  • Lost the front tire valve cap and was shopping for metallic after-market valve caps when I found the Splitfire spark plug cord.
Bought it for Rs. 450 and also got golden valve caps for Rs. 40.
I am attaching the pics of the cable. Please comment

Somebody had commented that we cannot attach the cord to ignition coil. But it is possible. Ignition coil is placed under the Petrol tank . We must remove the tank and take out the ignition coil. Original cord will be tightly attached to the coil. Cut it and pull out the remaining portion with care. Insert the new cable and fix with adhesive.

After doing all this, what betterment do you expect from this cable? Remember, there was a criminal case against ‘Splitfire’ for making delusory claims about their products. I think, this kind of wastes are dumped in to this third world country of ours; India, where there is no one, even the judiciary, to question it.

Have you seen any scientific data, showing this cable will supply more current to the spark plug? Have you measured the resistance of this cable and the default one to calculate the difference in power supply?

Sooraj, everything is fair in war and love. Marketing is a war and any kind of tricks may be fair. But, as far as possible, keep out of gimmicks like A&B air filter or C&D exhaust or E&F engine oil or G&H spark plug cable will enhance the performance of your bike. If it is true, why are the bike manufacturers not using these products, even though there is cut throat competition among them?

By the way, in which country is that cable manufactured?

The fact is that I got carried away while shopping.
Also some one had mentioned earlier in this thread about this one..

But I see a chance of increased conductivity as the stock cable has single wire inside and the new one has numerous thin strands inside the covering, which may decrease the resistance.. (I guess)

Then, the last point is acknowledged

Hey bro....will this cable attaching make any difference....I am an ameteur in such sort of things....I really have no idea....
So if the ignition is improved.....will the mileage or power will improve...kindly let know....thanks....

          • With a low resistance cable, the power loss till the spark plug is reduced resulting in better ignition as more power reaches spark plug. The resistance increases with the decrease in the wire diameter, so thicker more better.

From Vishnu's comment its quite clear that the stock cable is already damn good. So by mere change of Ignition cable the improvement in mileage wont be noticeable.

It seems that the initial pickup has got smoother. But it may be a placebo effect. Will comment on FE later...

In case of AC current, as the wire thickness increase current flow will occur more around the outer portion and less through the core portion. This is called 'Skin Effect' (Thanks to Wiki)
So multiple strands in place of a single thick wire may be preferable.

The skin effect is not only due to A.C. Voltage but also due to the higher Voltage. Remember the Ignition Coil puts out anywhere between 15 to 30 Thousand Volts...A more useful cable will be the inductive spiral cable used in cars. This reduces the ignition noise radiation and also offers less resistance to the spark energy.Do not go for the Carbon Core cables as they fail with heat and repeated exposure to high voltage.
You may be able to pick up a used Inductive spiral cable from the local car used parts market for 50 or 60 Rupees per cable in good condition, which you can try as experiment.New ones for cars like Lancer will be upward of 800 Rs for a set of 4 cables.

The tuff up type is better but it is patented by HH and is available in their service centres only. They are good for small punctures caused by nails etc. but not for large ones.

                          • If you are serious about punctures, you can go for a tubeless tyre, a michelin sporty costs some 1850 fitted. Worth the money.
