^^In small displacement two wheelers, it is always a good practice to use the kick starter for cold starts (starting from home in the morning/work place in the evening); and use the self starter for warm starts - such as at traffic signals. This will significantly extend battery life.

How many other mods have you done on the bike?Originally posted by punarvasu View PostThat is nice but I cannot do it because the kick start lever is removed from my bike.
Anyway, how will you start if the battery has died off?
Tank cover you can get in the Suzuki showroom itself. Its some Rs. 150 I guess. For stickers, I know one shop in BTM Stage 2, 29th Main opposite to the Mosque. You can try there.Originally posted by R0CKY!! View PostI have been following this thread regularly since i joined and i must say it's a very active one.

Can anyone tell me a good shop to get tank covers and stickers in Bangalore (preferably near indiranagar or marathalli area)?
Also i have a small query.I find it a bit tough to maintain balance in tight turns and sharp u turns with a pillion because of the heaviness of the bike

Any tips from the pros out here?

Special tools like feeler gauge, torque wrench, air pressure gauge etc is not usually stored in local tools shops as very few are buying it.
Never trust those LP school dropout mechanics.
Just changed to full DC, replaced headlight bulb with 55/60 watts Osram Night Breaker and the carburetor plug with iridium and nothing more.Originally posted by rharish90 View PostHow many other mods have you done on the bike?

Yet not faced such a situation but hope push-starting will do.

That covers are of poor quality. Most of the auto-upholsterers are stitching it. Try there.

My bike has a similar problem. I used to get a thud sound when changing from 2nd to 3rd gear. A close observation the scenario is as follows.Originally posted by firegun View PostThing is when the choke is applied engine RPM will be higher than 1.4K and at a little bit high RPM clutch will play little easy manner so that shifting the gear will become Easy that is the thing he feels, So for Testing purpose those who are troubling in Hard Gear shift can do a small research by just increasing the RPM around 2K and then do shifting the Gear, may be i think that it will be smooth(Don't apply the choke and Ride the bike it will suck huge Fuel
)
Other than this i cant think any gimmicks
When I start my bike in the morning or after office in the evening, gear shift is butter smooth. But after riding for some time/distance the 2nd to 3rd gear shift becomes really hard and it produces a thud sound. If my trip is longer (say 100 km) then 3rd to 4th also becomes a little hard. Otherwise this problem is present only in the 2nd to 3rd gear shift.
If I allow my bike to cool down and ride again, this hardness and sound vanishes for sometime.
and it comes back after some riding
It would be great if anyone can throw some light into this. I'm really confused now.Any input will be helpfull. Thanks in advance

Hello Friends,
Accidentally yesterday my bike hit Reserve just in front of a Petrol Pump, so what i did is just filled the petrol for Rs 100 (1.33 Liter) and today when the trip meter showed 92.3KM my bike got Reserve again.
My GS FE is 69.39 kmpl
My Riding conditions:
1. One start stop from my home to R&D center with no in-between gear shifting, no speed breaks in my Root.
2. I usually ride around 50-55 kmph of speed sometimes may be below 50 kmph

My latest FE update, 990kms for 17.46lts of fuel... So 56.7kmpl...Originally posted by firegun View PostMy GS FE is 69.39 kmpl

Riding at 50-70kmph all the time with asusual stop and go riding condition in Chennai traffic... Few highway riding of 250kms max at 70-80kmph...

Mine too keeps hovering in the 55-60 area with no special care. I'm sure I can atleast match Fireguns numbers with some effort.Originally posted by KIRTIMANNAN View PostWow you guys are my Gods...How can you achive such mileage in city Magesh...Its hard to believe..

Guys...as you know I got my bike modified by Joel a bit...below are my observations after the mods...
Mods Done -
Bigger bore drilled.
Cylinder head work done
bigger fuel jet added in carb..
Results..
To be honest the results are actually quite startling...i can hit 0-60 in about 5.5 seconds...(cant use stop watch to check so i count Mississippily..ie the word Mississippi takes 1 second to say at normal speed, always reach 60 before i start the 6th Mississippi
)..
the throttle seems so free now...can hardly feel the weight of the bike on the throttle...
the engine heats up a bit,,but that is expected..
downshifting is a bit noisy and hard..but i doubt that is because of engine..
there is a lot of additional engine noise...need to see jeol about this..
sometime the bike stutters like its gasping for air..i guess carb has to be tuned properly..
have ridden close to 1500 km now...and no effect on engine...mileage has slightly improved but am told it can be improved further...
top speed reached so far is 121 KMPH..on a hot day with juice still left on throttle...
END MOD DISCUSSION..
Am seriously thinking of getting a HID kit..I went to JC road in bangalore and asked around and all of them charge between 1500-3000 INR...Now what i want you guys to help me out with is that
Are these lights reliable??
Will they improve the Lighting of the bike??
Do i need to convert to DC for this to work??(I am being told its not required)
Will Cops trouble me??
Also after my last service...they have changed some setting on my front suspensions...they are very hard and each bump or speed breaker i can hear a sound from the front... not sure what they have done...bike was noiseless on bumps before and very smooth as well..now it is not...
Anyways...let me know your feedback guys...KM

