You can ask the dealer and its easy to track the manufacturing year from the papers and the sticker on the bikeOriginally posted by Jayantnarangkar View PostM getting my GS150R on 20 Jan 2011... Is it will be 2010 batch or 2011????
most probably it would be the 2010 model
am getting 62 kmpl on local bangalore i can surpass your record for sure if i try a long drive.Originally posted by venuvinodks View PostHello all...
today i surpassed maximum kilometers travel on GSR in 100 Rs. Petro(1.61 ltr). I had set trip meter to zero when i hit the reserve last time. Then bike has travelled 115 kmts when it hit reserve today. So the mileage comes to 71 kmpl
This is the best mileage i got ever on GSR. My ride consists of 60 % highway(NH 17) and mangalore city ride. speed ranging mainly between 35-60, occassionaly to up to 70 kmph. my earlier record was 67 kmpl in november.
@ Ram (2strokerama) last time i just loaded petrol from the old madras road Shell bulk at bypannahalli
thats it checking air on time and didnt played much with gears or the golden screw, you can buy 1 ltr petrol on a can and try testing with it

experienced brake locking for the first time in all the times Ive braked hard. It used to happen sometimes on my old two stroke but barely noticeable and never at such speeds. Braked from around 60 kmph, 40:60 but rear locked up for a couple of seconds and started going sideways, and no sooner did I get scared I was gonna fall than I took my foot off the rear pedal and pressed it again....it unlocked and I regained control. Instinct took over completely for those 2-3 secs....I felt like I was simply a spectator as instinct did all the work. I come back home and read up on brake locking and that is almost what is described to come out of it. Luck or something else?
@guru_007: Even I used to trust this bunk. All this golmaal is going on or atleast become obvious from past few weeks.Bro...that's really shocking...I always thought that the shell petrol bunks were the best...espeically in Bangalore.....I am orginally from bangalore now staying in Hyderabad....and as I used to stay in mahalakshmi layout... i used to fill at the shell bunk near the iskon circle.....but at that time i felt it was good...and after coming here too i preffered shell as I felt the petrol quality better....
But as in hyderbad there are not much shell bunks near my area I started for HP or Indian Oil.....but I this is really shocking to know that they are cheating in shell....
@msn1: you live near byappanahalli? Lucky guy, in a couple of months metro is gonna start running from that area which means reduced traffic......lucky guy.

sanjukoli12: Yes i make it a habit for pillion also to ride helmet, even if it is intercity rides.
Madhu - yes carrying bike papers & first aid kid
I am not a beliver in god, i am in for the long sceneric ride. My better half wants to visit Shirdi, otherwise i was planning for Mahabaleswar.
I am lucky to have a wife who is equally passionate about riding, She doesn't mind me touching 100kmph occasionally.
Brought a new saddle bag for this trial trip, plan for more longer trips in near future.

The GSR has a 150cc engine while the Karizma has a 225cc engine.Originally posted by Sumitdey1 View Post
How do you guys rate the GSR against the HH Karizma?
Thats all,
GSR and Karizma are evenly weighed when it comes to touring.
Karizma having a bigger mill, can sustain better top end speeds of cruise..........GSR can too sustain higher top end than almost all air-cooled 150cc bikes and for a long time(for hours together),but top speed is lower than Karizma.
GSR on the contrary is far more smoother, fatigue free and Fuel-efficient than Karizma.Hell's Angel

Totally agreed with Mach on this, you can't just start comparing totally different class of bikes, Karizma is 220cc and gixxer is 150cc, but still taking in consideration the amount of money we throw to get somewhat better cruising speed(costly bike+less mileage), I guess gixxer will be a sure winner offcourse......

Hi guys,
I tested the mileage of my bike twice today, I brought two 1L bottles of petrol and went on a four lane for some bike time, when it hit reserve I poured one bottle completely into the tank and then started and drove the bike on 60kmph in 6th gear till it hit reserve again, and I was shocked that even though I didn't revved the bike or redlined, still I was only able to drive 42km, so I tried again, and emptied the second bottle, this time the I just revved the bike at 120 the whole time, and it ran 45km, this shocked me a little bit more since I heard guys saying drive slowly to get better mileage, now I am totally confused how to drive to get better mileage from this bike, and if its just giving 45kmpl, then I guess buying apache 180 will be a better option for me since its also giving the same mileage and comfort with better pickup.....

