thanks for your reply... but a hole is a hole whether on stiffening member or downtube.. water might enter and end up in rusting.. is it common for all GS?

Also, during sudden stops downshifting while slowing down is not easy. in my victor stop during an emergency and bring down all the way from 4th.. utterly butterly... but in this GS150(vibrato)R , the whole world comes to know....

regarding idling wil set to 1400 when engine is hot..

hope things settle as times pass by
regarding down-shifting i too faced same problem before second service,
    > just follow this tip
in sixth gear if you want to apply brake to complete stop... just apply the brakes dont press the clutch till engine speed reduces to 2000 to 2500 rpm then apply the clutch and change the gears. you will get better shifts

          Iam Dhiwakar from chennai.

I have been reading xbhp GS150 posts for the last one month.

as things go by my wife was also impressed about the looks of the bike and was hellbent on buying this... Honouring the judegement of the supreme court finally i bought my black GS150 from Chennai (ABT) last week. The sales guy Mr. Ramkumar was courteous and everything was fine till i took delivery.

Actually i feel like crying out loud after buying this bike

While the bike feels comfortable for my 95 kgs 6ft frame, other things leave a lot to be desired

          1. The downshifting of gear is a great headache. When you stop suddenly in 6th gear due to emergency, shifting the gers down becomes a great headache.. The gears do not shift down easily and the whole world comes to know that iam downshifting...

          2. The bike has to be called GS 150(vibrato)R.. the vibrations are felt at your crotch at 2.5k rpm, when you sit close to the tank.. heavenly though!!!

          3. idle vibrations are felt at the footpegs at 1.75k rpm.. the bike when starting early morning is at 1.25k rpm and ride it for 5 minutes and stop at signal, the idling is at 1.75k rpm

          4. The vibrations are felt at 2.5 krpm and 3.5k rpm is universal problem

          5. the odo shows 523 kms till date and i have crossed 4.5 k rm only once , and brought back below that once i noticed the blinker

6.The bike has petrol choking problem.. when i took the bike to Tiruttani (80 kms from chennai) the bike around 55 kmph started giving choking problems as if there was no petrol.. i was well within limits and to cover a distance of 80 kms took approx 3 hours (20 kms city and 60 km highway riding)

          7. mileage is at 42 kms/litre.. i refilled at TVS petrol bunk in chennai which is the benchmark for quality and quantity in chennai

8.As reported by others the headlight is pathetic.

          9. shock absorbers in the rear give tiktik sound when going through bumps...maybe due to my weight the shockers are working over time

          10. Chain slack is already there..

          11. Also as somebody pointed out the weld quality is bad with lumps of metal at the welds and there is a hole also on the downtube..

My 2002 victor GL which had run approx 1.3 lakhs kilometer was far better than this..no gearshift problems.. super headlights and good ride comfort.. i ahd changed the shock absorbers and clutch plate(first time since 2002) 1 year back. Rear tyre was changed twice and the machine was running with OE tyres in the front(dont know why it has not worn out still) and could have carried on well for atleast another 5000 kms...

i traded my victor for this GS150(vibrato)R ...

somebody tell me whether this is the same with all GS150(Vibrato)R's.

Now, i am not against suzuki .. it is my real experience iam telling you....

          Hi Buddy!!!!
Mr. Ram Kumar was my sales guy indeed... As u said, very courteous, polite and was honest about the positives as well as negatives of this bike...

About vibrations, I feel the other indian bikes including unicorn gives out more vibes, after getting used to this bike.
@ 3.5 to 4k rpm, its not vibrations, it is a sort of resonance.

Today i had a chance to ride a p220 dtsi. I felt the engine very rough and some amount of vibes...

Coming to mileage, even i am getting only 38 or 40 kmpl...

Since, i am satisfied whit the service, i hope it should improve aft 1 or 2 services..

Headlights are not that good I agree. Since I had a chance to interact with the Japanese and the Suzuki India GM, I'll put forward this issue when the GM comes to Chennai again. He promised me to inspect my bike on his next visit.

Leave ur worries n enjoy the ride...

Hey dhiwakar, most of your complaints seems to be very strange and abnormal. Hence you are not new to geared vehicals, i am sure you know more than me. You are saying that the vibes start at 2.5k rpm. I haven't heared about that before. My bike give vibes exactly at 3.5k rpm and i accepted as you mensioned 3.5k rpm vibes are universal problem.

Breaking and headlight is not upto the mark. I agree with that. Yesterday evening i went to maruthamalai temple. While returning back to the city, first time i felt that the headlight is poor. I struggled a lot to come down from the temple.

