  • I made a complete fool of myself today
i went to the service centre and complained that mileage is only 35.
those people put 100ml petrol in a can, connected it to the engine and one guy rode with me in the back and it went 6km.(mileage is 60 )
about the headlight assembly thing they said if its too tight it may crack sooner(fiber parts) so they keep it little loose and slight shakes are ok.

and my bike doesnt have rust anywhere as of now. i've been riding in heavy rain for about 2 days(bought it 1 week back)

    • Hey guys,
Can't we apply any anti rust sprays on the bike as a stop gap measure until suzuki india comes up with a solution which i think is probably long time away.....

Guys but still I would never give up on this bike.... I've been parking my GS in the rains(Chennai) so I'll check my bike today and see if I have rusts....

After the second service, the bike is better like butter.... The jerks have reduced to a considerable extent. Gear shifts are OK(,3,4,5,6 are gr8; 1 & 2 is not that smooth but does not bother me)..... 3000 done in the odo.

Guru.... I'd advise you to wait but not to give up on this bike... lets see how suzuki handles this issue.

It was heart breaking to see Vishal's pics...... We'll see what the thread Owner Sam has to say about this whether he's got any problem....

Bro...me too had the same shock after seeing those pics....

Ya man ...I am not giving up on the bike yet....as I told before....after pulsar this was the only bike I really liked from my heart....

As I thought of buying the bike next month....I will have to postpone it again for some more days I suppose....as you told till Suzuki compes up with a solution.....
Hope on Monday we might get some answer...as Vishal is getting his bike inspected and parts replaced...and the guy visiting from Suzuki India....

well there are not much options in 150CC at present....all the HH Extreme..Uni..Hunk....do not appeal to me....

I am keeping my fingers crossed....somehow all the issues should get sorted out...and I want this bike....

using media(tv news, papers etc) is a good idea. i think nokia also replaced bl-5c battery only after few cases were reported in news(they would have known the problem before hand itself though).
does anyone have contact with some good news paper to show all this.?

i think before fixing the bike you should ask some media person to make a story with ur bike's rusting problem and show it on the paper.

By the way, the bike is butter smooth , have had the bike for just three weeks and no new issues as yet except the already spoken ones. But after looking at ImJoshee's pics it has got me worried
Guys it is a good idea....we can send the pics to Times of India....but the thing is somebody who is facing problem first hand should take up the issue with media....

It is not a easy thing to deal with the media....newspapers are the best option...there are places for customer complains in the TOI....so anybody with the rust issue can approach them....

But I think we can wait till Monday...as Vishal will get to talk to the person from Suzuki who will be coming from delhi....
we can know what are the steps they are taking up for this issue....
And when can we expect the next lot of bikes without these problems....

Lets see on monday what Mr.Deepak will do to my bike as I am going to wait there at the service centre & keep an eye on them.

Bro...as you are meeting the guy on Monday....do ask about all the problems faced in the bike....

and also what are the steps they will be taking in future....to avoid these rusts and everything.....

And also please ask when can we expect the next lot of GS bikes without the Rust issue....any other issue is not a prob for me...but the rust is one heck pof a prob....

I will be waiting for that lot which comes out....Please do ask....

Ya bro...we can apply the Anti-rust sprays....like somebody had said we can use the RUSTLICK....or some other ani-rust...

The thing is if the rust happens at a lot of places...it is difficult to deal with it only with the help of sprays....or even the spray won't be effective...if the rust happens like in the pics....
as you said as a stop gap measure it can be used....

I had brought a can of WD40 , just in case...still have no use for it and hopefully its not gonna be needed ever

After seeing buddy imojshree & the orange GS rust pics, wonder whether it has something to do with location...that rust is not slight, its massive erosion of metal and wonder how imoj could still not go and not seek complete replacement of his GS.

A letter got to be sent to suzuki heads seeking definite actions else going to media & mags ( a pic would do all the talkings) with it as posted here.

BTW does the Zeus, Access have any such rust issues ???

