  • My 15 days experience on Suzuki GS150R

Hello everyone, I know everyone remembers me, I'll give an introduction for the new members. I am Karthic from Coimbatore (Tamil Nadu). I got my black GS150R delivered on 19th june 2009. I must thank all the senior xbhp members for helping me to choose this bike. This is a great bike for a person like me. I am 185cms tall. It perfectly suits my need and i'm completely satisfied with this bike.

Guys sorry for being late, i remembered that i said i'll post my experience in a couple of days. I took nearly 15 days to post this msg. It is due to some busy schedule. I am not an experienced biker to give a complete review about this bike. I am just sharing my experience. I hope sharing something is much better than sharing nothing.

I bought this bike for Rs. 68120 INR. I spent Rs.40 for Indicator Buzzer. Rs. 2500 for fancy number (Actually it's my birthday number ). For number stickering and for a vinayagar sticker cost me Rs. 300. Rs. 1100 for Pricol Make Remote Lock with Immobilizer (The showroom guy said if you put remote lock, you won't get warranty for battery. I didn't take that to my head ). Seat cover, tank cover (Specially did according to my wish. It covered my tank knob with two layers) and vehicle full cover costs me 1440 bugs. It's quite good quality and it's useful for me. So totally i spent Rs. 73500 .

I didn't get anything additional from the showroom (GoldFinch Suzuki). I asked for ladies handle. He said we don't have one for this model . Even i had less than 1 lt of petrol in the tank when they gave the bike to me. When they gave the bike to me, They didn't tell me anything about the bike. They showed tools and manual and it was under my seat with full of water . They said it was due to water wash. I took it to my home and then to a vinayagar temple (Ganesh Temple) and while returning to my home i put petrol for Rs. 700 (15.8 lts). The bike was in pwr mode. I try to change the mode to eco. Hence the showroom guys didn't tell me anything about the bike, i can't able to change the mode to eco without refering my manual (After refering the manual i did it the next day). After the water is dried, i can see a lot of white marks produced by salt water. It looks terrible in my black GS. I wonder why they used salt water for waterwash.

In that remote lock, there is an option for remote start. In our GS the bike starts at any gear. Asume that you're parking your bike in a slop. your bike is in 1st gear. What happens if you try to start using that remote without using the clutch? It's quite dangerous right? If a small child gets my remote in his hand. I can't able to think further. So immediately i went where i fixed the remote lock with an ON\OFF switch and fixed it under my seat. That switch will activate and deactivate the remote start feature.

I learnt all the gearing mechanism within a weeks time. But still now i am worried about improper gearing (Especially Downshifts). Will it affect the engine?

Apart from that, everything is great. The bike is very smooth in low speed. But in high speed it gives too many sounds. That sounds really worried me. Gear shifting is smooth and gear shift indicator work flawlessly. The digital console is fantastic. I ride 50-60 kms every day. Now my odo shows 840. I didn't cross 5k rpm until now. Even i felt the 3.5k rpm vibes. For me the 3.5k vibes works as a gear shift assistance. One day while i am riding my bike in a rain, automatically the gear shifts from 2nd to 3rd. First i was surprised. Then i didn't belive that. Then i came to a conclusion that i might have pressed the lever by mistake. Then in the same day while i am riding, it came from 2nd to 0. This time i am very sure that it did by itself. Because my toe is not at all touching that lever. Any one faced this problem earlier?

The light produced by the headlight is not powerful. But as i'm riding this bike mostly in day time and in night time only in my city where all the street has light, i don't think of an upgrade now. When comparing to my kinectic honda, it is pretty good. Braking is not good in this bike (Especially rear brake). And front brake is more sensitive. Once when i applied both the brakes, i got skid and i put my bike down (Thank God, nothing happened). Whenever i applied front brake, i'm hearing a small tick sound from that brake lever. I heard that same tick sound whenever i released the front brake also. And while riding in high speed, i heard more tick sounds(It's not from the brake lever, It's coming from the center of the digital console). Any one faced this before? I have to report this to service center guys in first service. Apart from the various sounds it produces everything is ok.

Few guys in this thread discussed about the Engine chocking problem. Even i too felt that once in a while. I got approximately 48 kmpl -50 kmpl mileage (Average 49 kmpl ) in mixed conditions. It's a decent mileage. I ride only in eco mode. I haven't used pwr mode yet. I'll update after checking in pwr mode and after my first service is done.

