The motor is derived from the 'Honda Cub' which on its own was declared as the greatest ever motorcycle in the world by Discovery Channel due to its reliability;

Can't believe I'm saying this but Castrol Power 1 20W50 is working wonders for me, done 600+ km's so far.
Not saying more, I'll let my stat's do the rest of the talking.
1. Ilaveezhapoonjira and Illikkal Kallu (21-01-2018)
2. Rosemala (19-02-2018)
* Both routes had hard to ride terrain and I don't ride for top speeds, the figures seen are achieved by usual riding through Kerala roads. The cyclocomputer is set up to show true speed and not speedo indicated speed which would roughly be 5 ~ 6 kmph more.Motorcycling Experience:

Re: Bajaj CT100B
Update at 27,000 KMS.
Yesterday my Bike completed 27,000 KMS and I would like share my experience so far.
The bike is still looking like new after 7 months of purchase. The fuel economy is anything above 85+ kmpl. There is not a single fault (not even minor). The bike is being used heavily on highways & city. The smoothness is still the same. Even the gear shifting is smooth as new. I am changing oil at 5,000 kms interval.
Will keep posting my experience in coming months.

Re: Bajaj CT100B
Hello Everyone,
Writing on this site after a very long time. Again my rant continues about the mileage. I am still getting a very low mileage of 50 kmpl, even after riding on a highway at 40-45 kmph.
Went to the ASC guys in October 2017, they took a test ride to the check the mileage with 100 ml of petrol using the bottle connecting directly to the engine (bypassing the fuel tank), to my astonishment, the bike gave 60kmpl. I dont know what i am doing wrong with the bike that i get such a bad fuel economy. I am really fed up of this bike. The only reason for buying this bike was its mileage. It really surprises me when people says they are getting 75+ to 85+ kmpl.
A couple of days ago (feb 1 2018), changed engine oil (Bajaj 10w50), the seller said it is okay when i asked to give 20w40 graded one, later on found out, 10w30 is the recomended. Please advise.
What should i do with the bike? being my very first bike, i like/attached to it, but the mileage i am getting, i am thinking of selling it and buying a scooty instead.
My riding style is by the book. No excessive throttling. Never going above 50 unless required (except for highway when i go upto 75). It has been 15 months since i bought this bike and never ever did i got a satisfying average. Sometimes (In january 2018) i got average of 36 kmpl (filled petrol immediately on reserve of 1 liter and then 36 km on, it again went in reserve). I thought someone was stealing the petrol, so even got a petrol lock, but again got 36 kmpl thrice on a trot (hence changed engine oil as mentioned above). After pouring in this above mentioned engine oil, it seems like there is no pick up left in the bike..It feels sluggish and like the bike is about to go into reserve (engine having hiccups) (but it does not happen).
Please advise me all those are have expertise in this matter.
I will be highly thankful to you.

stick to a w40 or w30 oil.. w50 is probably too 'heavy' for this motor.Originally posted by SimpleGmail View PostHello Everyone,

the ideal way to check the FE would be the tankful to tankful method.. not reserve calculations.
and yeh when you use the 100ml bottle to do a mileage check, expect around a 10% bump.
now, i am skeptical of folks who claim 75+ FE in normal conditions.. i think 60 ish would be a more real world figure if ridden sanely in the city and a bit more if on the highway.
have you ever replaced the air filter on the bike ?
i suggest you take it to a different svc, or a good local mechanic (these bikes are pretty easy to fix up by most mechanics) and get the carburetor cleaned/inspected/adjusted, a new air filter (if it hasnt been replaced in a while) and make sure there are no leaks around the air filter/carb connection.
if you are using some aftermarket petcock with a lock, make sure there isn't a leak from it (i've seen it happen on some units over time).
Also get the valve clearances adjust to spec. and finally if possible get a compression test done (which most svc's can do, but will not do)
does your bike 'rev' more compared to the speed it achieves ? (this might be indicative of worn clutch plates).

10w30 is recommended, stick to it. 10w50 or 20w40 won't harm in the short run atleast, to cause you low mileage especially in the range specified by you 36-50kmpl.
Check the mileage Reserve to Reserve on flat roads over 3-4 times and then take the average. Don't fill more than half tank if you're a city rider.
Like s1d said, get your carburettor, valve settings checked. As your bike is under warranty, take it up with Bajaj H.O. on the social media platforms.
The ASC shouldn't have accepted 60kmpl in the 100ml test. The claimed fuel economy is 89.5kmpl as per ARAI, which was advertised by Bajaj when they were selling the bike.
Also instead of sticking to 50kmph, try staying close to 40kmph, while on the roads. Get the work (servicing) done in front of you (Timing, Valve clearances, carburettor setting etc.)
Your bike is fine, it is just that you have nitwits as your service personnel.