Few members discussed about engine chocking problem. I too faced that problem few times. These all are universal problem. Apart from that i faced your 9th and 10th problem. That tik tik sound coming from the center of the digital console. I think something is loose and needs to be adjusted. It's not the big thing. The chain also needs some adjustment. Regarding mileage, i am getting around 48 kmpl in eco mode. Haven't tried in pwr mode. I had automatic gear shifting problem twice on a particular day. Tomorrow i am going to give my bike for 1st service. I'll ask them to check everything and let you know whether it's solved or not.

My question is, did they let you to choose your bike. If so, i think you have opted the faulty one. Because most of your problem is not same with all GS. They showed me 4 bikes. I choosed 1 from those 4 bikes. I tested and ride it for few minutes and then only i booked it. But don't worry. You have covered under warranty period. Tell all your complaints in your first service. I think most of your problem will be solved in your first service. Don't worry buddy wait until your first service is completed. Then complaint about the bike.

Yes. It is from xenos technology. The model is Firewall- 45 (Two Wheeler Alarm + Remote Start System). In it's warranty card, they have given a point which will be the answer for your question. I'll give that point below.

                  "This warranty is automatically void
                  1. If the product has been damaged by accident, unreasonable use, neglect, water entry, improper service or other causes not arising out of defect in materials or construction."

I fully read that user guide. I can't find any information that it is waterproof or resistence. The above point is in warranty card. It clearly says that it is not waterproof. I think rain water can't go inside. Don't worry about it. Any way i'll confirmed this as soon as possible from my friends brother who works there and let you know soon.

I've attached the pics of remote, main kit, ON/OFF switch, manual and user guide with this post. Check the pics for Clarification.

mathew sir, vibes might be more on other bikes.. but still i miss my victor.. not that victor had no vibes.. the same engine resonance at 3.5 k rpm which we are talkingabout in GS was there in my victor between 50 to 55 km speed on my victor, not earlier.. also vibrations were there only when you cross 60... hmm....

i had a chance to inspect 7 bikes before chosing one... but all were just received by the showroom a day before i selected. hence could not drive and select.. it was lying in the godown space below the showrom..

Yes i took the test drive.. but the bike was better .....

regarding 2.5k rpm vibes.. please sit very close to the tank with the tank touching your crotch... you will never want to leave that 2.5k rpm again... heavenly vibes...

i remember taking my victor in 2002 to marudamalai(was working in coimbatore then) just after 3 days of purchase from Indo shell (trichy road).. the bike did not have any issues.. but GS finds wanting in power when you climb Padi flyover in chennai.. might be iam looking too much into the RPM meter without allowing engine to freely rev

will be giving my bike for 1s service hopefully next week. the odo has already crossed 560 km ....lets hope for the best

                        • I did a 330 kms round trip in two days on Vesta, my orange GS. Here is a quick report on the trip as well as the performance of bike.

I went to Shrivardhan to visit a mathh there for Gurupournima, accompanied with my better half. I took the route Chandni chowk-Mulshi-Tamhini Ghaat -Vile-Mangaon-Sai-Mhasala-Shrivardhan. 90% of the road is in good condition. Only 10% is patched/under construction. While going on monday morning, there was absolutely no rain. The bike is around 250kms old, so I was keen not to rip it. I don't believe much in slow running in though. I kept the RPM varying enough. Didn't go above 80, but was varying in 65-80, at surprisingly low rpms. Stopped at Quickbite, then at Nijampur, and then at mathh. It took around 3.5hrs to cover 165kms, including the two brakes.

After reaching there, some times later the rain gods showed up in full glory, and it started raining cats and dogs. It rained so hard so continuously, oh god! In night, my bike even toppled over because of the mud washing below it However, it showed the quality of Suzuki bike, that there is hardly any scratch to tell a tale about the fall. Lesson learnt: Never park on main stand on any road other than tarmac.

Next day continued same story with heavy rains. However we had to leave as I had to attend office today. We left at 4pm, a few hrs later than I would have liked. The target was to reach city before sundown, thanks to the pathetic headlight. It was raining so heavily, some 20+ waterfalls (not counting the little ones) on the way back! We rode continuously through blazing rains for 2.5 hrs, stopped for a quick break and then again for 2 hrs, to finally reach home at 8.30. We spotted The reason I was riding so large distance is, it was raining and the atmosphere was quite cool, so I was not worried about engine overheat. Here are some observations on bike and the gear I have used in the trip.

                          1. The bike is built for touring. So damn comfortable for the rider, after the 4+hrs ride, I was not tired at all. I have changed the handle position a bit by pulling it slightly to the rider (by Suzuki serviceman).

                          2. Shock absorbers work great. I can vouch for this after riding over the patched roads

                          3. Engine is very smooth, but makes a noise on riding uphill. Also, if you ride at constant rpm uphill, you will feel the trademark running-out-of-petrol pulls. But nothing life threatning, these last hardly a microseconds each.

