SO, I got the delivery of my R3 on Dec 28th ! I got the Matt Black version.
Got the delivery from Perfect Riders, Jayanagar.

Will not say the process was awesome.
Up to the point of buying the bike, everything was great, great attention too.
However, was left very unsatisfied with the PDI.

It felt like the bike was not washed, there was literally dust all over the seat.
And a feeling of dread, I felt like I was given the bike that was on display when I first went.

Which meant that, whenever they were showcasing the bike, they were cranking the accelerator like there is no tomorrrow !
Had to stop him when he displayed this to me the first time, he cranked it all the way to 5k rpm from a cold start so that "I could feel the engine"!!!

Further issues in the PDI, they were impatient with my checklist and the items I was checking.
no comments on asking them to open and show the oil/liquid levels. Got only 3l of petrol too, barely.

Luckily, went to the petrol pump nearby, and that's where Blackthorn's PDI list came handy

The tyre pressure was 11 on both wheels!!! vs. a recommended f 29 and 33.

I then got a long ride back home in the fantastic Bengaluru mid day traffic.
Had to navigate through traffic.

Few observations, i felt the clutch is rather not stiff for a bike that doesnt have a slipper clutch, definitely alright to be using it for 30m of slow moving traffic.
That said, my bike has a lot of vibrations, I can feel it all the way up to 3rd gear.

There also seems to be quite a "click" when the gear engages (after i release the clutch lever).
hope these 2 issues get resolved after the first service.

The bike itself is a hoot, and I get so much attention on the streets (I dont prefer this, but its nice to get a "OH!" look from the ones that know the bike).

Had 3 false neutrals within like 5 minutes after i had ridden in the traffic for 45 minutes. The engine heat does pilfer a lot to your legs.

But an injury while playing football means I haven't touched the bike since! :|

Yes, I think I will go for the Nil dep, hopefully never have to use it.

Seems like a light year, and pleasing to see you've finally zeroed in on the motorcycle after what seemed like a soul searching saga. Now, I did claim with zero dep and still ended up losing a couple of thousand rupees due to "sir this, sir that". But, that's just my story.

Mind you, Nil Dep is a must for new vehicles and NIL Dep is to a certain year for all vehicles, plus, the little premium is worth it. You just never know.

Do go through the PDI thread just in case you need to refresh and refer, hopefully.

Nonetheless, post your "bundle of joy" experiences we'd love to hear it.

Corollary to this - I had initially wanted to ask if anyone had actually "claimed" a Nil dep insurance.
Does it actually help with your costs?
This is roughly around 3k each year for 5 years to ensure parts are replaced at full value come the 5th year.

5 years Thrid party + 5 years Own damage for 16.8K! Added zero dep for 5 full years is a steal deal IMHO for 32K.
Yes you'll lose out on the outright NCB discount every year but still currently very few dealers are offering full 5 years zero dep, you should go for it.

getting delivery of my bike tomorrow, just wanted to know if there is an R3 specific PDI list
Further, a 5 year comprehensive + TP insurance is costing me 16.8k
the same with zero dep comes to 32k.

Is it worth paying the premium to get the zero dep insurance?

Apparently Yamaha don't plan to bring this bike to India possibly till 2021, and it makes sense, holding a higher price and now the cheaper ninja300 available plus the lack of sales I feel is the issue here.

1. In Bangalore, during peak traffic, no. In moderate traffic (afternoon), yes.
1.1: Take it to college at your own risk. Many will try to sit on it, take selfies etc. People who are jealous of you will try to damage your bike. You will be in constant fear of people trying to mess with your bike. Sure you will get a lot of attention but that can be a problem. In colleges there are many who ride bikes and while parking, many tend to scratch others bikes. Get ready for scratches on your brand new 4.4L bike!

2. I get 22kmpl in city because my rear brake does not work and I don't ride above the speed of 70kmph. On highway I get 25kmpl while riding between 80-90kmph.
2.1: If i ride hard i will get 18kmpl in city and 22kmpl on highway (110kmph).