I'll give 10mins rest to the engine every 15 mins ride. I think the engine is heating too much. Because the Engine cooling sounds is coming for a long time (even for 5 mins ride, it's cooling for more than 10 mins). Is it normal in all the GS? I'm going to ask this in my first service. I have planned to do it on monday (06/07/09). What all should i ask them to do it in my first service? Can anyone give me some suggestions?

        • Very very important

Hello friends, yesterday i recieved a call from suzuki showroom and they informed me to come and collect the RC Book. So i went today and got my RC book.

Then i take it to a xerox shop to take few xerox copies, there i noticed the model name mentioned in that book was not Suzuki GS150R. They have mentioned as Suzuki GT 125 Heat. What happens if i didn't notice that.

I was shocked and immediately call them. The girl in that showroom speaks very cool as if she knows everything. She told me "if you bring that RC book, we will change and give you". So i again went to the showroom. There when i showed the model name to her, she just acts as if she is surprised. But i can surely say that she knows everything. She said she will inform me when she gets it changed.

          My queries are

          1. Did the showroom guys do this purposely? ie if they do this and the person didn't noticed it properly, they do have benefits like reduction in tax, etc... Isn't it?

I am really confused whether they have registered my vehicle or some other heat motorcycle

          2. Can they change it without any trouble?
          3. If they can, will they take another 10 - 15 days?
          4. How many days can i ride my bike without RC book
          5. Can i threat them that i will go to consumer court regarding this?

Everyone please give me your valuable suggestions and guide me in taking necessory actions.

My dealer gave a full demo about the bike at the time of delivery. Using the digital console, REserve, Kick start on morning, opening the seat, self start blah blah blah.. It was informative

If it came to 0 from 2 does it give a jerk? (Obviously it should give if u suddenly come to neutral during the ride) I am asking this because it can be a bug...Make sure its an issue with gear or digi console?

Thats nothing to worry about... That tick sound makes the tail lamp to glow when u apply the brakes... Its a normal thing

I ride continously for an hour... since the engine is new it gets heated soon... dont worry, its normal... it will reduce as the services progress
DOnt worry about the cooling sound too buddy... everything is alright

1 liter of petrol while bike delivery is normal thing. HH gives 800ml for its 150cc bikes
That might not be the salt water, but may be detergent water. It must be cleaned with clean cloth as soon as wash is completed. that doesnt leave any watermarks.
GS150R does start in gear only when the clutch is engaged. So bike doesnt start even you try to start wtih electric start or with remote start. So dont worry if any one presses the button while your bike is in gear.
While downshifts, Let the RPM come down before you shift the gear to lower ones. Vibes are natural in all the bikes. And about rear brake, Its true that it isnt good.

My R15's RC has Model Name as Yamaha YZF R1 BS and Engine capacity as 998cc . That doesnt mean that I has paid 97K life tax for my R15. I paid 8K as life tax for R15.

This usally happens due to sleeping clerks in RTO. And getting it changed again is big headache. So, Insist on showroom guys to get it changed. Else it isnt much of a pblm.
Just check the tax amount paid on the RC to cross check.

                      @Bubble

I am not satisfied with the service offered from that showroom buddy. I didn't have 500 Rupee note. So i gave them Rs. 3000 for the fancy number. Still they didn't give me the balance 500 rupees. Everytime they are coming up with some strange reason. What to do with these guys?

And about that automatic gear shift problem. I had that problem twice only on that single day. After that i didn't have any issues like that. Yes i had that jerks in that 2nd to 0 shifts. Then only i checked the console and it shows 0. It is not the problem with that console buddy. I think the flaw should be in the gear shifter or in the gearbox.

And thanks for answering all my other queries buddy. Your answer is very clear that it is normal in all GS.

                        @Shadowfax

The remote lock kit is fixed under my seat. There is no possibility for rain water to go under my seat. I don't know whether it's wateproof or not. But i think small amount of water do no harm to that kit.

I went to Xenos (Pricol Company) showroom on 20th june 2009. They show 2 models. 1 is for 1000 rupees with external speakers and the second is for 1300 rupees with internal speakers. They said external speakers will be very loud and your battery drains fast. So i opted for the 2nd one with internal speakers which costs me 1300 Rupees. My friends brother works there. So he reduced 200 rupees from the mrp. I paid only Rs. 1100. It comes with 2 remotes. The kit has1 year complete warranty. They fixed it under my seat with in 30 minutes. They didn't charged anything for the installation.

