its simple... after engine is turned on just press the clutch and then press the start button... u will hear the stater motor's sound clearly... dunno about other bikes... but this is safe as the starter motor is not engaged with the gear mounted on flywheelOriginally posted by alkemyst View Postsorry if i couldnt get u properly.. but i have a doubt..
if the engine is running then wat does the start button do? and how did u find out that the start button works wen engine is on?
*am a newbie so u have to bear with my stupid questions*

I remember that my 180 ug2's starter worked even with the engine running If it was in neutral or when the clutch was pressed. Haven't tried in any other bike thoughOriginally posted by hyderabadi_nawab View PostGuys,
Generally, electric starters don't work when the engine is running. Pushing the start button does nothing. It is not the case with GS -- it even operates even while the engine is running. Have any of you observed this. Is this a flaw? Is it safe (for the starter and the engine)?

Hi guys.... 1250 on the ODO and still going fine
I have come across this situation in GS.... I am not sure whether this is common on all other bikes... Ok... here is the scenario
Whenever i pull out the bike from my garage(in the morning) or from a parking lot, the disc brake lever seems to be very loose... Its so loose that it seems to touch the handle bar
When i start the bike and start moving the lever seems to be tight and its normal
What the hell is happening here? I dont know much abt bikes
Need an expert here

given its refined engine and relaxed 70-75 kmph cruising abilities (thanks to its 6-speed gearbox), a great combo would be this engine / gearbox mated to a cruiser body, e.g. the yamaha enticer.
while, the rtr etc are quite exciting, i've been on rx100s and rx135s for close to 12 years now. been there, done that. i would now prefer a relaxed ride simply for the pleasure of riding without the need to get ahead every time the signal goes green, and not be "on the edge" every second of my ride.
now a refined relaxed cruiser is my objective. if only suzuki would do a bajaj, and plonk this same engine/gbox combo on a cruiser chassis. i would line up.
b.t.w., is it possible to plonk this engine/gearbox in an enticer ?There once was a woman who was quite begat.
She had three babies named Nat, Pat, and Tat.
She said it was fun in the breeding,
But found it was hell in the feeding
When she saw there was no tit for Tat.

have heard a pulsar engine fit on enticer's body!!!Originally posted by hell_glider View Postgiven its refined engine and relaxed 70-75 kmph cruising abilities (thanks to its 6-speed gearbox), a great combo would be this engine / gearbox mated to a cruiser body, e.g. the yamaha enticer.

but brother i think u need to get it done from a chasis expert
i dont think it will be a direct fit
but for question,,,,,,,,, yeah i think it cud be doneHope is a good thing ,

dont u find it a little underpowered for a cruiser? i mean, as a normal cruiser will weigh more, it will need more power to pull that heavy body.. and watever output the engine is giving for GS, it will never be the same but lesser for a cruiser body..Originally posted by hell_glider View Postwhat would be the issues one would face, if it was to be done ? any ideas ?
i guess the less powered engine is the reason yamaha enticer is not as popular as avenger..
u can try for an extra cruiser gear for an avenger if u find a good mechanic who understands the heart and beats of the bike properly..
EDIT: my mistake.. dint know tht enticer is much lighter than the GS.. my above queries/explanations/suggestions dont hold true now

ya you are right... but the engine has to satisfy another requirement of cruiser that is HIGH LOW END TORQUE (2000 to 3000 rpm) this is important because we like to drive our bike in high torque region... thats why as Sam told our GS cruises like butter at speed of 85-90kmph (6500 rpm @ 6th gear)Originally posted by alkemyst View Postdont u find it a little underpowered for a cruiser? i mean, as a normal cruiser will weigh more, it will need more power to pull that heavy body.. and watever output the engine is giving for GS, it will never be the same but lesser for a cruiser body..

its a speed of engine of maximum torque (as per engine specification
)
Cruisers has special characterstics like having peak torque at low engine speed... so it will be very smooth at that speed range which make us to ride at speed at such low rpms which will produce a CUTE thump
BUT our GS has high low end torque (one can cruise 25kmph @ 5th gear) instead of putting GS engine in enticer chassis you can do few modifications(change in handle bar, foot pegs and gear lever position) you can get almost cruiser like bike
(just my opinion)

whatever u said is rite but gs body how much ever altered cannot become a cruiser likeOriginally posted by ssivakumar.r View Postya you are right... but the engine has to satisfy another requirement of cruiser that is HIGH LOW END TORQUE (2000 to 3000 rpm) this is important because we like to drive our bike in high torque region... thats why as Sam told our GS cruises like butter at speed of 85-90kmph (6500 rpm @ 6th gear)

hey friend i suggest avenger 200 rather than doing all these thingies
i heard avy200 is also a cool bike,,,,,,, one of the goodies of bajaj
but u can ask in ownership thread
i dont know...... just a suggestion
and for that matter y not a bull
but at higher speeds u get vibs in it and kudos to bikes like uni n gs for such pleasure even at high speedsHope is a good thing ,

ya avenger behaves like cruiser only till 60kmph... then it will behave like normal bike (similar to p200) with few vibrations as you saidOriginally posted by outworldly maniac View Postwhatever u said is rite but gs body how much ever altered cannot become a cruiser like

i just told him that modifying GS is better than fitting its engine to enticer chasis... ya, we cant change GS in to a perfect cruiser. i prefer thunderbird to avenger... moreover avenger is powered by over square engine (relatively high revving, poor low end torque) as sporty pulsar 200's engine is directly placed with minor tweaks. Thunderbird is of under square engine (low revving, better low end torque) made for the purpose of cruising.
