This is not a bearing / cone set issue but a workmanship issue. Pls find a efficient mechanic / ASC and get it sorted.

The company gives the order as to the quality of the parts and the cost. They have no excuse when it comes to quality of any part in most cases. That's why they replace parts when it's found to be inferior for the job.

For example, the Thunderbird 500 uses the same FI as the CBR250, but some 500 owners have FI problems, and converted their FI into a carb unit. Never heard of a CBR250 guy doing the same. It could be due to fitment/vibrations issues or quality issues in RE.

Guys, I am planning to start riding long trips on my Himalayan. Can anyone suggest me riding gears and the minimum budget (not at the expense of safety) for the same? Also, please let me know where can I buy gears from in Bangalore or online.
Gears as in from full face helmets, gloves, jacket, trousers and shoes. Let me know if I missed something.

              Thanks.

Yep, those are two great options.

And since you’ve asked, here’s what I ended up spending as per my ‘budget yet safe’ target list:

                    1. Helmet: MT Thunder 3 - ₹6250 - Tried & then bought.

                    2. Jacket: Summer rides : Scimitar Transition - ₹5250 (armour CE rated / upgradeable) - Tried & then bought.

                    3. Summer Gloves: Cramster Flux - ₹1850 - Cramster online - now wish I’d bought something that has palm padding

                    4. Riding pants - all weather - looking at the Rynox Advento ₹8250 - not decided yet though.

                    5. Boots - waterproof - decided on Quechua Hiking boots from Decathalon - ₹2000/2500

Hope this helps & enjoy the high of shopping for riding gears! [emoji3][emoji1308]

Has anyone here changed their steering stem taper roller bearing with NON OE aftermarket bearings from a reputed company(SKF/Timken/NBC) ?
If yes, kindly elaborate on experience and kms done?

Reading all the post makes me feel insecure with Himalayan :/ I know there are lot of issues but I thought bs4 will eliminate all that..Brainstorming since one month..and this is the one which fits my category.. I do 70% touring and 30% city commute...any bs4 owners can give a detailed long term review?? I suppose it's been close to six months when bs4 was launched..

If bearing number and the type are matched, one can go ahead with a change of brands. I'm no expert in motorcycle mechanicals - I'm speaking from my knowledge of repairs we get done on the high speed machines in my production unit.

Technically, most issues are caused during their installation - hammering them into place or when their axis is not aligned correctly. The damage is felt after a period of time.

This is just my two cents, why not just have a chat with any good moto-mechanic you know to gain a better insight? Hope you'll update us with your insights later. Cheers!

A simple puncture can ground the Himalayan. One poor guy had his bike towed the same day he bought it. I don't know about you, but tubeless tyres are more important than 60mm extra GC to me.

Unless your tours take you through tough off-road tracks which need high ground clearance and off road tyres, consider the humble CBR250, KTMs the Yamaha R3 or the upcoming Hero Impulse. There are very few places the Himalayan can go where other normal, ~150 mm GC bikes can't. In fact there is a video of one guy on a Tiger who rushed his mighty steed into a river only to get stuck in the middle swinging his legs up and down to move the bike like a 11 year old girl on a pommel.

It depends on the type of usage (touring), if you are more into adventure touring then go for REH, if the mojor part of touring is on the roads (less off road) then I would suggest to go for FZ25 or Dominar.

If you are reading too much on the internet then you will end-up as a confused.

So I went along with my buddy to the RE showroom today. He’d wanted to check up on his BS4 delivery status, since it was well past 30 days since the booking date.

We got a very tight lipped, one sentence reply that it’ll take a week or two more. And the sales guy went about his business. No apologies, not one glance more.

So we left. Sat down at the nearby coffee shop trying to not let the irritation get to us, had a coffee over minimal conversation and parted ways for the evening.

Sadly, somethings never change, do they? Sigh.
