Check your idle engine rpm, when the engine is cold it should be 1100 rpm. It will rise to 1500 once engine get warm. You have to raise the engine a little more while releasing the clutch. Try shifting after 4K rpm in lower gears. The engine rpm is reducing while shifting from 1st to 2nd, thats why you get neutral in between. Even now when i shift lightly from 1st to 2nd, occasionally I get neutral.

Another thing, both the M45 and M62 and Tubed Tyres and not Tubeless.
The stock size 100/90(18") means, 100 mm on broader side and 90 mm height rite. Sirac is 120/90, so its 1 cm more on either sides. I think this won't make contact with swing arm. But I heard only 17" is available. Is our stock Zapper radial tyre?

    • hi guys, am sri krishna from chennai!! a have a doubt regarding my beast! when i went to svc porur about a week ago, i got my tank replaced! and i reported about the low mileage which i was getting...n it was solved by the co tests and the mileage tuning..!! i was very happy and i was told that if i had to get good mileage then i should shift to 6th gear as soon as i reach 30 and continue after that by the mechanic who did the testing and i said ok and returned home...since then i am riding like that only..and today i decided to check my mileage after my bike hit reserve..!! i filled it for 1 litre n rode at the same way proposed by the mechanic(6th gear=30) and i did not cross 60...and the mileage i got was 47.2(in city) to be exact..now i hav filled another 1 litre and i am going to ride on my own way(shifting gears @ 4 rpm) and test it tomorrow probably..!! all u members please have your say and help me get a good mileage..!! and tell(teach) me rather how to ride...as am only 18.. !! am confused!! am asking you all these as i depend on my parents for petrol and i am a college goer..!! can't spend all my money on petrol..and i bought GS the main reason being mileage..!! your posts will help me save my money...thank you..

      • Hey man dont be so stiff, we all are just like you. I would list some tips to improve mileage.

        1. Check the tightness of chain every 1000 km.
        2. Check the tire pressure once in every 2 weeks.
        3. Accelerate smoothly in every gear.
        4. Change gears just above 4K rpm, since the gearing ratio is very high you can shift as early as 3.5K rpm. Keep engine rpm always between 3.5K-4.5K, shift down if it below 3.5K.
        5. Riding in proper gear gives better mileage.
        6. When the engine is cold, efficiency will be less, go easy for ~3 Km or so.
        7. Use top gear above 40 kmph

With these you will get a sure 55+ mileage on city conditions(solo). Let us know about your mileage after following these.

        • Anupdas, can u please guide me to a thread where I can learn the basics like the one you mentioned i.e. to check the stiffness of the chain.. I should know atleast how to do it right?

Its my pleasure to help you guys. I'm getting a true 60+ mileage following these

              @ Chirag
Of course everyone can do it. But I dont know a thread where the details are given. The checking procedure is given in manual.
Open the lower chain cover, try lifting the chain up using your finger around the middle point of chain. The recommended play is between 25 mm to 30 mm (around 1 inch).

In every 2 weeks I open the chain cover to clean the chain and check the tightness. Just within 2 weeks sand grains will get collected in the chain and will produce a grinding noise. The S.C people will just add oil through the window in the lower chain cover without every cleaning the chain. Its necessary to clean the chain if its tighten.

              • Guys.. Just sharing my thoughts. Why is this bike so less hyped..? I am using my friend's gs for a month on a daily basis, and i totally love it. I actually find it better than many of its competitors. For instance, its both quicker and faster than the most hyped 150 cc, the yamaha fz, (as per zigwheels), gives far far better mileage, best in class refinement and ride comfort. Even then, people doesnt recognize this bike. Not even a single proper review is there on the net. Why..? Why..? Why..?

                • Very true bro, When i decided to go for GS, my friends were giving me a weird look. Why spending so much money on this bike, why not Uni, Hunk or Xtreme. Currently Gs is the most under rated bike in 150 CC. IMO its the best of the lot, considering one's requirement.

I think you got me wrong, I didnt say its not possible to extract power from our engine. But just by detaching some wires it seems impossible to increase the power.

In supercharging we use a mechanism to increase the air flow. Unlike turbo there wont be any lag as its powered by engine itself, so more the engine rpm more the boost. But is it possible to fit one to ours? Will our Crank be able to sustain high load?

I too mentioned that in Fiero we can do wheelies at will, the front is very light weight unlike GS

It will be nice if you could upload the pic of your seat cover. After just 30 mins ride my butt is going numb and its killing the riding pleasure.

When I complained about my problems, the service manager took a ride, took bike inside, then, had the lower cap of the carb removed(not sure if you can remove it cross section wise....havent observed) and upon inspection and spotting of dust, stirred, wiped and emptied the dust along with as little petrol as was needed for the process(wetting the dust and rinsing, draining.....around 25 ml I think).

                        Dear friend,

I am most thankful that you have mentioned me too.

