Hi there,
Looking for some suggestions on a weird little niggle that I am experiencing my 2016 R15-S covered about 10K KMS in 11 months.

So whenever I am riding at slow speeds (below 15-20 kmp/h) I feel that the handlebar movement is slightly loose and moves much more freely than usual from side to side.

Now I have tried applying the front brakes and putting weight on the front suspension and rocking it back and forth to check for worn cone set. But didn't get any weird 'tak-tak' sound as one may expect from a shot cone set.

Also there are no weird noises when riding the bike, braking hard or riding over potholes.

However as soon as the bike picks up speed, handling becomes 10/10. But at slow speeds I am always conscious of this weird loose steering feel.

Is it possible for the steering nuts to come slightly loose on their own or something? I'm really not sure how to go about this. Any suggestions are welcome!

Update 1: Fixed
The wonky steering was due to lack of lubing in the upper racer causing some resistance; After a heavy application of Lubricant spray in and around the top area of ball racers, the handling is back to normal and feels consistent.

Most likely the guy who washed my bike may have been too enthusiastic with the water jet, washing away grease from that area. Will get cone-set greased/overhauled at next service in 1500 KMs.

Check this... the engine oil level is OK. Also checked the coolant level in cold condition. It was exactly between the high and low mark.

The fluids in the bike seem to be OK.
Maybe I need to give it a wash?

Maybe they want to offset the free labor charge. Thanks for letting me know. Will take this up with Yamaha India.
Also will check the oil level.

Now, you check the engine oil level with the dipstick method (follow manual). While checking Engine oil level make sure the bike is in vertical position (not in side stand).

P.S. The engine oil (Yamalube Sporty) is 450/- & Oil Filter is 167/-, but they took 550/- & 200/- respectively, why I do not know.

Can you upload the service bill here. I think the mechanic did something wrong while draining or pouring engine oil. Check Engine oil level. If it is okay, then may be some other issue.

Hi guys. Need some insight on a situation.

I have done 9.5k km on the odo. All my services have been on schedule. The last service was done in July.
Ever since the last service, twice it has happened that during a ride, the engine temperature warning light switched on.
At first time, i was able to continue moving and so the light switched off soon enough. This was about a month ago.
At the second time that is today, i was stuck in traffic so I decided to park it aside and switch the engine off. I kept the power on so the fan kept working. And after a few minutes, the engine was able to cool enough so that the temperature warning light switched off. Then I switched off power and let the bike cool a bit more naturally for a few more minutes. I was then able to ride the bike home normally.

My question is- is this normal?
Why is the engine heating up? Could it be too much muck on the radiator because of the rains?
I haven't really washed the bike after the service, and the only wash the bike has gotten since is the rain.
But I did check the radiator after I parked my bike and it looked as clean as it can possibly be during the monsoon.
I also checked the coolant level, it was also normal and sufficiently above the low level mark.
What confuses me most is that the bike has seen hotter days in worse traffic during the summer without any issues. And this is why I am forced to think that the mechanic must have done something wrong during the last service.
Thoughts?

There's no need to worry. New bike will get hot easily for first 1000 to 2000 KMs. Get the oil replaced at 1000 kms.

And no, don't limit to 4K rpm, you can take it up to 5K and can give occasional boosts to even a little higher. It's totally harmless.
Just keep varying the RPMs in each gear. Don't lug the engine by pampering it overly.

If you didn't get engine heat warning so far you are good to go. As my bike is also new & I'm 200kms away for my 1st service & I did a 130kms trip yesterday with 0 problems.

My suggestions will be....
1. Don't push your bike above 4k rpm or 50 kmph.
2. Give 5 min break after every 45 min ride so engine can cool down.

Guys, need your quick help.

I bought my R15S on 28th July. I was able to clock only ~700 kms so far due to work and rains. I feel the engine is now getting too hot in crawling traffic which wasn't the case during the first few 100 kms. Does it mean the engine oil should be replaced? My first service is due in 3 days and I was planning for a 120 km trip tomorrow just to add more kms. Should I go for the trip and then do the service or since the engine is getting hot should I go for the service tomorrow?

Well, tbh at every service, I've been complaining to them of a distinct metallic noise from the engine at higher RPMs(North of ~6K) which was anything unlike the loose tappet noise at idle, I kinda got accustomed to that. I never had idle tappet noise but still at every service I made sure they set them to factory setting. On my 5th free service this summer, I was told that the tappets were too tight and they gave them some clearance, so I was assured on that front. But(thus) you may be close to be right on this.

I'm still wondering if the engine oil was 50% gone, why did the engine health light not come up or even the overheating light! Baffles me.
Not sure about the make of Piston, I can confirm with them though.

I'm just glad that you are ok mate. regarding the change of engine oil. when you take the bike for inspection, request the mech to open and show you the oil filter. If it sparkles in bright light (metal filings), change the oil and filter, else no need. Ride safe brother.

Thanks for the update. It seems to be like incorrect tappet adjustment causing the valve guide to fail early or it could be a factory error with a faulty guide to begin with. The reason for the seal to fail could be the excess clearance between valve stem and guide which makes it wobbly and tear of the seal. Wish Yamaha uses low oil pressure switch which can warn us in such situations and also failure of oil pump. From the pics it looks still cylinder kits are Indonesia make. Are the pistons from usha or some other make.
