Re: TVS Apache RTR 200 4V

I have booked Apache 200 4v carb, pirelli tyres, matt red color 2 months back. But Dealer(Jayanagar Bangalore) told me that they have not received any red color variant with Pirelli tyres.
Now I am frustrated, so thinking of cancelling and wait for EFI model itself. What you say guys is it worth to wait for EFI engine? How long it may take?
Dealers here doesn't have any clue what so ever about bike production and delivery dates ! So can't trust them anymore

Today morning, spotted a RTR200 wearing camouflage, only the headlight and front mudguard was visible. This time I saw the bike in Chennai.
Not sure as to why TVS is still using a camo on the launched RTR200..

              Quick Comparision between RTR200, P220 & Karizma 2014.

RTR200 will be a direct competitor to P220 & Karizma. Atlast, TVS has competition to these 10 year old machines. But I have to say NVH level is impressive in RTR200 & beats both 220 & Karizma. RTR200 is very smooth to drive. 220 is the roughest engine here, but it has an "Nostalgia" of it's own
. RTR200 & P220 employ a balancer gear inside the engine. RTR200 also has the best finishing & build quality.

Engine behaviour. P220 is very toruqy, rough & Grunty. Just like a Tiger. Mile muncher, Best torque & cruising ability of all 3 here.

Karizma 2014 V2 no longer feels buttery like before. V2 version engines feel dry & stressed. But it is too a torquey mile muncher.

RTR200: Smooth. Feels new gen. engine, yet feels simplifed. Best refinement. Smooth silent, no valve or cam noises. Acceleration is typical RTR. Torque is not impressive, but sufficient. Cannot cruise in highways, But it has 4 valves, lesser stress on engine, it breathes better in higher speeds.

Aerodynamics are better in P220 & Karizma, high speed stability is very good in P220. Handling is superb in RTR200, much better than the rest. All 3 are comfortable to drive, even for a 6 footer.

ABS Safety is available as optional in RTR200. P220 has powerful projector headlamps & a intelligent BCU. Karizma scores the least here, with incompetant rear drum brakes which are prone to skidding. RTR200 brakes are very precise, followed by P220. Karizma brakes are technically unsafe, with huge front disc & 130mm drums at rear, for a 225cc mill, inadequate.

Maintainance: P220 has a vey wide spare & service support, highly affordable part cost. But servicing a 220 is not an easy task, given it's old gen. engine & low quality parts. Karizma parts are expensive & hard to find. RTR200 spares are yet to arrive, but guessing the price will be between Bajaj & Hero. I can surely say that maintaining a RTR200 will be much simpler than a P220.

I wish, TVS had released RTR200 a few years ago. I also wish there would be a 6th gear in RTR200 to aid cruising. Overall RTR200 is a decent package motorcycle, primarily made for race tracks & city use. Not a mile muncher. TVS is much behind the competition, as always. Bajaj has already released AS200, which under same price range, beats all the motorcycles mentioned here.

Pro: Super NVH, Comfortable, ABS, Very good Build quality.
Con: Lacks 6th gear, cannot outperform the competition, not for highways, many technical cons yet to be experienced.

WO Sab to thik hai Lekin ABS version ayega kab ?

Last week heard from a local dealer that TVS had an event in Bangalore where they gave free test ride to public and note down there feedbacks. Hence they have shelved ABS/Fi for now, after tweaking bike according to the feedback then and only then they will launch the ABS/Fi version.

                  Dear marmiteminer,
                  Nice comparison. But,
I would like to say that each bike has been designed for a particular reason. A bike can not be an all rounder.
Based on the buyer's needs he/she have to choose the bike.
RTR 200 is a naked bike made for the city.
It does that job extremely well. I would disagree about your point on RTR 200's torque. It's a very torquey machine. It'll be a hoot to ride in city and ghat sections.

Regarding highway touring, yes you'll miss the 6th gear and face windblast a lot. However, would that stop you from touring?
It would definitely not stop me.
I used to tour on my Honda Dazzler and I'm sure RTR 200 will do more than just fine.
Besides, the showroom people told the visor for RTR 200 is going to be available soon which will help in reducing the windblast.

I believe whatever bike you have is the right bike for touring:P

I'm dead against people saying that AS200 is the winner when compared to RTR200.
                  Seriously?
I don't think a bike should be judged just by its performance. And just because a bike has best performance it doesn't mean it's VFM. It depends from person to person.
A bike should be judged based on the overall package it offers. And IMO RTR 200 is better than AS200 and that's the reason I bought it.

If you have doubts regarding touring on RTR 200, you should read The Monk's blog.
Three guys covered a total of 10,000 kms on RTR 200.
                  10000km on the TVS Apache RTR 200 4V! - xBhp.com xBhp.com

And ya, on paper comparison and in reality there will be lot of differences.

I mean no offense, just sharing my opinion. :P

+1 A motorcycle should serve ones purpose. If you have only touring on mind you can go for CBR 250. But then RTR can serve city as well as touring.
@scooby.. ABS is going to be plug and play on RTR.

                        Less torque, phuff! 😂

Anyway, performance is never judged on hp output. Oh wait what? 25bhp machine just .4 seconds faster on the track (with abs vs without abs). Just reminding hehe

Anyway, enjoy your bike. Please throw some more light on the trip F please.

                          1. The front wheel of the bike had weight added for wheel/weight balancing.
                          2. The odo meter showed 4.5 kms and the top speed showed 84kmph. I questioned the sales guy and they told the bike would be tested on a belt. He also told some vehicles would have 100 or 100+.
                          3. The carburetor version doesn't get the USB mobile charger under the seat. It is available only for FI variant. (Cross checked with other carb bikes and it didn't have it)
                          4. The biggest BLUNDER I observed was, the software for the digital console has a bug. I was able to reset the entire console. THE ODO METER GOT RESET, SO DID TOP SPEED RECORDER AND EVERYTHING ELSE.
When I went to Bajaj Plant at Chakan for an Industrial visit with my students, they did test each bike on a Dyno, right in front of me. The dyno had some digital values which I couldn't see from far, but apparently it was being tested for any bottlenecks, if they exist.
But it was definitely not a very long test, not long enough for 4.5 kms I assure you. I have no memory of whether the front wheel was rotating on the dyno or not.

So, I suspect the salesguy might not be completely false after all.

The RAM Air stuff is cool, I like it.

                          Anyways, have fun.

Actually, my friend spotted a RTR200 ABS on Hosur Road without any camo.
May be a D-Fi RTR still under test. Probably TVS din't bother to remove the camo of the test D-fi RTR after the launch. Or TVS is doing long term testing on the RTR to find out any long term issues or failures.
May be a next gen younger sibling of the RTR200.
