Re: Yamaha YZF- R15 S Owners Reviews and Experiences
Thanks you. Well I have done 28K KM on gixxer till now and the engine has developed harshness to it. Can't push it around like before and lack of 6th gear is evident since I ride in highway. Bike is solidly built, though engine is a let down in long term. Hence want to move to reliable engine with highway ridability.Originally posted by Shashank K R View PostWhat happened to your Gixxer?
Anyways, RS200 has a more upright seating posture. R15S is still quite sporty in this regard.
Both bikes have reliable engines, and both can easily cruise at 80-90kmph.
R15S should give around 45kmpl at those speeds and RS200 should give around 37-40kmpl or even more with light throttle input.
Test ride them both and see which you like more.

What will be the service cost? And i have seen in videos that r15 spares made in Indonesia are expensive and showroom has only these spares. Is it right? Also what's the service interval and average service cost of r15s?Originally posted by dineshaugustin View PostI assume, you want to move to the faired bike.
For your requirement both the bikes are good enough.
If you choose R15 you will have better handling, mileage and better quality & refinement.
If you choose RS200, you will have more power and better comfort. If you intend to keep at more than 100kmph , then RS200 is better.
TD both and see if you can adjust with the seating posture of R15, then it will give you more than what you expect.

Please suggest. Thank you

No idea or news on the price reduction of R15S as of now.Originally posted by emkayindia View PostHi Guys,
Any of you aware of a price reduction for the R15S? Bajaj has reduced upto 4.5k for their bikes in view of GST implementation. Any news from Yamaha?
Offtopic: The one drawback of R15S, in my opinion, is the short service interval of 70 days. My question is, once the warranty period is over, can we extend this service interval or still stick to 70 days? Any thoughts from long owners?
Thanks and happy shifting!
Regarding service interval after 1 year, stick to 3K KMs rather than days. The FS Yamalube engine oil runs great for 3 to 4K easily under usual circumstances, you just need to take care for chain cleaning and lubing.
Other than that air filter replacement and coolant top up needs to be done as per manual.
I've just completed one year and that's what I'll be doing, as I did with my last Yamaha.
Regards.

I suggest you leave the stock clip-ons as is. Altering the steering geometry is not advisable & may put you in peril.
- This won't be altering steering geometry, just adding a little height.Might just loose the original riding characteristics.
Changing to Xtreme vision 55W might give you a marginal improvement. But since the fault is with design of the stock reflectors, not much can be done in that regard.
- Agreed but even a little margin is a relief in current situation.
This is surprising, you mean to say you want to increase the seat cushioning or modify the seat itself? BTW replacement seat can be purchased for about 850 Rs.
- I had added .5 inches cushioning already but the butt still gives up after a 150-200KMs, on top of that cats have ruined the seat completely. Its not about cushioning but the design I'd want to modify for good.
I have used LED pilot lamps in the past and shifted back to stock as it led to a blown fuse once, and overall I did not like the White LED pilot lamps
- Not talking about pilot lamps, but external spot lamps.
Did you ensure the brakes were bled with fresh brake fluid? since it is a hygroscopic fluid and tends to absorb moisture from air causing it to lose efficiency. This may lead to additional free play similar to what you are mentioning.
- Was done in front of me, fresh new fluid. If there's air in the line, usually a few quick pumps would fix it temporarily but here its not the case anymore as well.
I have installed full length adjustable Moxi levers on mine, and can tell you that they will not give you lot more scope of bringing the lever closer but increasing the distance away from the handle-bars will not be a problem. I am using it on adjustment notch-2 which I find to be comfortable
- I'll see how much this helps, I got full length ones though.Last edited by PrinceCruise; 06-16-2017, 05:20 PM.

Hey there,
You've really done some detailed research regarding the subtle differences between the V2 & R15S
My friend already booked Track white.
Currently iam staying in abroad, thats why i couldnt do a TD or clarify myself. But got all the doubts clarified.Originally posted by PrinceCruise View PostRide both bikes yourself and you'll realize its all in that guy's head.
Rest as @yamahamann has mentioned, its just the lazy PR guys, on the official page.
Thanks for the info.
The only negative we feel is super short Service Interval for such premium price.

I suggest you leave the stock clip-ons as is. Altering the steering geometry is not advisable & may put you in peril.
- Yellow(?) LED headlamps, rains are starting and this 55W bulb is also deeming useless. Or might buy Phillips xtreme vision plus 55W if someone confirms those are really good.
Changing to Xtreme vision 55W might give you a marginal improvement. But since the fault is with design of the stock reflectors, not much can be done in that regard.
- Seat rebuild from scratch.
This is surprising, you mean to say you want to increase the seat cushioning or modify the seat itself? BTW replacement seat can be purchased for about 850 Rs.
- I do not like the front indicators position, its too damn low for any car or bike in the front to see from their rear view mirrors. I'm brain storming on that.
Let me know what you come up with!
- Spot lamps. I'm thinking of replacing the front indicators with low wattage spot LEDs and find a better place for the indicators. Might use them as DRLs.
I have used LED pilot lamps in the past and shifted back to stock as it led to a blown fuse once, and overall I did not like the White LED pilot lamps
Suggestions are highly appreciated on all the above points, fellas.
Regards.I am at 8500 KMs now and just checked the front pads yesterday, looks like they are good for another 1000 KMs. So by this estimate its about time you would have approached the end of their life. 9700 KMs is a respectable life-time for the front brake pads.Originally posted by TheArcher84 View PostHow long did the brake pads last on your bike, mine seems to start loosing its bite, I dont apply heavy braking, rather I do progressive on the front brakes. I have already bought genuine replacement front pads (Made in Indonesia ones) for Rs. 630 from Yamaha parts store. I will be changing them in a couple of weeks myself. No point in paying SVC 200 Rs. for a simple task that hardly takes 15 mins.