3. First service cost was 1.9k. 2nd 2k, 3rd, 1.8k, 4th paid service 3.9k.
3.1: I don't remember the cost but some service centers will overcharge you for polish and chain maintenance.
E.g., chain lubrication and clean will cost you 200-300 rupees so do it yourself.
Polish is not at all needed so you need to ask them to not do it and save 250 rupees there.

4. If you want Japanese reliability, twin cylinder vibration free refinement, super precise gear shifts with literally no false neutrals, blue rims, shark like looks, sweet exhaust sound, excellent power delivery, great ergonomics for riding, brilliant whatsapp owners support group, then go for it.

Cons:
People will still call it R15 :\
Original exhaust cost 25k, one scratch by a scooty wala = your 1st heartattack
High compression 2 cylinder engine is not meant for Bangalore traffic, hear from the radiator fan will cook your legs while the bike will run like it's nothing.
This is not RS200 or a splendor, it drops, things will break both in the bike and your body, be careful! ATGATT

Buy the bike from any showroom but service it only at pacer hebbal.
Others will be shared with you once you join the group.
R3 has ergonomics that are good enough to be considered as a tourer and is agile enough for the city so mt03 won't make much of a difference if and when it arrives in India.

Hi all
So I have almost finalised on getting an R3 as an upgrade from my RC200. But before that I have a few questions regarding the bike which would be best from the owners themselves.
1. Is the r3 an appropriate bike for everyday commute? (College/Weekend rides/casual morning drives/city rides). I know the reviews say it's comfortable but an opinion from long time owner would be valuable.

2. What kind of mileage does the bike give? (Now I know it's a performance motorcycle and I know the expected figures and I'm not bothered by it but then again I'm curious as to how much owners are getting in real world usage over a long period of ownership)

3. Maintenance Cost. The biggest reason ive decided not to opt for the ninja is because of its lack of free services and with each service costing 6-7k. I've heard the r3s service costs 2-4k max....is this a fact or is it much like the ninja 300? In Addition to this any info on spare parts cost would be appreciated.

4. This question is more opnion centered but is the 4.4 lakh price tag (in Bangalore) really worth it? For me on paper it seems to be but an owners opinion here would be the most validating one.

Replies to any or all of these questions would be much appreciated as I have little time to make my decision.

Ugh, major disappointment guys (and girls, if you around).
the Yamaha press event yesterday was for the new Fascinos and Rayz'z !

So, no MT-03 coming to our shores then, not yet at least.
Planning on finalizing the existing R3.

Hoping to get a long-ish test ride from Perfect Riders (correction - mentioned Pacers earlier) Yamaha.
Do let me know if I should instead reach out to another showroom in Bengaluru for the purchase.

Firstly, congratulations on your buy

For getting added to the group, PM me. The run-in that you're doing should be fine.

There are many options for frame sliders and tail tidies. For frame sliders, you can choose from Puig, R&G, TST Industries, Vagabond Motorsports, Vortex Racing, Shogun and Evo Worx. Evo Worx can be sourced locally. For others, you either have to order from their site directly or you have to find a dealer here in India who deals with these brands. I have avoided installing frame sliders on my bike. They are useful only during standstill or slow speed crashes and does more harm than good at higher speeds. But then again, to each his own
Also, don't even think of getting an unbranded slider from AliExpress.

For tail tidies, you can again choose from Puig, R&G, TST Industries, Vagabond Motorsports, Savage Motorparts, MotoFusion, Evo Worx. MotoFusion and Evo Worx can be sourced locally. For others, you either have to order from their site directly or you have to find a dealer here in India who deals with these brands. I have a Vagabond Motorsports tail tidy on my bike and it's serving the cosmetic purpose well. It's rigid and stays in place even with external pressure from bungee cords. Only drawback is that your bike will be dirty all the time and it's a horror story during monsoons.

For preferred SVC, you can try out Pacer Yamaha at Hebbal. You can get more information on the preferred SVC's and SVC's that you need to avoid once you're added to the group. We have made a list after taking various inputs from owners who have used services of different SVC's and that information will rightfully be posted at your disposal.
