  • Haste Makes Waste !!!

Don't be so quick to try out carburetor tuning. Mileage can vary due to several factors. Like
    1. Adulterated petrol
    2. High evaporation if the bike was placed in sun and if the bike is running near reserve level.

Many have reported low mileage figures just after service. Don't haste, no S.C touches carb unless we ask to. Do a can test to know the accurate mileage.

    • ok.. so should i visit S.C.?

      • Do another R-R mileage check. This time go for another bunk and make sure to keep bike in shade, avoid short trips etc etc.

See if the mileage is still the same. If it is not back to normal as for a can test to the Service Centre and if required ask for tuning.

Dont worry pal, it may be due to adulterated petrol.

I am used to go around 4.5 rpm. ofcourse i have revd n hit 115kmph etc.. but usually i don;t rev much in lower gears..... because if i rev up to 8k or 9k in every gear the sound is really irritating.. Do u people rev hard n race or just be a commuter> and can our bike stand a chance against other 150 ccs. ? M coll student though , taking bike up to 40 km round trip everyday to col.

Yes their is no Doubt on performance of GS in Top end speed
and GS is very stable at top end speed

i haven't tried R15 but would say GS is excellent performer at top end among other air cooled.150cc monsters

racing and winning the drag it all depends on the driver
how he shifts the gear and how he makes the bike reach top speed and stay balanced

before talking about racing buy safety accessories then try.

am not a racer but did reached 124 kmph on GS speed once

If it comes to speed our SME [subject matter expert] is MACH50 so Pm Him for more info

vishnu, psr do you guys have any tips for shrikky on this

                  • Oh that is awesome, but just got a real bad morning . i woke up and i realised that my bike is punctured again just fixed it 2 days back. i can't find any sharp thing on tyre. The petrol bunk says no air available so i'm not sure if its a puncture or someone just pulled the plug, .. i had 3 punctures in the rear tyre in the last 2 months. sad roads we have in chennai,
Can anyone suggest me proper prevention tips for bike puncture?
I think i will have to change the tube as of now. Tell me the pros and cons of a tubeless tyre, Can i change my rear tyre to tubeless? is it adviceable to do so? if yes then what are the tyres i should look on and the price?

usually the front tyre takes the beating first, but its strange all three times your rear tyre took it

in tubeless tyres puncture will happen but with that we can travel some more miles, life of the tubeless is lesser than tubed
and puncture fixing cost is higher

i did got two punctures on front tyre but the second puncture happened as the first puncture wasn't fixed properly (i mean their was a leak occurred at the place of the first puncture sticker

do check air pressure at least every 10 days once

@shrikky: I do a bit of both.....not track racing mind you, just traffic signal racing. It can take on many other 150ccs with ease zipping fast through traffic.....it has ample traffic beating power at its disposal in the third and fourth gears. That doesnt mean squat though because Ive been beaten by victors and calibers and even my old 2t because gs lacks linear power delivery...i.e you have to hit a certain rpm range to experience a good surge. But I can safely say that once beyond 2nd gear and some 35kmph, you'll find many other bikes struggling to keep up with gs atleast upto some 80 kmph. Refer to one of our old timers, amitine's post, some 10 pages back, on dragging the gs. That one was truly inspirational.

I have to say traffic racing takes as much or more discipline than track racing.....If track racing : 100 mtr sprint\endurance, traffic racing : obstacle course....that too like takeshi's castle obstacle course.
If you get distracted at speed for even 1 sec, say looking down at rpm indicator or something, things can go very wrong.

Nearly hit a car at 60kmph yesterday, did panic brake, rear wheel locked up again, fishtailed for a very loong second but finally regained control....all because for 1sec, I bent down to look at the speed while the taxi had suddenly come left during that 1 sec. Worst yet was one apache struggling to keep up with me overtook in that time, dangerously zipped between 2 cars and by the time I could get back to following him, the gap between the cars had closed and I unofficially lost unable to move further.
Another time, narrowly escaped hitting an auto at 95-100 kmph because I was reading what was written on a car's backside. ...and it said, "if Im speeding, mind your own business". And you always have to keep a lookout for our everpresent traffic mamas who dont care for life or limb and just jump in your way, even if youre at 70 kmph, to stop and fine you for the silliest reasons.

But overall, whether youre racing your uncle(read as commuting ) or the latesht palser, its definitely a fun bike.

++ hey anup, saw your letter in issue 3 today. nice nod to this thread.

If you do not rev hard you will never find power on tap.
Remember GS loves revs and has truck loads of torque in mid range, using which I brick batted Pulsar220 upto the apex of a bridge and braked late while coming down it,Pulsar 220 rider failed to keep pace braked early slowed down.

GS 150R is one of the most confidence inspiring bikes around,to race it ,you have to get yourself correct as a rider, getting used to high revs and controlling a heavy bike at high speeds in short distances.

...........I should not say it here, but the same goes for Honda CB Unicorn, just show it some corners and it will handle at par with the R15.

These bikes are all rounders, not sports focused. But you have to become accustomed to their character to utilise it.

I found unicorn to be less lean friendly than gs. While I could take high speed curves with ease on gs, unicorn scared me with some wobbling.....maybe as you said, it takes getting used to it.
