  • Re: Bajaj CT100B

Last weekend we did a 810kms 2 day run to Valparai and back.

The last time we did the same it was 1300+, kms on the Discover 100 4G in a day due to inadequate planning.

She fared well, considering that the Air Filter hasn't been cleaned or replaced yet at 5.5k on the ODO, I believe I'd replace it at 7.5k.

As for niggles I did observe a minor vapor leak around the crank case breather but I guess it's mostly due to the continuous high revving.

All in all, I still stand by my claim that this is a swell motorcycle.

    Update:

I changed the Air Filter at 5710 kms, 710 kms above my usual mark as the symptoms of running rich were ever too prominent.

On removal the old filter had caked carbon/dirt residue, which was a first for me and coming to think of it I should've snapped a picture(which I didn't as removing it made my hands real dirty resulting in me disposing it A.S.A.P) of the same as a reminder to strictly change the filter at 5k intervals.

Okay so my bike is 1,000 kms run. 8 months old. Yes, I know I use it very less. Lol.

I've got 2 free service done. I've a few questions regarding bike, experienced and owners with lots of miles please suggest me.

        1. Can I take this bike for a long tour? I'm planning to go to Rajasthan tour in December, I'm in Mumbai right now.

        2. I am planning to cover 300 kms everyday. What speed should I maintain to not damage the bike engine and other component?

        3. What spare parts should I carry? If I take this bike.

Any other tips, suggestions are more than welcome.

P.S. I'm a noob, but I really want to start riding and explore.

The good thing about this bike is that it's a no nonsense bike. I have done many long trips on a lite bike like this before graduating to a heavier bike and now I feel this was more convenient and fun.

The best part is that the spares are easily available most of the mechanics know their way around these bikes.

Since I prefer riding out at nights I would get my headlights adjusted and move to tubeless tyres as even if punctured you can ride on albeit slowly to a puncture shop.

            To answer your questions:

            1. Yes. The bike will be able to do the trip without any issues.

2.To ensure maximum mileage maintain a steady speed of 50 - 60. This way the engine will not be stressed AT ALL... And you would not be spending a lot on petrol.

Take a break every hour or so... The bike would not need it but you would!!

            3.
            A. Carry a spare bulb for the headlight if riding at night.
            B. Change the tyres to tubeless if not already and carry a puncture kit.
            C. Carry an extra clutch wire and an extra brake line.
            D. Bungee cords.
            E. Less cash, just enough for the road expenses on a day to day basis.
            F. Medical kit

Try a few shorter trips... This way you will get to know the bike, and also know what changes have to be made before you go on the big trip.

If I were you I would change to synthetic oil, replace the breaks, get a new battery, new tyres and a complete engine overhaul. Also I would do these about 15 days before the trip as I would have time to make additional changes if required.

            Have fun ride safe.

P.S. you are not a noob any more.

Thanks bro. Highly appreciate your response. Few more queries.

              1. I'll be riding with a friend who has dominar 400 [emoji14] he is already going nuts with my idea of bringing this bike. Would it be okay if I rode this bike at 75-80 kmph and what mileage should I be expecting?

              2. Why would I need to change my tube tires? Lots of Enfield riders do your on tube tires, right?

              3. My bike is almost like new, why the need to change brakes and do engine overhaul?

                Hi.
About your questions and responses as seen above.

Disclaimer: I just have three 400kms trips on my record, so not much of an ultralong trip expert (one of which was on Bajaj CT100).

Plan your trip in advance, the route, the place of stay etc. Carry spares like brake & clutch cables. A screw driver and an adjustable spanner. Don't carry a backpack. Travel light. Apply sunscreen on exposed skin.

Your bike is new and I don't think you will need the spares. Your bike will survive the trip and is comfortable. Stop every hour and hydrate yourself. 75kmph is okay, no problem.

Now the things of concern that I want to highlight.

You are a self proclaimed noob, having ridden just 1000kms in 8 months. Your bike is still in its running in period. 1000-2000kms only 75kmph is permissible. Higher than that you will damage your engine in the long term.
You still have 2 months with you to reach the 2000kms readout on your odometer.
However even if you are free from the running in period speed constraints, your bike can go upto 80-85kmph easy but beyond that even on an empty highway requires a really really long stretch of road and extra efforts. Other bikes like your friend's Dominar will cruise by you with ease and so effortlessly that it may end up frustrating you unless you are Zen about it. Your mind is running faster but your bike isn't keeping up with that pace.

Your friend may get frustrated knowing fully well that his bike's capacity is being underutilized and he has to stick to 75-80kmph whereas he can easily cruise at 120kmph or above...

Your mileage even with the 75-80kmph will be in the 75+ kmpl range.

Do step out for shorter trips 100kms / 200kms before you go for this one. And remember the Ceat advts., they are made for a reason...

My suggestion get more riding experience on your bike and then go for it. However if you do go ahead, drive carefully and responsibly with safety gear in place.

That is a very enlightening answer bro. You cleared lots of my doubts which were lurking in the darkness of my mind.

I've recently done 150 kms trip. I'll take your advice and start riding it more so that I pass the break in period. I'll keep you guys posted about my trips and updates.

                    Hi All,

On Oct 3, 2017, I got my 3rd service of my Bajaj CT100B.

Here are the issues that i was facing in my bike which i told the person attending to my bike:
                    1. There was a screeching sound when using the rear break.
                    2. Odometer was stuck and not moving whereas speedometer was working fine.
                    3. The bike was giving me jerk with using the front break.

After 6 hours, the service was completed.
                    Screeching sound gone.
They said Odometer set need replacement and since it wasnt available with them right then, they would give me a call when one is available and replace free of cost.
Jerk with using front break no longer present.

Engine oil replaced. Total cost of 3rd free service Nil except Rs. 410 for engine oil change.

Now the bike is working smooth and fine. No issues.

They told me from next servicing it will cost around Rs.1200 per service. Would anyone give me input as to whether i should give it to them for service or to a nearby mechanic?

I asked about the AMC (annual maintenance charge) and they said since GST, they have not implemented AMC yet (almost 4 month gone by) and they didnt knew when AMC will be back.

I cannot update you guys regarding my average as the odometer is not working. Will update once the reading starts back.

                    Thanks and regards

We get 4 free services bro.. make sure you get all of them.. and as for service centre I would suggest sticking to ASC as warranty depends on it.. so for at least 2 years from purchase of bike just stay with ASC unless you know of a very good mechanic of you consider yourself one..

Take the oil yourself, branded oils are cheaper as compared to what they sell.
Local shops sell at less than MRP, either that or online marketplace 'A'.

As long as the oil is as per manufacturer recommended specifications, they will have to accept it.

Then cost of service (excluding cost of oil) should be in the range of 400/500 only (including labour and taxes).

Hopefully they will figure out something by the time of your next service regarding the AMC. All the best.

Then cost of service (excluding cost of oil) should be in the range of 400/500 only (including labour and taxes).

Hopefully they will figure out something by the time of your next service regarding the AMC. All the best.
They will not let you use any other oil. 2nd, Bajaj is semi-synthetic I think. I got shell advance AX7 and it costs 400/-. MRP is 425/-. Bajaj is 370/-. On 'A' too, Shell costs 425/-.

Yes. They will argue, as their margins depend on it. They sell it to you at MRP.

Is this earlier version of CT100 (with replace-able oil filter)? Worth a read ...