Anyway, your bike is not getting an uninterrupted fuel supply for carburetion. The fuel supply from tank to the plug need be checked. The mechanic has cleaned the carburettor chamber and I think he may have cleaned the jets also and as the problem persists, the most probable reason is the clogging in the fuel tank air vent. As you know, a free flow of air to the tank is necessary to allow a free flow of fuel. This air flow is restricted by the clogging.

To ensure, ride the bike for a while without closing the tank cap or when you feel the jerking, stop and open the tank cap and try to ride again. If the bike goes without jerking, the cause is this restricted air flow. So, ask the mechanic to clean the air vent. Do this and the jerking will be solved.

                        Love.

Here are some pics that might delight you, though they are taken from a 2MP camera,as my photographic camera batteries needed charge

Two great bikes side by side,Fiero and the GS150R.........Dad is at home !!!

Observe the mesh seat covering of the R15 on the GS

Supercharging is possible on the GS150R and you are absolutely correct about the doubt of the crank, its also bothering my mind ,but as it is we cannot learn swimming without being in the water,so we need to implement mods once and watch, while the parts are readily available.
Unlike Turbocharging which uses back pressure of the exhaust to force induction, which would been an ideal recipe for fried valves and blown pistons,Supercharging on the otherhand would be powered by electric motors to draw air into the bike and at higher revs, above 6000rpm,I plan to optimise the Supercharger, which would just kick in and send the sixth cog of the GS150R to a fast 10,000rpm rev limit pulling in some serious top end.The mainjet on the carburettor needs drastic increment, not just P220 or RTR180's mainjet but the ones used on Esteem ,to balance the A/F ratio at the end.............but it is a very costly and big and time consuming process to master Supercharging and optimising it for the GS150R...........hence it will take time and many litres of fuel and maybe many wires and this and that too.

So how did you talks with Jap engg go? Didnt hear anything after 18th?

There are many references in other threads about tuning except those with Fuel Injection. GS is delivering different mileages for different people. There may be numerous reasons for getting different mileage but a difference of around15 kms doesn't seem to add up. Thats when the discussion started.

By calling others compulsive, aren't you too closed to any new input? When we hear anything, we will compare with what we already know, use logic if its feasible and finally decide whether to accept or not. Tuning is not a rocket science, but it can be messed easily.

I felt like cheated when mechanics were trying to fox me with all kind of lame explanations when I asked to check for tappet clearance. Its nothing serious but its annoying to hear. I asked it during free service, since they have to do lot of work and virtually dont get anything, they said GS is nice bike it dont need tappet adjustments. When engine gets hot, the clicking noise is very annoying.

Please dont take me wrong, one can get respect by presenting in an assertive way but not by ridiculing.

                                Dear Anupdas,

First of all, HEARTY CONGRATULATIONS FOR GETTING THE JOB.

Then, let me say, I haven’t attained NIRVANA, but I am not a person seeking respect from others as, in my present condition as I think and hope that I have crossed that stage of mind, respect or disrespect makes no difference to me. Same is about presenting ideas or arguments in assertive way. Present ideas in assertive way, seek respect from others, try to be always in lime light, declare “I am the way, the truth and life; follow me and drink this magical potion I offer” and wash the hands as Pilate did is not the mode of my life.

Who is this ‘we’? Are you the power of attorney holder of all those who participate in this discussion? And are you the self proclaimed leader of this ‘we’?

I too have the same opinion about tuning. It is not a rocket science. But it must be done by an experienced mechanic, using certain tools or machines other than his ear. There should be some specific reasons to disturb the finely tuned carburettor; otherwise it will spoil the overall performance of the bike. That is why the bike manufacturers themselves ask you to keep away from carburettor settings. I am not a sadist to advice others to mess with their machines and to enjoy their ignorance.

The mechanic cannot be responsible for your feelings. He may have chuckled himself while hearing about the tappet problem. What he said is correct and I too have pointed out in one earlier posting that our bike is having automatic tappet clearance adjuster. You will be more convinced if you ask a service centre supervisor to show you the concerned parts of this bike. Unless doing so, you insisted the mechanic to adjust the tappet. What else can he do on hearing such foolishness other than chuckling himself?

And may I please point out that the clicking sound when the engine is hot is not tappet sound and the tappet moves in the same frequency of the engine RPM. Once again it convinces me that you – as many others – are not able to distinguish tappet sound.

You told that a mechanic told you that some bikes are re-tuned before selling. You claim that you will use logic to find out the acceptability of anything you hear. All the bikes kept in the garage of a vendor are not filled with engine oil and their batteries also are not fitted. Thus they cannot be ridden or even started. Then how did the mechanic find out that it's tuning is faulty and who allowed him to re-tune it? Is he still working in the same sc? My knowledge is that no mechanic is allowed to do major works like this in his own accordance. He is not allowed to replace a part – even a pin – without the permission of the supervisor. Then how was he able to re-tune the bike and that too without starting or riding it? Is he blessed with the ability to foretell what will happen later?

After all, who am I to ridicule you or any other? Anyhow, let us drop it.

                                Due regards.
