I too agree with what Anupdas and Mach50 said about the rear brake. But it is designed so to avoid the skidding of back wheel. The habit of using back brake alone needs to be changed. I have seen many bikes with disconnected front brakes. While asked about it, the riders told that the front brakes have no use or it is dangerous to use it.

Mach’s braking style may be fine but you must have good practice to adopt it. In my experience, both wheels of GS will not skid however harsh the brakes are applied, unless you are not on gravel roads where you cannot move in great speed.

So, brake the bike in whatever style the situation demands. Do not disengage the clutch while braking as Mach50 pointed out.

You can use the engine itself as a brake by instantly down shifting the gear but that too needs more practice. Otherwise it may lead to disaster because a bike moving in high speed will leap forward if the clutch is disengaged. Try to practice both styles whenever the situation allows.

Don’t be tense about the brake and about the bike too. There is nothing special in your bike. It will go on without any problem as all other GS.

      All the best.

Yes,and experience tells me that on gravel or broken tarmac nothing equals rear braking when it comes to slowing down technics

The rear brake set-up of GS150R also helps a lot when cornering at certain speeds.......I wonder how can a rear disc brake be calibrated to deliver such

@mach50 and vishnu: My experience tells me differently......my rear brake locked up for couple of seconds when I pressed it hard from around 50-60 kmph just a few days ago......that was a bit scary......dont know if I rode on a sand patch or oil....but no doubt front brake is safe.

@guru: youll get used to the brakes and feel like it suits riding the gsr very well though a better rear would have been nice.

If someone rides something like a RD350 he will surely have the first hand knowledge of what pure undiluted performance means
Mach: yeah man....you cant tell anything going by its somewhat hollow exhaust note but Ive been overtaken, humbled and brought to my knees in signal drags by that devil when I thought I was going like crazy.
Any chance someone can buy one off the police?

Raced a fiero on k&n for a couple of kms today....that thing had vicious pickup.

@msn1: wow, I need to get around the city more....youre the first guy I heard about shivajinagar junkyard from.

          • Trip to Shirdi

            Hi All,
Last Weekend went on a long trip 500+ kms.
Went to Shirdi on saturday, after Darshan went to Nashik, Stayed overnight there & returned the next day. Very Scenic road.
I have also driven a car in the same route, but the fun of riding is much better than driving...
On highways, GSR was butter smooth.
Had pillion & luggage, but still managed to touch 110kph
No Doubt it is a very able tourer.

This is my first long ride on GS, second service is due in this month end. Ride mostly on 70-90KMPH speed and occassionally went for 100+KMPH .
Hi Pavan, nice to hear about your weekend trip.
Even i am planning to go to Mahabaleshwar in near future. Can you elaborate the route a bit more. Also can you provide more details of the trip, like travel time, road condition, etc..

The rear brake of GS150R is lemon,as always I had said,it is very dumb.....so practice your control over the rewarding front Disc brake which is perhaps better if not the best than most bikes in India.Try not grabbing the disc at one full go in braking situations, try pressing and releasing very fast....I mean within a small fraction of second press and release it five times with the rear brake fully pressed and you will stop miraculously even in panic situations.I had practiced it a lot and it really has made difference in riding now !!! Also try not to use clutch while braking, use clutch only after the bike has slowed down...the engine braking complements the normal braking then.

GS150R has wide handlebar which makes the RVM's(Rear View Mirror) job a bit difficult.Try to align it to a position that would suit you the best

Lastly,Congrats on your new purchase,I hope you would very soon adapt the GS150R and enjoy it like most of us here do.It is a bike which has turned many common folks into Biking enthusiasts

thanks buddy...I am really enjoying the bike....today I even got up very early to come to office...even in this cold...just to enjoy the bike.....
Yes I think I will get used to the rear brake....
I have experince with the disc brake of P150....which was my previous bike....it used to lock up at the smallest touch....well I will keep your points in mid regarding the braking...
                      anyway thanks again.....

I was so used the disc braking of my P150 before this....that I could not ride any other bikes without the disc brake...once we get used to it....non-disc brake bikes are really difficult....
Thanks for the inputs....will surely follow them....

                      • Hello Friends,

I've booked for GS150r and I'll get my Black GS by 20th of this month.
I was previously using HH Splendor(2000 model) for 18 months. After reading lots of forums(mainly this thread) and referring to my friends I choose GS. I'm little worried as I've no previous experience of using a heavy bike like this, that too a different gear pattern.

Hey guys, what will be the standard accessories available with a normal purchase of a GS. Will they provide Insurance or something else with this purchase. The amount they quoted for my GS is 69450/- in Cochin

                        Joe.

                        • I upgraded to GS from Caliber 115 after 6 years. You will get used to the weight and gear pattern in no time. Only thing is, all other bikes will feel like toy after you are used to the huge bike!

Insurance is included in the OTR price. Standard accessories: Saree guard, knee guard, number plate, side and main stand. No honda BS where you have to buy each and every screw as additional accessory!

Good to see a Malayali in the forum. Just like animeher said you will adapt to GS in no time and once you get used to it every other bike seems too light and zippy. Even the Unicorn and Hunk will seem lighter. GS is a bike who trains his rider.

Most of the dealers give all the accessories free. The standard accessories mentioned by animeher come as stock. The tank cover, seat cover, hand grip, buzzer, teflon coating and bike cover are the accessories.

The service centre guy asked whether I want accessories, thinking it will add to the price of Bike I said no, he finalized everything and then only did he say that as an offer they are giving all accessories free. So ask beforehand if they are free.

GS will go problem free for many years, if maintained well. The only thing you will have to keep in mind is to avoid all kinds of alterations and modifications unless absolutely necessary. Good luck.

Apart from this standard fitment items, with you bargaining skills you can ask for the following as free.

                                Seat cover
                                Handgrip

                                Teflon coating

Initially you will feel the weight once it gains momentum you won't feel the weight at all.

don't expect much mileage before second service.

But do make sure its not below 42 kmpl

                                Best wishes