Re: Bajaj CT100B
Hi Guys,
I have a ct100b kick start clocked 10k. Getting an average of 60kmpl give or take while riding around 45-50kmph. I have a few minor concerns with this bike which you guys can help me out with.
1) Riding around 45-50 kmph the vibration is an issue. I changed the handlebars to pulsars with bar end weights and that does help a bit but the issue still remains. I don't see any loose bolts or tyre alignment issues/wobbling etc. Is this normal on this bike ? Any other things i can get checked?
2) The bike does seem like it needs a 5th gear desperately. I feel a lot of unused torque in 4th gear and adding a fifth gear would really help on highway riding. Definitely that is not a easy job but i was thinking if we can change the front sprocket (14T) to that of a pulsar(15T) would help improve the situation marginally. Yes it will loose some torque but i have mostly highway commute so can manage. Anybody did this already or know if this is an easy swap / possibly any other suitable 15T candidate? Any rear sprocket (37. 38 T) that would easily fit this? current one is 42T.
3) Mileage claimed by bajaj was 80 kmpl but i never got that figure. Tankful to tankful avg method gave me 65kmpl tops. I do suspect evaporation to be an issue as the fuel lid is not supertight and when you smell around the cap it gives a strong smell of petrol. I must say i have not noticed this issue on my other bikes. Also to add when i do a fuel tap on off test (bike already in motion @40kmph) i get to ride 1 km, what would be the approx amount of fuel present in the carb (considering fuel in tube to be negligible), any ideas?
TIA.

I know what you mean when you say that it feels as if the bike could go faster and the 5th gear is sorely missed.
My suggestion is do not change the sprockets or anything in the thereabouts.
About the fuel tap on-off method, 1-1.2Kms sounds about right for 60-65KmpLon the road. Don't know how much fuel there is in the carburettor.
To understand how much your riding pattern affects mileage, do the 100mL test.
Buy the fuel test bottle from Amzn or some other place. Fill 100mL from your tank into the bottle, reconnect your carburettor to the fuel tank. Go to your nearest highway or broad empty stretch of road. Once you reach there, note the odometer reading, disconnect your fuel tank from your carburettor and connect the bottle, start the fuel and drive @35-40Kmph till your engine stops. Note the reading, subtract the first reading from the second, multiply this difference by 10 for fuel efficiency in KmpL.
For the fuel tank thing, park in the shade on the main stand. Also check the rubber 'O' rings under the screws securing the lid to the fuel tank. It doesn't smell strongly of petrol normally, if above things are done.
All the best & happy riding. I do hope if someone has made these mods as requested by you, they will guide you suitably.

13 days, 14 states, 7600 km's.
Completed the Golden Quadrilateral circuit on my CT100B.
The motorcycle performed brilliantly and saying that would be an understatement as she was pinned at WOT for 99% of the time, oil change was done within 2000~2500 km's range. Castrol Power 1 20W50 made her more rev friendly where as Shell AX5 20W50 and Valvoline 4T Premium 20W50 made her a bit sluggish at times. She did 100kmph true speed as per the attached cyclocomputer while clocking 115+kmph on the speedometer. There was mild tappet noise when the motor was hot after riding for 150+km's at a stretch but vanished after a short break. Overall the experience was wonderful.Motorcycling Experience:

As for the CT100B, it is by far the most reliable motor I've used to date and that is something coming from a person whose done 1300+ km's in a day on the Hero Honda Karizma. My co-rider was riding a Royal Enfield Bullet 500, the motor was running at relaxed RPM's with short bursts to 120+ kmph at times and by the end of the ride the speedo started getting stuck, the ignition set malfunctioned(key would slip out in ON position), front forks(straightened and overhauled before ride) started leaking, the bike started giving out smoke at high RPM's due to clogged air filter(Newly changed before the ride). In short the motorcycle was serviced for 20k+, where as the CT100B started with only new oil, the air filter had 1.5k km's on it when the ride started and wasn't changed(only because I forgot to take the spare along).
Total cost of fuel was 8982.74/- (Roughly around 60 kmpl, decent for so much riding at WOT).
Total cost of Food/Water and Accommodation(Shared by 2) was 6000/-.
Total cost for Motorcycle Consumables(Oil) was 1400/-.
So in short the total expense for the ride was under 16.5k, as expensive as a decent smart phone.
