    • Buddies,
      Have completed 6100kms & 3 services done.Bike is too smooth & great going,but....

Tragedy has struck on friday 10-Jul-09 late in the evening.I was going home from my office which is around 30kms.From the moment I started my bike & put it in 1st gear I figured some problem with the clutch as it was way too loose than the normal operation, but just kept on moving & when I was short of 5kms from my home, the clutch cable snapped & my bike wont move a inch & stranded.it was around 2000hrs & I called the service centre, but to my another bad luck it was closed for the day.Pushed the bike till home & waited for next morning.

Called up the service centre as soon as I got up & told him about this incident,to which he said "Sirjee the cable stock is not yet arrived from the company, but I will somehow try & get that fixed it today itself".He sent his mechanic in the evening with a clutch cable from another bike & everything is working fine now.

My only worry here is that if I had been on a ride to some far of place then I would have been stranded there because of no availability of spares. Why dont we all write to the company & ask them to make the necessary spares available as early as possible to avoid such situations.

      What say fellows??

Hey congrads on your first GS Xperience.

        1. Rear break is poor for all GS. I guess this is one of the major bugs in GS. But I heard that it improves after 2nd service.

        2. I do not totally agree to that b'coz this bike handles well in traffic as well as bad roads. and I do not think height would be a problem unless you tend to keep your feet down very often. So if you change ur riding habits a bit that'll be ok.. by riding habits I mean, if suddenly stop from >35Kmph which will need to be balanced very quickly, you'll find it difficult to cope up with the weight. You'll get used to it buddy so need not worry.

        3. I'm not sure what this is I have never felt that. Can you be specific from where the sound comes from, what kind of sound ??

        4. Another bug [I heard it can be adjusted]

        5. Keep your bike below or at 4.5Krpm. Keep it ECO mode so that the blinker will tell you that you've crossed the limit.

        6. The optimum gear shift period is somewhere between 3 - 3.5K rpm. you can read some of the posts by our GS owners some time back.

        7. 6th gear before first service is not a problem at all. But crossing 4.5K often will do. Its not about the speed buddy, stick to the gear shifting period, and 4.5K rpm and everything will go well.

regarding the clirch sound while you turn off the engine, Its not a problem at al. Its the sound of the electric motor as it gets engaged with the enging at around 800 rpm[not sure].
The rated speed of the electric motor is very less than that of the engine. so when you do an electric start, the motor sound comes. When the engine is started, the engine has a higher speed [say at idling 1.3Krpm]. So if the motor is still engaged to the engine, the motor will burn out. To avoid that, the motor disengages after the engine has started. When you stop, the engine speed reduces say from 1.5Krpm to 0,
the motor will get engaged back at the rated speed[800rpm]. At that point of time you'll hear that sound.

Hope I've not bored you with theory, but thats how that sound is produced.

              Augustine,
You can write to them on Suzuki Motorcycle Corporate Office
write to them saying no spares are available & hence it is very difficult to take the bike out of city limits.

There is way wherein you can ride the bike without the clutch cable but there will be load on the clutch plates & if you are not careful enough you might even end up burning them.

              • @imjoshee: Thank god you were in city. I'll make sure I'll buy a spare clutch cable/accelerator cable for my touring purpose. Is there any expiry date on that?

Hey thanks... How is that we can drive without clutch cable. Did you mean if we change gears as such I dont dare to hurt my gear box. Also I was wondering how clutch plates might get burnt. am actually weak in this area... Probably you could throw some light on it...

If this sound comes from the front wheel, then it may be the brake sound; since My dad's Suzuki Zues had the same problem. The discs makes some sound if the pads are not positioned properly. You'll have to visit your SC to get it done. Just take a look at the manual, see the position of pads and check if your bike discs are OK... not sure if the improper positioning can seen with our eye...
If the sound comes from rear, then I'm not sure if its the brake... Experts any opinion ???

sorry to mention the side...itz rear only...i have tried to tighten the break....may be it happened due to this.
i lke to book one more complient on my bke ,today when im coming back to home i found my console nutral indication blinking when the bke in 1st gear,Is this common or can be rectified or series fix?
Further when the bke in 5th gear @45kmph itz smooth then chnaging immediate to 6 th gear i feel roughness in the engine and lite vibes too... and when the bke in 2 to 4 th gear and below 3k rpm some kind of vibe i feel in foot rest and handle too...

On the way to home i have to cross very traffic city where u cannot cross 20 km speed for 3-4km...that time i can drive only 20km @2-4 th gear...when i keep on chnaging my gear and speed sometime my bke got jerk(daga daga)....my good when i book this bke SC gys told me u can run this bke in 20kmph @ 6th gear .......this makes to feel that GS also a normal bike in this matter.

i dont put the engine guard(a plate below the engine) SC guys told still they're not received anything lke engine gaurd for this model..can any1 guide me for this...coz im worrying about the speed breaker/durts may hit the engine....

Yes it is in gear. I didn't noticed it. Actually xenos won't allow us to start if it's not in neutral. But our GS starts in gear if the clutch is engaged. If the clutch is not engaged it won't start. But it will give some jerk and move forward. This is enough to get our bike damaged. May be akfara is right. Even they didn't connect a wire in my system. I fixed an ON/OFF switch seperately for security.

Hey akfara, Nice to hear that u have a solution to this problem. But my new bikes tank is already damaged. The remote lock model name is FIREWALL - 45 buddy. Even in my bike, they didn't connect a grey colored wire. The mechanic took more time to analyse that wire. Then he leave as it is. I bought an ON/OFF switch for 20 rupees gave it to him and asked him to fix it under my seat to control the remote start feature. He just did what i say. Somehow it did solved the problem but not in the right way. Diabling the feature is a solution but not the best one. Nice to hear that your mechanic has a proper solution. Get it done quickly and tell us if it works properly. You can contact me anytime buddy. Not only you, anyone can contact me regarding anything. My mobile no +919994467208. All GS owners calls are welcomed.