Update: Have now driven 620 kms & getting 50+ kpl consistently (R 2 R) after having driven at jams and highways (<65)...The bike engine feels more free reving (u gt it) and lower gears are smooth & definite...higher is gr8

The only issue that came up (esp. today) is (i just felt it...am not still sure) the fr tyre tends to skid under hard disc braking...feel its the GS wt and dynamics thats preventing bike 4m losing any stability under such braking

Also have today noticed that the tacho. will stop showing rpm when choosing modes...Since tacho is analog so how does it stop...wonder is there a correlation on engine functioning and modes( yep yep i do remember the TPS debate ) or there is plenty of A/D and D/A convertors on this bike

Okay buddies i do like acting like an idiot (' ') & am going to answer my own Q

The tacho does a full swing on console startups, hence it obviously has some electromagnet to do it...hence bringing the pointer to 0 under mode change should be the same trick

            Now i am relieved

            • Details from Mr. AnilPatil

Guys I recieved the details form Mr. Anil Patil about his bike.

He had bought the bike on 18th June 2009...and did not use it for nearly a week...as it had not been registered....he told me that he had kept it covered.

After that...nearly a week later....he started to notice the rusts...and it began to get worse day by day...and he sent the complaint to Suzuki people on 28th of June....

Probabaly he sent those rust pics later...beacuse...I do not think it will rust so much in 10 days....
anyway he told that he returned the bike and got the money back....and by that time he said the ODO read around 500kms....most of it was done by visiting the dealer regularly with the probs....

So it is fairly new bike...I mean it is not of the older lot...like Jan or Feb....it is just June...only 2 months back....

So suzuki might not have taken any action still...so we might expect the steps to be taken atleast after another 3 months or so...

              What do you guys say...??

              • Right now have called up a contact in the only cochin showroom:

He told me frankly that two pieces (both were blue...one displayed which i saw) for them had rust from the time they had come...he also told me that one truck which had come 4 Kerala had most of the GS rusted at various places as the truck roof had collapsed with water stuck in the protective plastic coverings for days...those bikes are currently in circulation here as test bikes and for training mechanics & some unfortunate customers...

Even He Has NO IDEA why some bikes are rusted...Btw My spare tacho is yet to arrive as a spare Nway current tacho works

All my cycles which were covered with a cloth material ( they r new) and kept unused in sun and rain had corrosion within a month...

The last cannon barrel purchased was kept out without cover ( had to grow up 4m protecting a cycle )...it developed visible rust only after a complete year

They will allow (er...not the glass) as u had booked one and u decide which one...I do believe if ur bike is gonna rot later on, it will have some indications ( my showroom experience) somewhere...

I have come to the conclusion that only a certain batch are having these issue...but then its a BIG QUALITY ISSUE and needs to be stopped . like that

Hey Bro...do not worry...everybody is not facing such high rust issue. Most of them are facing just the fuel tank issue...

As you have already booked it....just inspect it throughly....and take the bike...purchase a Anti Rust spray and keep using it from day one....
and maintain your bike properly...do not use much in rain....do not keep it exposed outside.....just take care....
and just do not wory yourself.....GOOD LUCK MAN....

                          • Hi Guys,

Am visiting this Thread after about a Week as was a bit busy off late. Am shocked with the turn of Events in this Thread. In the first 200 Pages, there are only positives and praises about the GSR. And now, it's a different story. The Pics of Mr. Anil's and Vishal's GSR are really shocking, especially the former one.
Now, i am getting a bit concerned about my GSR, just like the others.
I had also reported Rust on my GSR in the Fuel Tank and the Chain Cover. My 2nd Service is due next Week.

Was thinking of getting the Rusted Parts replaced during 2nd Service.
But am having 2nd thoughts now as the new Parts might also evengually rust again.
Thinking of waiting till a permament solution is found by Suzuki. Wonder when that will be. Way say Guys..........

Regarding approaching a Newspaper, in Pune, Pune Mirror is very active is publishing Customer Grieviences and Problems. But the people worst hit with the Rusting problem are from Mumbai. Dunno if Mumbai Mirror is the same as Pune in dealing such Issues.

                            @ Shadowfax
Dude, did you give your Bike for 2nd Service? How's it performing now?

I guess there are around 6-8 people from Pune who have purchased a GSR. Is anybody from Pune experiencing such Issues?

                              yepi to that ...

Btw photon think its better for u take a buddy along...he does the talking while u do the checking...

Guru, it has to be with the manufacturing date and not the sold date. I think that is called the lot. I bought my GS on 27th May, that is 20 days before Patil and I have negligible rust in tank mouth. But yes, the stands have some more.... And I fear other parts will rust in future.
I noticed, those black colored parts have no anti-rust coating (or whatever) under the main paint. So when by any chance color is removed, that part gets rusted quickly.
Suzuki should at least re-paint those existing parts with needed care. This will be enough. I personally don't demand complete new replacement.
