about the idle rpm, once the engine gets warmed up(2km of riding) the rpm comes to 1.3-1.5k so i dont think i can adjust it as it would touch 2k later on.

for cold start do all of you accelerate a little after starting(bring it to 2k) or just kick and let it idle from the start without accelerating ??

Bro ...it is not a problem....just when you start the bike...you can rise it a little upto 2K not much more than that.....
idling does not mean to exactly to keep it in idle...it is done mainly to get the oil circulated properly....

So you can just rise the throttle a bit....intermittently....upto 1 min...then you can keep the RPM's at lower level upto about 4-5 kms....once the engine warms up.....you can then rip it....

Bro for the bike too it is like human beings....if we get up in the morning...at the right time...everything happens at the right time....eating too happens at the right time...we will be in a good mood whole day....

it is the same for bikes too....you properly handle them in the morning...the bike will be smooth for the whole day.....
Bikes also have moods....remember bikes are considered as fairer sex..

Awesome pics first of all.. something nice about GS after so many spoilers. Aminite... right said man... @ 5k RPM the bike changes from a silent cruiser to a beast and drags and drags and drags.. keep dragging... feels amazing, one has to experience it, cannot be explained in words... you simply love that... try it...
I already said many times, no one overtakes this bike after 5th gear and forget about other bike following you when you are in 6th...
My bike is almost 3.5 months old now, no issues till date. Whenever i park bike, people on the road slows their vehicle and keep glazing @ my bike... feels very good.
All the people who all thinking about this bike my humble suggestion is GO FOR IT... you never regret

About ripping it, my bike is at 200km odo still
have to wait for another 800 atleast.
but upto 4.5k rpm sometimes i accelerate really fast
hard to resist zipping thru traffic
and the no. of people who stare at the bike!! my god, its awesome
since i bought the bike(9 days ago) 3 people on the road asked me about the bike

about cold start,i think that was what i was doing wrong all this while,
i never accelerated even a little after kicking so it would idle at 1k for few seconds and turn off.
About kicking the bike in off position for oil circulation, i think it will flood the engine with petrol and may give problems when u try kicking in on position. is it correct ???

          guys,
Been following the thread over the past few days, since the rust issue has cropped up. Made me also really worried as to whether there were any rusted parts on my bike also. I was finally able to give my bike a once over during the weekend - gave it for a pressure-wash to a nearby mechanic and then checked the whole bike thoroughly. Happy to report absolutely no rust whatsover . My ODO reads 1500kms now (One service done), and has regularly been drenched in chennai rains over the last month and half.

Till now, have taken the bike for 4-5 short highway trips, and can only say that I have really had a blast. I have taken it upto 100kph on the ECR, and the bike was rock steady. Have ridden it in heavy rains in the city - again it has not let me down till date. One feels really stable on the highway at of 70-80kph on the bike - It is really a mile muncher. Also, am using it for my daily commute to office. Thus, my view is that this is really one bike which provides comfortable daily commuting + relaxed highway cruising on the weekends. All in all, am loving my bike more and more with evry passing day !!

I am hoping that the rusting problem is only with certain batches of the bike, and quickly sorted out by Suzuki..

          Cheers!
          Srini

At the initial start its not exactly 1.5k... its between 1 and 1.5k... After riding for a few minutes and stop at any signal, i ll find the idle rpm to be 1.5k

Any issues with this?? Guys... need your opinions

              thats how it should be
when u start initially and the engine is cold the rpm will be lower.
for me it touches 1.5k only after riding for 7-8km.
after riding 2km till 7km the idle rpm is around 1.3k

about cold start i tried starting it now(9 in the night), since its sunday i didnt turn it on today before this.
it started with 1 kick accelerated for a sec to 2k then kept it at 1.5 for 5 seconds, it was fine..

              • A makeover after my crash

Many here are worried about saving the inner tank from rust ... but I am concerned about saving the external look of the tank

Went to many lining works shops to get a tank cover... Many didnt have it coz this is a new bike.. Finally found a shop in pudupet who stitched the tank cover especially for GS after taking the measurements and my requirements..... He said that he has stitched tank covers for almost 8 - 10 GS so far.. He charged Rs. 100 for it

To save the original seat i added another seat cover on top of it... Found a good material... Cost me around Rs.200... He said that GS has got a wonderful seat

Changed the broken visor on my helmet (Rs.120)... There were many scratches on my helmet so i did some stickering work on it... Again 100 bucks...