Hi mini gixxians
Hey guys back to work after Xmas hols
...
Mileage talk seems to be the talk of the day...
Firstly I have always stated 50+ kmpl however I drive the bike (BTW my bike stays OFF always at traffic stops of more than 15 secs)
My cousin who was driving my bike during my hols has not filled in any petrol yet...
Due to reserve I had filled 150/- Premium + 180/- "Sada" normal petrol...roughly 3lts...
Now my cousin has travelled 270 kms since my absence... and it has not yet reached reserve
...
Hence my mileage: ~55kmpl >>
Impressive considering his driving style
@2strokeRama: Better you fill from a reputed outlet (big, having multiple pumps & with a shop preferably)...I always had a good driving experience with Indian oil
>> Also try travelling with just 6lts petrol (2/3bars) in tank and 25/33 tyre psi...My 50/50 petrol mix has always given me good performance...infact the engine nearing 29K ODO feels open, high revving and easily shooting to 6K+ RPM vibe-less
@Anupdas: How is your first job going man
My company has posted me to Noida HQ

from next month, though I had opted for Kerala (to be with parents) or Chennai/Bangalore as last resort
Also I have to pass my ?#*@$ CCIE lab in 4 months or they are going to ?*#@! me
...
So Welcome to the mad world of the working man
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
But then, my hippo will soon be in Noida
Question guys:
Q1> Is it safe to transport a bike from Chennai to Noida by Train as Parcel
Q2> Or is transporting with luggage by truck the better option

& Mach50: I know that Karizma is 225cc & GSR 150cc. I was not comparing on the power but the seating position, comfort on long drives, reliability & driveability in all terrains, etc. I always thought that Karizma was the best looking & performance seeking Sports bike made in India.Originally posted by Gagan0123 View PostTotally agreed with Mach on this, you can't just start comparing totally different class of bikes, Karizma is 220cc and gixxer is 150cc, but still taking in consideration the amount of money we throw to get somewhat better cruising speed(costly bike+less mileage), I guess gixxer will be a sure winner offcourse......
However have realized from online that it is also the best tourer (Other than Bull). Hence, thought for a comparison.
BTW, Yawn...
now leaving shortly for the Shirdi trip...

Im one up over you, I dont fill more than 2 ltr above reserve.
Ill have to try the mix sometime.
On that note, @ all: On a trip last week, I set the tripmeter at reserve and 110 kms into the ride, tank went dry.....I was shocked that gaadi had drank 3.5 ltr petrol for just 110 kms, then realised there is some unusable reserve. So, how much is the usable reserve of our bike?
@sumitdey: have a safe trip man.

Replaced Stock Bulb with Osram Silverstar 55/60W
Today, i replaced my GSR's Philips 35W Bulb with Osram Silverstar 55/60W Bilux H4 Bulb. I have replaced the 2 Pilot/Parking Bulbs with 2 White LED's.
The Shopkeeper did not know how much Watts these LED's consume.
Do all LED's consume only 1W ? I have not made any other Wiring changes.
Is this Setup Alright ? Do i need to make any other Modifications ?
Hope there is no Risk running with this Setup.

The only way to test mileage is to supply a small quantity of fuel to a dry carburettor from a jar meant for it. Borrow one from the sc and check the mileage with 300-400 ml of fuel in it.
Limit the engine rpm to 1500-1600 when it is hot (not warm). Shift to the upper gear at the earliest and shift down at the latest. Ride in upper gears however low the speed may be, without engine knocking. Your bike is more than 25k kms old. So some periodical maintenance works may be pending. Anyhow, check the mileage in the above manner and let us know the result.Last edited by vishnukmd; 01-08-2011, 03:13 PM.
