    • Engine Balancer...

      Vaibhav,

I too had the same question before buying the bike. I sent a mail to Suzuki on their website, not expecting any reply. Then I had my query posted on this forum, and some of the senior members advised me correctly. But a few days later, I got a call from guess who...?? the Suzuki boffins themselves. One of the engineer spoke to me from their manufacturing plant, and said "the engine balancer technology is very much present from day 1 is present in the 2012 model as well(i guess this was the issue on the mouthshut.com website) and will continue to be there till the production of the bike stops" I was pretty pleased ... Bought the bike within a 1 or 2 days of this conversation.

But after Tyre change I feel vibrations at foot pegs and break pedal . Is it because of change of Tyre ? I have fitted Michelin Sirac with the same stock Tyre specification i.e. 100/90-18 M/C 56P .

Check the chain slack, if it is tight or loose it causes vibes.

            • That is awesome, i was always wondering why would no one(Motorbike manufacturers) in India has ever adapted belt transmission(exemption Kinetic Luna).

              PLEASE KEEP US UPDATED.[/QUOTE]

all scooters / cvt mopeds require belt drive as they have CVT ( continuously varieble transmision) whih is automatic in simple terms, which have pressure discs holding the belt and with speed due to centrifuge varies the diametric peripheri towards final drive.but because of tension( rubber belt & high streessed springs there is high rolling resisitance ( try pushing Luna , it will be heavier than pushing bullet) , which converts to power losses , chain drive is much simpler and less rolling resisitance that too due to friction only. cost and weight are almost similar . scooters have different arrangement ( centrifugal clutch operated through belt drive- engine-clutch), which detaches engine from the wheel

Belt should have grooves matching both pulies .

It will be intaresting if someone tries with bikes ( in mumbai somebody has altered bullet with belt drive ), to start with GS will be great , i am confident it will eliminate all vibes to zero like cars whatever is left over in already smooth bike like GS.

Some very famous bikes like the BMW R1200GS have a sealed shaft drive for transmission because of the reason that its maintenance free. But the possibilities of being able to incorporating it into the GS150R are very few

                  Sure
One more thing , belt drive mostly require good enclusure , our stock chain covers will require replacement as per size of pulley and belt , do not compare with H D bikes they use expensive parts and designed to show off all possible parts (thats there trademark) , open belt drive is bad option in India , we possibly will require frequent belt change if exposed to earthly (indian )conditions which actually overlast metal chains.

No way , this is like reengineering the whole bike , atleast in power plant - transmission , suspension , linkages , engine layout & mounting are diffrent in shaft driven vehicles , compare with back wheel driven 4 wheelers like trucks, jeeps. extremly expensive.

                      Mods Done -

                      Bigger bore drilled.
                      Cylinder head work done
bigger fuel jet added in carb..

                      Results..

To be honest the results are actually quite startling...i can hit 0-60 in about 5.5 seconds...(cant use stop watch to check so i count Mississippily..ie the word Mississippi takes 1 second to say at normal speed, always reach 60 before i start the 6th Mississippi)..

the throttle seems so free now...can hardly feel the weight of the bike on the throttle...

the engine heats up a bit,,but that is expected..

downshifting is a bit noisy and hard..but i doubt that is because of engine..

there is a lot of additional engine noise...need to see jeol about this..

sometime the bike stutters like its gasping for air..i guess carb has to be tuned properly..

have ridden close to 1500 km now...and no effect on engine...mileage has slightly improved but am told it can be improved further...

top speed reached so far is 121 KMPH..on a hot day with juice still left on throttle...

                      END MOD DISCUSSION..

Am seriously thinking of getting a HID kit..I went to JC road in bangalore and asked around and all of them charge between 1500-3000 INR...Now what i want you guys to help me out with is that

                      Are these lights reliable??
Will they improve the Lighting of the bike??
Do i need to convert to DC for this to work??(I am being told its not required)
                      Will Cops trouble me??

Also after my last service...they have changed some setting on my front suspensions...they are very hard and each bump or speed breaker i can hear a sound from the front... not sure what they have done...bike was noiseless on bumps before and very smooth as well..now it is not...

Anyways...let me know your feedback guys...
I was waiting for some updates from you on Joeling the GS. Thanks for updating. I guess you need some more tuning in a few places to get the perfect setup. Anyways, Joel can do it. Do keep us updated.

