bro the space in petrol tank mouth will not be rusted that easily and u can avoid it by keepin ur bike in side stand after riding in rain. and regarding the care on rusting, no need to take special care just lubricate ur chain and some points as specified in manual. if ur using any cover on ur bike then let the bike gets dried then cover it or else rusting may start.

no petrol tank indicator show accurately but approximately as the float inside petrol tank may rise differently when the bike is tilted to some angles.. the indicator is just to tell when to refuel that's it bro

              • The all conquering GS150R.......

This time it shows it magic in waters........well even a great deluge may not stop it !!!!!

There has been continuous rains in my city since last night.......without even a second's pause. It is looking now that it may flood or worse.
I had no work today morning, all my construction sites are on a close down since construction of building in rains poses many disadvantages, even people involved with me in my business had nothing to do with me today.Hence felt bored all the day.But every hour showed no sign of reat in the downpours till the locality became waterlogged waist deep.

In the evening and I was almost willing to get out there and freak out.
Despite finding people pushing their vehicles everywhere, a strange wickedness overcame me to get the GS150R into the muck.

And what happened after that made me think, what the hell is with the vehicle.............it traversed 12kms of journey in waist deep waters on roads with ongoing constructions and potholes and did not even feel the pang !!!!!

I found Marutis, Hyundais, Indicas being pushed around.Hunk, Glamour and Discover being dragged through but everyone of them was looking at me and my bike.I can hear the sound of exhaust beat under water, but GS does not give-up.....a characteristic trait which I identify with myself. There were virtually no two-wheelers on the road and the few here and there were being dragged around. There were few cars on the city transit highway zones. The only vehicles that moved around with supremacy was my GS150R and trucks.

Even transit highway has got knee deep waterlogging !!!

This weather is outrageous........but my GS150R and myself simply outwits it.

                • Gr8 mach da,

Remember do not stop the vehicle while travelling in rain water, once water enters inside the silencer starting is a problem for all bikes and cars as well.

                  Maestro,

Mileage is not just depends on one or two screws, there are many internal (handling, engine and other componunts settings / conditions and so on) and external (such as fuel quantity and quality and many) factors

                  • Check the mileage properly with 200-300 ml of petrol in a jar available in the sc. No other method is reliable.
Before that, ensure that the brakes, chain, air filter etc., etc. are in good condition and there is no fuel leak. After doing it, please post the result here.
PWR or ECO mode makes no difference in mileage or performance.
The mileage on my third trial of 1 litre fuel is shocking...After getting 44kmpl on fist 2 trial , i got 35kmpl on the third trial...almost 10km reduction.....Really Pissed off!! ...There are no petrol theives where i park and also i drive in top gears at minimal possible speed.

Vishnu, i will also check later using 200ml jar but using 1 litre fuel to check mileage should also give quite accurate mileage right? ....i make sure tank is empty before pouring 1 litre fuel.....

                      i am a proud owner of gs150r B-)
bought this bike in last august..and in love with her since the first test ride
however, m facing one problem with the head light..i feel its intensity is very low...
plus m having some focus problem with the low beam...
so this time i want to change the stock bulb ...any suggestion from any one?
by the way, one mechanic from the service center told me go for Apache RTR bulb which will cost around 200 in my city........
however my knowledge about these things are very limited...so i need some help or suggestion from u guys..
                      thanks in advance

This subject is in a pulp form; chewed again and again.
As far as I know, there is no way to know the exact mileage of a vehicle other than supplying a measured quantity of fuel of 100 ml or 1 litre or 10 litres or more, directly to the carburetor. This is the universally approved method.

Each of us are eager to get good mileage but it is strange that none is even ready to check it properly, though it is not a Himalayan task.

You are complaining about the low mileage from 11/11/10, that is 7 months ago. Please check the mileage properly, and if the result is poor, get the bike checked at the sc. Check the piston and valves. Check the carburetor tuning.

The light from the headlight bulb of GS is not focusing to a point but is diverging. This is due to the shape of the reflector which cannot be replaced with another one.

Apache RTR is using the same 12 V 35-35 watt bulb. Changing the bulb alone may not give the desired result.

Try a good 60-55 watt, H4 bulb such as Osram Night Breaker or Phillips Xtreme Power. The Osram NB costs Rs. 700/- here.

try tuning your carb by trial and error method.
1st try, put the golden fuel screw to lock position (clockwise) and turn it 1.5 turns (360 + 180 degrees) in anti clockwise, now measure mileage anyway you like (100 mljar or r2r or full tank).

After that put it to 2 turns and try again, (if you feel that engine was getting over heated or there wasnt enough pickup with 1.5 setting).
I'm currently at 2 turns, i was getting 51kmpl at 1.5, but felt guilty that i was chocking the bike so made it 2. now i get 48.5 or 49 kmpl.

                          At 2.5 turns i get 47-48kmpl, and 3 turns i was getting 46-47kmpl.
Might help, tuning by other methods (which involve lookign at a steady idle rpm at each setting, or the engine beat) dont work very well, because the idle rpm has little fluctuation at every setting, and the beat is to silent to tell if its smooth or rough.

i feel the best indication to check overheating is idle rpm, if the hot idle is 500rpm more than the cold idle, then its probably getting overheated,
ideally it should be 1000 for cold, and 1300 for hot.(300 difference)

                          • I bought a HID 4300K Bixenon unit today...........the light it sheds is megawhite with legal yellow tint.......very similar to broad sunny daylight.

Finally, used Motul 300V for the GS150R today, engine requires solid protection from what it is going to become soon.

Would convert the bike to full DC on Monday and install the HID.

...........more to come up, watch my updates
