saw the bike today standing near NGV, looks ok from front not very different, but yes from back it makes all the sense of standing apart.

Guys, here are a few thoughts from my side on the GS150R after a test ride.

I had a lot of expectations on the bike and people who know me well say that I just don't get to like things so easily Yeah, I face difficulty when shopping with wife

Despite the expectations and having seen the Honda's closely for years and riding an R15 currently, I liked the build quality and how almost everything feels about the bike. The test ride bike met with a small accident the previous day (a DCM scraped it on the silencer and the bike fell to the right... handlebar was bent a little taking it outwards from the tank. It was given for service and for handlebar replacement but since we were waiting for a test ride they got it out with only the oil change. The bike clocked some 1500 odd KMS by then.

            Few things cut short -
Looks: may be for the second time I liked a black bike - first being the new Unicorn with chrome Honda logo and then the GS150R which betters the Uni. Especially the rear 3 quarters angle.. Satish, where's the photo?

BTW, the blue is greenish and is a dislike. The silver / grey looks very good.

Comfort: the bike feels tall when u sit on but my feet can touch the ground comfortably just as I can on the R15. I am 5'8". The seating comfort is superb. The handle was bent with left side going outwards and right side going inwards but still the riding position was great and handling was light.

Ride: Good. As light as my Victor when on the move and felt like I am riding the ZMA. The feel is big and the power is delivered neat and effortlessly. I haven't ridden the Honda's off late and hence cannot compare... I took a U turn at about 10 speed on a road with sand and tiny gravel with a pillion - didn't feel like I took a U turn - better than the ZMA (ZMA's front weight falls on my hands when turning). A bigger surprise was when I looked at the console while exiting the turn the speed was 10 KMPH and the gear was 3 and not 2 as I thought. I gave slight throttle and the bike just pulled ahead - no "natak".

Braking is progressive & efficient. Biek revvs very easily and smoothly. Gear shift is very good. Used only the toe shifter but tried the heel shifter once and it was not bad as against the first thoughts upon seeing a lifted heel position.

Now, about the carb. Guys, who ever is thinking that the TVS Victor, Fiero F2 and Apache is only the green & red lights in the speedo based on throttle position, you are wrong. They have a dual map digital CDI that actually works. Someone mentioned that a person working with Suzuki dealer said there is no mapping... then pls check with a HH dealer about the fuel mapping of ZMA - that's is selling for over 5 years... they'd hardly know. Not many mechanics in the HH SC's know about it.

Suzuki mentions that it is butterfly carbutettor and I forgot all I read about it BTW, pls excuse my out of focus photos.

            Here's the dual throttle cables:

Here they are at the carburettor - similar to what the ZMA has

The other side of the carb - see those extra wires & the black unit plonked to it!

See that heatsync at the bottom right? What can that be? the CDI thing? it has a wire going into the black unit on the carb (I pulled the wires to know this)

Well, do you guys still think it is just a plain old carb? That's upto you.

Here comes the console. Photos specially taken for ECO & Power modes. See top tight.

            ECO Mode:

            PWR mode:

no modes - drive as you want:

            Here's another interesting bit:

Notice the bike not moving, front brake depressed, bike in first gear, over 1.5K RPM and speed as 4KMPH...

Well, there was no speedo cable connected to the front wheel. Looks like it comes from the drive train. In the above photo the bike was on center stand and we were giving it throttle in first gear... excuse my idiotic camera that took the photo late - not capturing double digit speeds

So, now you can know your wheelie speed too! (thought contribution - Satish)

And, yes, how ever you want to start the bike 0 kick or self (didn't try the push type) you have to hold the clutch - no matter even if u r in neutral. Well, saftey? but can be a bit irritating.

BTW, I blasted my R15 (yes, for a change, Madinaguda to Secunderabad in regular traffic in 35 minutes - stopped at almost every signal. usial time 45-50 minutes) to Kiran TVS for 20+ kms & then I rode Satish's freshly oil changed RTR to the Suzuki Showroom - for over 8 KMs and after the test ride I rode my R15. The GS150 is smoother than my R15. I told abt this so that you guys can have an idea about the power delivery I am used to at that moment and the relative sense my thoughts would make.

Man, the RTR is real fun. BTW, Satish dropped the R15 idea after passing through the 1 KM long traffic jam.

I think Suzuki need to do some more PR / marketing for this bike. I think its only their half-arsed approach that is holding back the sales of this bike.

Although this bike still makes the std-for-its-class ~14PS, the price, refinement and things like the led tail lamps, digi speedo kit, 6speed gearbox, decent mileage - all these make it a really good deal - compared to the Hunk/CBZ-X/P150 etc...

I think it can be a volumes product for suzuki... just market it properly...

Really good observation, very informative. Good work keep it up.

I think this bike has lot of potential, if marketed properly this bike can satisfy those people who always wanted to have Unicorn with new generation goodies.

Good very informative post......so this clears there is fuel mapping involved in these modes....... leaves me relaxed..

BTW did anyone check that internal headlight adjustment.......I read that the bike also comes with headlight adjustment....I could not find it......any ideas.....

Yes... if the mode is either ECO or PWR. I didn;t mention it as that was discussed earlier.

Did you check if there is a nut or a screw under the headlight? Many bikes have the headlight beam adjustment bolt there. The manual generally mentions such stuff... may be some owner can post a scan / photo of that page.

I checked Feb 09 Bike India issue yesterday, where they have compared GS150 with Unicorn, pulsar and for some reason, Achiever. There they have clearly mentioned that the modes control only lights, and no mention about the mapping. They say that in Eco mode, light starts blinking at 4500 RPM, and stays on after 8000 RPM. In Power mode, it just flicks on after 8000RPM, indicating you are in powerband and close to REV limit.