As for HID, you must convert the bike to DC. There is one shop near Lalbagh who can do it. And HID, get it from Navnish as one member already mentioned. He is on xBHP and a few other forums but I am not sure how active he is. His shop is near HAL Stage 3 IIRC.

This is his shop's FB page. You might want to have a look.

To get the least attention from cops, get a Bixenon 4300K HID without the projector. They will have no clue that you have fitted HID. Anything else is a cop magnet.

Secondly these are the steps I follow..,

                      • I ride mostly in top gear using full clutch to shift gears.,.
                      • Will be in 6th gear at a speed of 28~30kmph...
                      • Will open the throttle gradually...
                      • No carb adjustments, they're at the factory set levels..
                      • Ever week check the tire pressure and set it to 33/35 at rear and 22/25 at front for solo/pillion+ riding...
                      • Adjust the chain slackness by myeslf and some lubrication..

For a normal riding condition(shifting at 3.5k rpm) my Gs delivers an avg of 52kmpl in city..

I also noticed that GS is pocket friendly (FE + Comfort + Safety + Speed) compared to my HH P+ ...
I used to ride the same way and would get the same mileage. As I had reported earlier, after the first service mileage dropped by 10 KMPL. I feel significant jerking in the 1st and 2nd gear. I am 100% sure my bike has been tuned by the SVC to run rich. I need to get it tuned properly during the second service which is almost due.

Arul sir your mods on the bike is inspiring! So many things you are doing! I never knew our place had such skilful mechanics. Or are these DIY?

One question to you. What is the advantage of going for a belt drive?

another question...will getting a naked chain cover affect performance...is it any advantage to do it...i was told that a apache 180 chain guard maybe a straight fit...
KM, trust me you cannot do more harm than installing a naked chain cover which is basically a no chain cover. So much dust and dirt get accumulated that the life of the chain reduces, requires frequent cleaning, lubricating and adjustment. Other than just the looks, it pretty useless IMHO.

Bro, can I know from where you got the Sirac? I have been looking for the same. How much was the resale value of the old tyre?

For the vibrations, check this link. It has the solution. You need to add a washer. That's all.

Shaft transmission will be the least maintenance among three(chain, belt and Shaft) transmissions. But the installation will be expensive and without a good mechanic's help, it seems damn tough to me.
I have seen most of the drive shaft problems in cars are like once in 7-10 years/may start after 60k kms. Drive shaft cost was 46K for my Santro AT
For me Belt type is best AFAIK

but now i came to know some interesting advantages ,
1.Pick-up will increase (i was dual advised in this point)
                        2.Top Speed will be increased
                        3.Noiseless
                        4.Ultra-low maintenance
5.No problem to Engine, Gear and bearings when using Belt
6.Little bit expensive (May cross Rs 5k to complete the entire job)

Only problem i was thinking right now is, how to fix the speed sensor when converted to belt drive

Didnt checked it thoroughly,,But the sensor should be a proximity type which senses metals infront of it at a distance of 2/4/8/15mm based on its sensing range..

Speed is measured with the help of interval between each pulses (interval b/w each links) recieved ..

To cross check , take the sensor out and move a metal piece in and out slowly (like TESTER's edge) .. If it shows some value., then it's very easy to incorporate in belt drive system,.By creating projecting points on the pully to which the sensor should sense., Distance b/w each projecting point is the same distance b/w the each link's gap..

                          Comment

Yeah its a hall effect transducer(which is the best precision sensing Technology for positioning, speed detection, and current sensing applications).

Speed is measured with the help of interval between each pulses (interval b/w each links) recieved ..
Not pulse, a variable analog Voltage is taken from the sensor(basic concept of a hall effect transducer)

Again this is also a common factor that we all knew but the thing is the pulley should match exactly as the front sprocket or else speed detection will be miss calculated as we all knew that our GS speedo has the least error ratio compared with other brand bikes,so what i was thinking is, a replacement should work with OEM result

                            Thanks

pls assure fuel volume you get , some times try filling on volume basis like 1/2/3 liters instead of currency based ( worth rupees) like Rs 100/200/300/500 or so . this will give accurate milege , drive in eco mode maximum , if confirmed please get carburetor it tuned from ASC , bottle test do not ensure regular condition milege.
