, but told me to change only the one on the exhaust

Re: Gs150r
by a strange stroke of luck, the mechanic dropped the cam chain into the engine, so now he had to open the magneto cover to access it, the unicorn puller is suitable for gs, unfortunately for me I will now have to buy a gasket cover which isnt available anywhere near, so i have ordered from trivandrum as earlier and will receive in 3or 4days . adding some picsOriginally posted by ashwanth.r View PostThank you!