First of all it's an approximate value..,,Originally posted by KIRTIMANNAN View PostWow you guys are my Gods...How can you achive such mileage in city Magesh...Its hard to believe..
Am sure we ride the same bike...so please tell me how is it that i can never get more than 46-46 kmpl on my bike....
Secondly these are the steps I follow..,
- I ride mostly in top gear using full clutch to shift gears.,.
- Will be in 6th gear at a speed of 28~30kmph...
- Will open the throttle gradually...
- No carb adjustments, they're at the factory set levels..
- Ever week check the tire pressure and set it to 33/35 at rear and 22/25 at front for solo/pillion+ riding...
- Adjust the chain slackness by myeslf and some lubrication..
For a normal riding condition(shifting at 3.5k rpm) my Gs delivers an avg of 52kmpl in city..
I also noticed that GS is pocket friendly (FE + Comfort + Safety + Speed) compared to my HH P+ ...

That is what's so frustrating...I have tried everything in the book...ECO mode..drive below 4500 rpm...below 60 kmph...not over revving...but still no effect...the only thing i have not done yet is a bottle test on my bike to find out the mileage...never seem to find the time to do it....Originally posted by vikhyath View PostMine too keeps hovering in the 55-60 area with no special care. Just do this, empty the tank and fill some 1 or 2litres of fuel and run the bike for a day or two to make it to come to halt completely.,Originally posted by KIRTIMANNAN View PostThat is what's so frustrating...I have tried everything in the book...ECO mode..drive below 4500 rpm...below 60 kmph...not over revving...but still no effect...the only thing i have not done yet is a bottle test on my bike to find out the mileage...never seem to find the time to do it....

Keep a can of fuel after some 60kms of riding.. This is also one method to calculate FE ..
PS:::
To all,
After the change of spark plugs to NGK Iridium , there is a noticeable change in acceleration..
Is it due to NGK's claim of impoved acceleration or just b'cos of the diff b/w my old plug seemed to have a more clearance...Last edited by gmagesh14; 06-15-2012, 01:16 AM.

Basically i ride from my village(home) to a town so i was always away from road traffics and the carburetor was tuned by myself using a testcan, but i dont count how much turns it is just adjusted for higher mileage.Originally posted by KIRTIMANNAN View PostWow you guys are my Gods...How can you achive such mileage in city Magesh...Its hard to believe..

Sure try shifting the gear little earlier and goto 6th gear ASAPOriginally posted by vikhyath View PostMine too keeps hovering in the 55-60 area with no special care. I'm sure I can atleast match Fireguns numbers with some effort.
my gear shifting style:
1st 0-8kmph
2nd 8-13kmph
3rd 13-18kmph
4th 18-24kmph
5th 24-32kmph
and 6th is always above 30kmph mostly i shift to 6th gear around 35kmph

Are these lights reliable??
mostly reliable for me no problem (i am using for about 8 months daily 1 hour of night ride but now i had shifted to Telescopic)
Will they improve the Lighting of the bike??
for me it works
Do i need to convert to DC for this to work??(I am being told its not required)

DC conversion is must for DC input ballast, if you find any AC ballast you can you that directly but in indian market i dont find any AC ballast upto now, you can make order through Aliexpress.com(directly buy from china).
Cops: if you use higher colour TEMP(greater than 4300k) of HID sure that cops will give troubles
If you know how to tune the Carb. try tuning with a test canOriginally posted by KIRTIMANNAN View PostThat is what's so frustrating...I have tried everything in the book...ECO mode..drive below 4500 rpm...below 60 kmph...not over revving...but still no effect...the only thing i have not done yet is a bottle test on my bike to find out the mileage...never seem to find the time to do it....

@ALL
My next upgrade is scheduled now:
This time i am going to change the final transmission to Belt drive (like Harley Davidson style)
Still planning, I will update here before trying

@ magesh- I asked a tuner once about Iridium spark plugs and according to him, to get a noticeable increase in acceleration we also need to use spitfire cables along with the Iridium spark plugs. Those cables cost around Rs.500/- I believe.
@ firegun - Thanks for the tips
Apart from the timing of the shifts, I also change the gears a lot to stay above 3k RPM just so that I don't have to slip the clutch causing clutch wear. Also, after a couple of close shaves, I keep the air pressure a little low(22F 30R) to minimize skidding. So to improve the FE, I need to change quite a few factors.