                          4. Horns are a big plus. Pedestrians, animals, other vehicles, all pay good attention once the horn starts blowing

                          5. Weight is a plus. Can't belive I am saying this, but yes. Tackiling the crosswinds and riding through flowing/stagnent water is much more comfortable on this heavy bike than it was on my Caliber 115.

                          6. The tires grip well. Never once did I feel the lack of grip by the tires, on the wet and muddy roads.

                          Now some -ves:

                          1. Pillon seat is good for views, but somehow my wife was very tired after the trip, and she is still recovering. Maybe the back seat is not that soft. We will use some cusion for backseat for future long rides.

                          2. There are some scratches on the back panel due to rubbing of the cycle lock I use to keep the helmets on bike. Don't know whether this is my fault or the rear plastic used is not good.

                          3. Headlights. They are so pathetic, I might as well carry a torch with me till I find some solution for them! Seriously, once this particular problem is gone, the bike will be a perfect tourer.

                          Some information about my gear:

                          1. Hein Gericke Timbuktu Air jacket: This jacket has a removable liner for rain/winter, and is mesh outside, making it a full year jacket. It's waterproofness was tested yesterday, and it covered full marks! Also, the chill is blocked by the liner, so you will not be cold at all.

                          2. Vega helmet: My trusty helmet since 6 years! I know it is time for a change now. Also there is some born design flow, which makes right backside of my head sore after 1+hr of riding. The next thing on list to upgrade.

                          3. Teknic gloves: Not as comfortable as my previous 100rs gloves, but I am giving them time to run-in.

                          4. Fox knee guards: These are not bionic, but usual ones. Once fitted, they didn't need re-adjusting, and didn't touch the tank or anything.

                          5. Local skating knee guards (used by wifey): Used to be my kneeguards before the fox ones were gifted. Work perfectly. They are bit uncomfortable in first few rides, but later on they fit perfectly. Only gripe: they don't cover the sheen (below the knee), only knees are covered.

                          4. Crampbuster: this little device that is fitted on the accelerator, so that you control the accelerator by your palm and not by gripping it, is a great reliver. I used it while going, didn't use it while coming back as it was raining. The comfort added is definitely worth the price. Not available in India (as long as I know), but order it from US/ebay. It is worth the 300-400rs I paid for it.

                          5. Duckbag jacket + pants: Absolutely waterproof, even on the run. Only thing is, you have to cover the jacket chain properly, and pull the pants way up before sitting on the bike, so that water doesn't seep up through the waist area (which happened to me yesterday)

                          Some observations about the ride:

                          1. Riding in rain is really fun, especially when you are dry inside. I personally hate getting wet inside (mainly in crotch area).

                          2. Ride in day, so that even in case of emergency, you have full day in front of you to sort things out. If something is screwed at evening or night, then it is very difficult to get sorted out.

                          3. Learn to remove tires/punctures. After my last trip getting extended by 2 hours because of stupid punctures, I went to a local tirewalla, paid him 40 bucks, and learned how to remove the tire and remove the tube. It's not difficult, and I am not planning to start a puncture removal shop. I only need to learn to remove the tire, remove the nail or anything sharp in it, replace the tube, fill the air and move on. These things take anywhere between .5 to 2 hours depending on your luck, if you can't do it yourself. Suzuki has provided all the tools for this, only things needed are a spare tube, 2 large screwdrivers for removing the tire and an air pump. The foot pump I have is very tiresome to use, however it is kept for emergency only. Need to buy the screwdrivers

                          4. Never skimp on the clothing gear. Just decide to yourself what you will prefer, a 7 day leave and hospital bill, or a riding jacket and safety gear?

Oh god, this is one monstrous post! Thanks for taking time to read. Comments are welcome

                          • Side box fitting

                            Dear All

Has anyone fitted side box to GS? i went to a accessories dealer and after looking at the bike he said that fitting side box is not possible...

Also, has anyone noticed that on the left arm rear swing arm, the chain cover does not fit in properly as the cover moves towards the engine??? ther is a gap of around one inch both above and below the swingarm at is closest point near the engine...

is this common in all GS?

Man... What i feel is that u were very unlucky

Idle rpm should not be above 1.5k...Its even in the manual... You should have contacted the dealer immediately...

You would have surely test drove the vehicle before buying it... did u notice any vibes at 2.5k rpm with the test drive bike?.. If no then y didnt u ask the dealer about the vibes at 2.5k rpm to him?

except for the headlight and vibes at exactly 3.5k rpm there is nothing wrong with this bike.... I am hoping that even the 3.5k thing will almost disappear after 2nd service

Leave the braking part... I am yet to complete my 2nd service.. Braking has improved a lot... I will say its getting awesome ... My cousin who has an apache said that my brikes were very good after riding my bike...

You should have asked for another new bike the very next day to the dealer after getting this issues...

chain covers are rigid in my bike (ofcourse once i removed it to apply oil but still its rigid)

where is the gap? is it between swing arm and chain cover or somewhere else...