Some quick updates on the bike:

                1) Cant feel the 3.5k thing
                2) 3700 on the ODO... My bike is accelerating freely... Its asking me to drag it more... But my crash incident is stopping me to push her to the top
                3) Front discs are awesome... WOW.. Its damn wonderful

                Overall... A satisfied GS owner

                  Hi!!!!!!!!
Figured out the reason for my yesterday's accident....
Lack of air in the rear tyre i suppose....
Because I didn't hit anyone on the road, was only @ 35 - 40 kmph and driving style was usual...

Last week i had to change the rear tube since it was damaged badly due to a 2 inch nail...
Those fellows(local mechanic) must have put in an old tube.
3 days after replacement, i found that the pressure dropping below 20.
Today morning when i checked the bike, i fount that the tyre was almost flat...

Anyway tomorrow morning i am going to the same mechanic and will ask him to rip the type... Will take him to task if the tube is old

These people also stole almost 2lts of petrol during that time....

                  One lesson i learnt...
Should always stand by the bike in such cases...

To me more than the money, it is the matter of life and my bike getting damaged...

My Dad's friend is a happy owner now&thanking me for getting him the bike!

Ditto on the start-up issue...still mine runs on idle for ~ 2 mins, w/o revving, petrol off...

My accelerating strongly means AT 2+ gears, give a stronger (u feel the sound change from tractor to firing turbo tractor) twist such that its reaching 4.5K from 2.5K in ~2 secs
                      I simply float at 1st gear with 2nd ~2.5 -3K...acc. is only 2+ onwards
Whatever be the speed, gear(2+) or acceleration, i always shift at 4K or at blink

Btw buddy acc. strongly (never flatout) is must in a new bike...simply floating slowly through gears or cruising at 6th gear at 4K is not gonna harm the engine but also it want allow the engine to be properly sealed and free...
Till 420 odo i kept on driving at different gears (rapid upshifts with engine braking), took my friends along ( extra weight loads the engine and is essential), went on inclinations at 3rd gear ~ 4K, but never lugging it ...
Have to say Kerala is ideal for runnin-in Districts U have climbs and dips, get cornering control, Metro its gear changes and really heating engine (traffic jams)

No matter what speed and esp. at any higher gear, never try acc. from 2K ...Engine lugs (its even worse if engine knocks) though it will come up slowly to 3K, its bad and will certainly damage engine... Cheerios

Btw checkout Motoman site...oops u must have it done a thesis on it already btw i feel its true TO a certain extend
Best Guide: The manual itself Pg: 4-3, 4-4, 5-6...Thats what i did and its giving results

The rust issue was only due to manufacturing defect of a particular batch i think and has done enough damages to the brand Suzuki itself.
Hope Suzuki People won't repeat the same thing again

                        • Hey guys thinking of giving bike 4 service tom. (hope they dont spoil the working ) since its near 800 odo and feel the chain sound is more...also cant wait to acc. at 5K (that drag 2 days ago was powerful and bike was ever ready for some more)

Btw have found out that if u feel that a thud sound upon downshift is eminent( say 5-4-3 at 60 kms), apply full clutch, putting pressure on the toe shifter till it u feel its less hard and make it go down sloowly to 4 without clank...the remaining gears will be clank free with downshifts : tip given to me by a xtreme friend and its working 99/100 times

Nway buddies just want to know wats the 1st service bill cost, can we opt for the mobil 3000 20W40 oil (as mentioned here before) and will bike be ready on same day ?...need the bike for a trip on tue and wanna also give GS some oil as reward for good work

                          • Don't Look To Much Into Rusting

I went to showroom to check the bikes there wasn't any issues of rusting as seen on pics.

No bike will have rusting like that shown on pics. And he bought without checking the bike properly.I have one doubt whether it is really the pics of suzuki bike.

Suzuki is the best bike now available on market and the Honda unicorn it costs 2k more than this one.Honda guys are charging for everything like accessories itself cost around 3000K but for Suzuki only Rs 525 for accessories everything is included in bike.

That's good news !!, so Suzuki has acted on 'rusting' quite a while back.