As of now, all is good except that fact that the front brake lever "freeplay" is almost an inch. I've done brake line bleeding, master cylinder bleeding, fluid top up and cleaning the pads and rotor, but the 1 inch play is permanent now.
The braking power is still as good as original but it takes that freeplay plus some extra pull to get the brakes effective. In stop go traffic, its taking a toll on the right thumb. Now whatever information I've gathered, this has been fairly common with R15 and one probably must have to change the one finger hard braking style.

I faced this problem in the past with my Bajaj Avenger (the brakes on it were shi* anyways
) As the mechanic had used stale brake fluid and I had to bleed the lines again with fresh brake juice to get it working right.
I've just got MOXI's adjustable lever to compensate on this though, lets see how will that go after I fit them.

Re: Yamaha YZF- R15 S Owners Reviews and Experiences
Ride both bikes yourself and you'll realize its all in that guy's head. Both the bikes handle and generate power similarly to a fault, may be not 100% but lets say 99%(due to a narrower aerodynamic front and tail of 2.0). Having owned S for an year and ridden a very well maintained friend's 2.0 for a good time, I can confirm you that.Originally posted by dineshaugustin View PostBut surprising he told me both the bike behaves little different and especially after 6k rpm the V2.0 seems more eager. Also changing direction is slightly easy on V2.0.
So i started to do some digging, and i didnt find much detail about the performance difference, rather i got info on aesthetic, until i accidentally landed on this website.

That minimal power difference is compensated by a little weight loss on the S. The front fairing was made almost similar to the V1.0 because they promoted this one as a v1.0 with a v2.0 engine and thus S looks bulkier than 2.0.

My front brake pad was replaced at around 8000 KMs due to that fact that with this front heavy bike I've been relying mostly on front than rear (90%-10%). A few pages back I've given the entire ordeal of that. Rear set is still okay for next 3-4K.

Hey there,Originally posted by dineshaugustin View PostHi guys...!!
I have a big doubt.
My friend is looking for a new bike. So i suggested him FZ25 or R15S ( i recommended him R15s just to get the full motorcycle experience rather then the engine performance alone ). So finally he confirmed R15S ( he is somewhat faired bike lover too). I insist him to take TD. So he went and took TD of his friend's R15 V2.0 and was amazed by the riding experience. Later i told him to take TD of R15s too, just to get the feel of actual bike he is going to get.
But surprising he told me both the bike behaves little different and especially after 6k rpm the V2.0 seems more eager. Also changing direction is slightly easy on V2.0.

I also find it little weird, the omission of basic info about engine like no. of valves, bore X stroke, gear ratio since this has been provided in the V.2.0 page.
Can anyone please post the specification page from manual ?.
The fairing design also looks bit different and R15S has bit more wide opening when looked from front. I thought they should have used same parts just for the sake of cost cutting. But they didnt. they purposefully designed different fairing. Looks like these two are way more different in design than they appears on paper. Mileage is also differ very much.
Sorry i didnt mean to create confusion but wanted to clear ourselves before making decision.
Thanks.
You've really done some detailed research regarding the subtle differences between the V2 & R15S
You are right in observing the slight differences in the feel of both bikes when ridden back to back. I have experienced the same too, but I think it is due to the fact that the seating position is slightly altered due to the differences in the shape of the seat as well as the minor variation in the weight distribution of both bikes. (The R15s has 3 KGs less weight on the rear due to revised tail assembly) which makes the R15s feel just a slight bit more front heavy than the V2.
To be honest though the feel among both bikes is not like Night Vs. Day as the author of the article in that link mentions, It is like nitpicking faults in an otherwise excellent handling platform that both the bikes are built upon.
There are also slight differences in the body panels of these bikes, but those are fairly cosmetic in nature.
I'm sure the omission of technical specs on the R15s webpage was due to a lazy PR person who didn't do their homework and did a half-assed job of updating the correct info on the official website. As any owner here who has had their tappet adjustments done can confirm for you that R15s indeed has a 4-valve set-up vis-a-vis the V2.0 and there is no reason for you to be skeptical of this.
If you want further clarity on the fact then check out this body panel of the R15s which says 'LC4V' an acronym for Liquid Cooled 4 Valve.
While the mileage is totally dependent on how liberal you are with your right hand, it could range anywhere between 35 to 45 kmp/l.
Both the R15s and the R15 V2.0 are quite sensitive in terms of maintaining their full performance. You must maintain correct Tyre pressure, chain slack, lubrication, etc. If either is out of spec then you will feel the bike under-performs. So there is a chance the test ride bike you rode may not have been as good as a well maintained unit.
No need to be sorry man, you're just trying to get some input before making an informed judgement. All the best!
Cheers!

Read my answer above, I don't think it makes sense to get a paint protection coat which costs about 8-10% of the bike's value. But then people may have different opinions about this; What do you say?