                        It has so many features.
                        1. Remote lock
                        2. Remote Unlock
                        3. Alarm (You can use this to find your bike in a parking lot. It works for more than 100 feet).
                        4. Remote start
                        5. Remote stop
                        6. Immobilizer
                        7. In setting you can choose 5 levels of sounds. The sensitivity of the immobilizer also changes for each level. There is no voice in that sound. They said Pricol doesn't offer that.

It does use some extra battery. But you shouldn't use remote lock in night time when you park your bike in your home for more than 3-4 hours. In the morning use only kick start. This will be enough to save your battery. You get 1 year warranty for battery. If you install remote lock kit, you won't get that warranty. But i am damn sure that even after installing remote lock kit the battery will work for more than 1 year. So i didn't care much about that.

My friend too installed this same kit in his royal enfield bike. His bike starts only if it is in neutral. But our GS starts in any gear. In slops we have to park our bike in gear. In this case if we accidently press the remote start button, the bike jerks and move forward. If we parked in side stand our bike may get hurt.

I don't wanna take risk. So i went to an electronic shop. Bought an ON/OFF switch for 20 Rupees. Again went to xenos showroom. Explained the problem and i asked them to fix the switch to control remote start. They took another 15 minutes to do that.

If that switch is ON, we can start the bike using the remote. If that switch is OFF, we can't start the bike using the remote. If we press the start button in the remote, instead of starting, the bike gets ON position. Then we can use the self start button to start as usual. My friend is using that same kit for more than a year. Until now he didn't faced any problem with the kit or with the battery.

If you need more information about the remote lock kit, ask me. I'll check the manual and try to clear all your doubts.

Yes buddy i guess it's less than 1 lt of petrol. I don't know how much.

Yes you are right. The bike doesn't start without pulling the clutch if it's in gear. But it gives some jerks and moves forward. The bike may get hurt if it is in side stand. So i installed an ON/OFF switch to control that remote start features.

Remote Lock/Unlock serves the purpose of ignition key ? In real, we've to move the key to right and then bike gets 'ON' (orange LCD light) and to the left to make it 'OFF"... is the same done by remote ? (assuming handle is unlocked) So when u ON/OFF using remote, its keyless ?
Remote Start/Stop are of the engine ? Is it again keyless or not ?

                            • First highway experience

                              Hello all
I just came back from home this weekend and wanna share my first highway experience.

Before that congrads to Karthic2211 for the new bike.

I started on saturday morning at 5:06 am[bike timings] turned the trip meter on. The first 26 kms was a drive through country side road[Kundrathur-Sriperumbathur] that leads to chennai Bangalore highway. Was pretty controlled and rode at 60 - 70 Kmph. Then came the highway and started at around 80 - 85 and was maintaining. There were little signs of choking prob but i carried on. The first 50 km ride was rough and the engine was roaring, but got smoother and smoother as i crossed 60. There was one point of time i touched 93Kmph at 7Krpm. The bike was rock solid on highway. Little wind was there. The comfort was good. There was NO back pain when i reached home . But my butt was aching a bit. Dont know if this a prob with the seat. Reached home in 2 hrs [including 7 mins break].

Sunday evening i started at around 3:30pm. Started to vroom the engine since my home town was in the highway itself. Heavy opposite winds kept me at 75- 80 Kmph for the first 75Kms.... Now come the big part. I wanted to touch 100 and I did so once at 7.5Krpm. Then I was tempted to continue further and touched 110kmph at 8Krpm. Man that was a cool experience. And the bike was still solid and smooth. Felt little vibes in the handle bar and foor pegs. Immedately when i slowed down the bike went into reserve well below the expected milleage ... Calculating reserve to reserve my bike ran only 268 with 6 litrs. that comes to around ~45Kmpl.... Is this poor milleage on highway or is this because i touched 110 for a second.. If so then what is the optimum speed on highway to get decent milleage ??

When i entered the city the choking prob continued to choke me... Felt a little change in the engine sound and was worried If I sould'nt have touched 110 or even crossed 100... My bike has now 1350 in the odo. Will this cause an trouble ???

BTW today morning the ride to office was pretty OK. awaiting for your comments and suggestions.

One doubt! If I could touch 110 at 8Krpm then what would the speed be at >10Krpm ????

Its in the manual, ride below 7500 rpm up to 1600 km. Passing this once or twice should not cause any 'problem'. ITs okay- don't worry.
About choking- when I went to Mulshi ride, after shifting to RES, I felt very little choking jerks. THen I came home and the next morning I rode again on RES for 15 km to confirm if there is choking.. but surprisingly there was NOT AT ALL... Dunno why.. May be its something about the fuel supply to engine.. have to check.

And my Dio also gives similar choking prob.
