  • I have 2018 RTR 200 ABS and have few questions.
Would highly appreciate if members could enlighten me.

    1. Is there any way to solve the ignition issue apart from tuning the carb? Why other oil-cooled bikes dont face such issue?

    2. Please suggest chain lube that is cost effective and can replace Motul.

    3. What do you think about TRM Calidad lube?

    4. Recently I did some chain adjustment (loosened) but I noticed that post adjustment whenever I went through a rough patch or pothole there is tak tak sound which is like the chain is hitting a fibre part. It usually sound louder while there is pillion weighing more than me. Before adjustment it was so tight that chain used to sound as if it is grinding and there would be tremendous vibrations.

I always face this issue after a month of servicing at TVS ASC. It gets worse as the lube gets dried and even after applying lube it wont go.

    Need suggestions on above issue.

    • Hi guys, recently seem to have run into some trouble with my RTR 200. The air fuel screw is stuck and does not rotate no matter how much I try. Any solutions to that? Thank you

Try spraying a penetrant, i.e. a penetrating fluid, such as Zorrik or WD40 around the periphery of the AFR screw and let it sit for an a couple of hours and then try, GENtly. Using brute force screwing in or out can damage the tip of the jet or worse strip the threads, and it's game over. Proceed with caution and with little patience and luck, you can undo it. Good luck.

        Cheers!

Once upon a time, a guy asked a girl 'Will you marry me?'
        The girl said, 'NO!'

And the guy lived happily ever after and rode motorcycles and watched sport on a big screen TV, went fishing and surfing, and played golf a lot, and drank beer and scotch and had tons of money in the bank and left the toilet seat up and farted whenever he wanted.

        • Hi Group

Any suggestions for rear tyre for Apache 200. My old ones are Pirelli Angel CT upsized to 140/70. Last I had researched in 2018, there were two options available: 140/70-17 MASSETER-X MCT TL and Pirelli Sport Demon 140/70 - 17 M/C 66H TL. Last time I could not get PSD, hence had to settle for Pirelli Angel CT. I don't have complaints for Angel CT but wanted to check if any better options are available.

          • Hi guys. My Apache RTR 200 display console went blank (again). First time it was replaced under warranty. Now SVC is denying replacing under warranty since I missed a service in between. SVC is quoting around 9k for this thing, and I'm not convinced it will cost that much. Could you point me to a reliable source where I can buy the speedo console?
Mine is a RTR 200 2019 BS4 Race Edition 2.0 carb model with dual channel ABS.
            Thanks!

I think the price is correct.

              • Hi All.

My Apache RTR '18 RE 2.0 needs chain and tyre replacement both Front n Rear. Please suggest chain sprocket set if they are better than those from TVS. Also need guidance on tyres which are cost effective but with better grip than Remora. I mostly commute between work and home and no hard riding. Please share multiple option if possible. Since long time I am trying to figure out solution to cold start issue. I know that using choke is one solution but what can be a permanent solution to this issue.

                Thanks!

                • What is wrong with (temporary applying) Choke on engines which are not fuel injected?
My bike ride with the lowest temperature was during -27°C (old times in Southern Bavaria, before everyone spoke about global warming).
Fuel injection works even better and automatically in many different conditions, but an aftermarket change with the pump, sensors and electronics will probably be out of question.

For tyres, I prefer the local Heidenau brand. Or Bridgestone, Continental, Dunlop, Michelin, ... They know our climate with annual snow&ice. But in many parts of India these tyres might "melt away". Don't your local manufacturers give recommendations for a specific tyre like winter/all season/summer or 80% (etc.) road (rest offroad)?

I dont see anything wrong in using choke but not frequently. Mine is a carb variant hence wanted to know if there is any solution or workaround. Also manufacturer suggest only tyre size and not tyre brand. Since this forum has many enthusiast who have used tyres from multiple brands its good to know their opinions before going with one.

                    • But why not using the choke frequently? It's the standard operating procedure and also the fuel injected engines enrich the mixture during every single cold start.
Of course you should apply the choke only as much and as long as necessary.
If your bike starts without choke, good, you don't need it then. But maybe it is running too rich during normal operations?
I also have a 50cc 2-stroke where the choke is operated with the thumb (against a metal spring). Its very easy to gradually release it depending on engines (estimated) temperature and experienced responsiveness.

Probably you are right and I should stop thinking about cold start as an issue in Apache as I have heard from other users that they also face this issue. I have noticed pickup is reduced in 1st n 2nd gear. While twisting throttle there is a lag and seems the engine will stall and to keep momentum I need to increase speed gradually. This doesnt help when I have to overtake other vehicle. What could be the problem? Is it spark plug, ignition relay, air filter or something else?

I really need help in this as I dont have trust in ASC and I dont have any reliable mechanic nearby.

                        • Choke just makes the mixture rich, which slightly increases power (if it is not too extreme - check the color of the spark plug?!). That mixture should not be the problem.

I know decreased max. rpm allowed during the cold phase from European power bikes, they indicate the currently max. available rpm on the dashboar#d too.
I don't know about your model, but if the rpm is indeed limited, it's for a good reason. Cold engine = cold oil, can't lubricate well, certainly not a high revving engine.
At zero degrees it takes 5-10km to heat up my several LC cooled bikes. Warm up riding smoothly!

The spark plug function depends on the temperatures too. There are spark plugs for different operating temperatures. So I suggest to check your plug!

Ignition relay and air filter are more far away from the engine.
In freezing fog conditions the air filter and/or carburetor can get clogged, but that's not typical for most parts of India. That's not a cold start issue, it can happen after hours and with warm engines too, if you to ride through this kind of weather.
