atlast i have company for gear shifting issues!!!Originally posted by kumarprabhatn View PostUpdate: After about 500km I m getting 63kmpl. Quite satisfied except for headlights and problems with quick shifting of gears. When I stop suddenly when I m at 6th gear (coz a dog came in between or something), when I try to reduce to 1st gear really fast (coz the vehicles behind you are making you deaf even though you wore helmet) the gears kinda get stuck, the gear indicator goes blank and I have 2 release clutch before shifting to lower gears. Anyone else facing this problem?? Also, anyone has come up with a good bulb for the headlights which give significant improvement ??
to my knowledge downshifting is not a problem in other bikes .. this is my own experience with my old victor..see my earlier posts... no hassles downshifting in zero speed.... now no brickbats at me again for comparing with victor....
and people tell the gears are butter smooth... no no no mummy paavam!!! mummy paavam!!!!

ownership update
Hi all,
quick ownership update:
Odo has touched 390kms now.. Last fuel efficiency I got was 58.3kpl over 3 liters of petrol, calculated on reserve to reserve. Have been driving 90% in ECO mode, but not particularly caring about accelerating slowly. I guess pretty decent for city riding.
Overall, found driving quite enjoyable on the vehicle. 6th gear a boon for driving on highways/ empty roads. the bike chugs along in a stress-free manner at 60-70 kph speeds, feeling quite stable and safe. However, there definitely is that minor resonance/vibes at 3.5K Rpm levels. But it is not much of a bother. Guess will have to wait till the first service and see if this improves..
Also, quite a few curious passersby / other bike owners have asked about the vehicle. so it does look good i guess
Also, one thing to note is that it is definitely not made for short drivers. I am 5'' 10.5', average build, and the overall ergonomics are comfy for me. However, shorter friends taking TD have found it a little high for comfort. And while driving also you tend to notice that you are looking down upon most other vehicles on the road! I quite like it this way though
however, one irritant has surfaced - there is a tik-tik sound emanating from the rear left side, when I go hard over a bump.. Not sure of the source.. saree guard maybe ??
Anyone else with similar experience..

How are you calculating the mileage? I feel the brim-to-brim method is inaccurate. I rely on reserve-to-reserve method. Check the mileage calculation thread for more details.Originally posted by manubhat View PostSorry guys,

Suggestion required.
Hi all I have been following this thread for the past 1 month and going through the valuable comments.
Finally I have decided to buy or book this one tomorrow. As this is my first bike which i am buying i am really excited about it. I wanted to Know about few points from the senior members.
1) Which showroom is better in pune Swargate or Kothrud.
2) Mode of payment. should i go for that 0% percent scheme OR I haved managed to save the cost of the bike from past months. Use That.
3) Points to be considered while taking the delivery (Rc book .. which documents to be collected from the dealer)

before crossing ur 1st service u did 60-70km speed
..boss too much...
then how did u calculate your millage....i use to reset my trip meter into 0.0 while getting reserve.fill 1 litre petrol, then find the trip meter reading till next reserve..is this calculation is OK.
from 1st reserve to petrol bunk it may take 5 km...is this necessary to add from trip meter reading ,y bcoz im making trip meter 0 while it get reverve.

I have done 280kms so far. I have made it a point to ride below 4.5k rpm, never crossed 60km/hr mark. Feel the midrange power is ok and the bike could do a spirited run post 60km/hr speed. Ride comfort is good but not as expected when changing from a old 2stroke to plush 4stroke bike. Maybe my expectations were too high. Problems faced so far ...
1. Mileage - Not upto the mark! My bike returns a mileage of 45km/ltr ... It is quite less when compared to the mileage figures mentioned by many owners here.
2. Gear shifts - The gear shifts are so hard & loud that even my neighbour could hear me shift gears. I'm also having tough time finding the neutral in normal riding conditions.
3. Brakes - They are ok, they do the job when necessary but its not sharp as other bikes in the market.
4. Headlight - Just pathetic.
5. Hard hitting metal noise - Everytime when i upshift gears and accelrate i hear a loud metal noise and could also feel the thud from the bike. Not sure if its from the engine block or rear sprocket. Anybody facing such a thing. Never faced anything like this with my 2stroke.

60-70kph in 6th gear is possible - as long as you drive within the 5000rpm limit which the manual prescribes. Of course I have not really ridden at that speed for long periods, considering that have mostly driven in city/outskirts. Also, not gone on a highway trip yet. Most probably I will wait for 1st service and then only take the bike on highway.
The method you are following for mileage should give you accurate results. Simply put,
Mileage = Kms driven between each reserve/ petrol filled.
Siddhv,
Have the below suggestions for you:
1. Ensure that you get to inspect the vehicle before buying it. There have been a few complaints of rust in the petrol tank by xbhp users. Ensure you check your vehicle thoroughly for rust/scratches etc. Go in the day-time to the dealer for this, and not in the evening when light is poor. Take TD also of your particular piece. Also, it would be a good idea to note down the engine/ chassis number once you have selected your bike, so that the dealer doesnt swap bike later.
2. If you have the cash, then I would suggest that you just pay up! 0% schemes usually have some fee applicable, like processing fees etc.. there will always be a cost. In addition, there will be hypothecation on the vehicle in favour of the bank, which will need to be removed on repayment of loan. So, weigh the pros and cons and your own needs, before you decide.
Wish you good luck on your purchase buddy, and safe driving! Needless to say, keep us updated

I dont own a GS150R, I have a unicorn, but what i feel I think are generic to all 4-strokers.Originally posted by donarun View PostI have done 280kms so far. 1. Do not expect good mileage till the bike has run for at least 1500kms. The insides of the engine needs breaking in, and the smoothness is only developed over a period of time.
2. Just like above point, the transmission also needs to break-in for smooth shifts. Understanding the engine revs for correct shifting is very important and is different for different bikes.
3. No comments on the brakes. Unicorn brakes are not much to shout about either.
4. Bad headlight on the unicorn as well.
Cheers!

that noise is from drive chain... i think it is loose, ask service center to tighten it.Originally posted by donarun View PostHard hitting metal noise - Everytime when i upshift gears and accelrate i hear a loud metal noise and could also feel the thud from the bike.
