I just came back from home this weekend and wanna share my first highway experience.

Before that congrads to Karthic2211 for the new bike.

I started on saturday morning at 5:06 am[bike timings] turned the trip meter on. The first 26 kms was a drive through country side road[Kundrathur-Sriperumbathur] that leads to chennai Bangalore highway. Was pretty controlled and rode at 60 - 70 Kmph. Then came the highway and started at around 80 - 85 and was maintaining. There were little signs of choking prob but i carried on. The first 50 km ride was rough and the engine was roaring, but got smoother and smoother as i crossed 60. There was one point of time i touched 93Kmph at 7Krpm. The bike was rock solid on highway. Little wind was there. The comfort was good. There was NO back pain when i reached home . But my butt was aching a bit. Dont know if this a prob with the seat. Reached home in 2 hrs [including 7 mins break].

Sunday evening i started at around 3:30pm. Started to vroom the engine since my home town was in the highway itself. Heavy opposite winds kept me at 75- 80 Kmph for the first 75Kms.... Now come the big part. I wanted to touch 100 and I did so once at 7.5Krpm. Then I was tempted to continue further and touched 110kmph at 8Krpm. Man that was a cool experience. And the bike was still solid and smooth. Felt little vibes in the handle bar and foor pegs. Immedately when i slowed down the bike went into reserve well below the expected milleage ... Calculating reserve to reserve my bike ran only 268 with 6 litrs. that comes to around ~45Kmpl.... Is this poor milleage on highway or is this because i touched 110 for a second.. If so then what is the optimum speed on highway to get decent milleage ??

When i entered the city the choking prob continued to choke me... Felt a little change in the engine sound and was worried If I sould'nt have touched 110 or even crossed 100... My bike has now 1350 in the odo. Will this cause an trouble ???

BTW today morning the ride to office was pretty OK. awaiting for your comments and suggestions.

One doubt! If I could touch 110 at 8Krpm then what would the speed be at >10Krpm ????

Dont worry about the mileage thing... Since you have been pushing the bike above 6k rpm most of the time the mileage seems to be less... For optimum mileage we need to maintain below 5.5k or 5k rpm...

I am yet to touch 10k rpm buddy... so no comments on it

      • Hi Guys,

I know I have lots of time (1st July) to buy the bike and the more I keep searching the more I am confusing myself.

Now have a look at this
SUZUKI GS 150 R Complaints - KNOCKING OF ENGINE

I take an auto to my office from MiraRoad to Andheri (~ 20 Km) may be twice or thrice a week and all that time I keep checking the bikes that vroom past the auto.
I have still not seen a single GS go past me. And I've seen only 2 GS parked till date on the road. I think I am thinking a lil too much, but even here there are only a few owners (say < 15) and most of them (except Sam) have complaints abt the bike. The only promotions I see are on BEST buses.
I remember once I went to Oberoi mall and saw 2 Yamaha R15's put on for display/demo. People were sitting/touching and asking the representative all abt it. Never see anything like that in GS case. Whats up with the Suzuki guys. Dont they want to sell the bikes?

About choking- when I went to Mulshi ride, after shifting to RES, I felt very little choking jerks. THen I came home and the next morning I rode again on RES for 15 km to confirm if there is choking.. but surprisingly there was NOT AT ALL... Dunno why.. May be its something about the fuel supply to engine.. have to check.

And my Dio also gives similar choking prob.
This choking prob does not comes some times in my bike. I used to wonder why sometimes its not coming. I have the same doubt about the fuel supply. Probably there is some block somewhere in the carburettor ... do let me know after you have a check

I was in the normal riding posture. My bike touched 80 at 6Krpm 6th gear, and 100 at 7.5K rpm. People who crossed 100 Kmph can you please update the rpm range ???

Ya this bike has a lot of complaints I agree. But many or all here are yet to regret for choosing this bike. That makes a diference. I presume you have read sams review fully. Yamaha is after oohs and aahs and vrooms. In India practicality is what matters and that is satisfied by this bike. Yamaha is after performance, GS is a commuter[for daily office goers like me who look for comfort, milleage, driving pleasure]. You can never get that in the R15. My project Manager has an R15, complains about deep pains from shoulder to the palms since the riding posture is like that. After riding GS i tried my friends FZ, but nothing can compare to the comfort GS provides.

I was yet to see a GS on road even a month after buying. that was pretty bad but now I've seen some.

          • Friends,
Has anyone tried installing a 55/60w halogen bulb instead of a stock 35/35w bulb.I have installed a Philips 35/35w ,but want more light. Can the bike's electricals handle this.
I know the reflector's life will be less & might loose out on warranty & so on.
Please let me know.I am also going to give it a try this weekend.

Yes i agree i buy this bike , for comfort, mileage, driving pleasure,I got 2 of the things sure, and about mileage i did'nt check properly, yet to do after my filled tank come to reserve(my odo 2450km now),Here in my small city over 10 GS150R sold so far,100kmph at 7.5k is not a true speed due to speedo error(most of bike has) ,may be 90kmph is correct.Due to shape of tank when u fill it consume more(atleast 20ltr capacity, after 90 percent fillup ,the 10 percent remaining is taking lot of time to fill due to empty space is filled late(shape)).Now after completing 475km one dot reduced in fuel gauge from full....

Sorry bro little busy with office work.I got your message, but what query did you out in regarding the tyre?? I seriously dont remeber this,it would be kind if you please repost the query.

Sorry once again, just back tracked a little & found your query.I have just changed the rear tyre to a M45,the front remains the Zapper FS.It costed me Rs.2400/- excl the tube as I used the same tube which my stock tyre had.
Got the tyre from Metro Tyres Grant Road, this shop is just in the next lane where I live.If you are planning to come down, just let me know.

I enquired with all the Michelin dealers regarding this tyre but none had it & hence had no option but to buy it from him.

Its a 4.00 X 18" tube type tyre.It is a direct fit & no modifications have to be done. The 3.00 X 18" will be a thin tyre for this huge machine . The stock tyre size is 100/90/18 & this being 4.00 X 18 is little fatter say 105-110/90/18.Planning to change the front tyre to M62 once its available.

Also can you help me out regarding the lights query that I have put forward.

buddy i would have replied but i dont like to answer until i am damn sure of what i am saying .....
anyways .... as per the things i think i know.... you should not do this..
the bikes electricals MAY not be handle things

i was thinking on this lines .... comparing it with the zma - r
but due to the fights or inconvenience caused due to me over here i stopped it...

you can compare both bikes electricals ... and if you find it to be same... go for it .....
i think mr ssivakumar knows something on this .... he might be of help as well

MY final verdict... no it cannot be done without harming the electricals and reflectors

Buddy u live at Grant Road and bought the bike from Malad.
You could have gone to Laxmi Suzuki which is in Andheri(W).
I guess maybe you must be frequenting malad and hence Malad Suzuki , right?
BTW , I saw this bike for the first time at GrantRoad itself. I was shopping for some computer parts at lamington and thought of having that tarbuz ka juice near grant road station. Just at that corner is a bike's dealer (dont know exactly the shop name, but there are a lot of tyre shops in that line), there stood this beauty. Thats where I started fancying this bike.
You could've bought it form there! but when I search for a dealer on the suzuki india site there's only MaladSuzuki and LaxmiSuzuki(Andheri). I think It'll be good to buy from one of these only.
I will be going to LaxmiSuzuki soon for a test ride
