    • 2019 Yamaha FZ250 ABS (BS4)

Hey, guys, I have been riding the 2019 Yamaha fz250 abs for the past 10 months and have done 5000kms on the odometer, I have done long-distance touring of 300kms, Here I would like to share my experience on this machine.

ENGINE OIL USED: Yamalube 10w40 sporty premium
      TYRES: MRF ZAPPER (stock)
      TOP SPEED: 130 kmph
TOURS: Cbe to kava island, cbe to salem, cbe to siruvani water falls, cbe to bhavani sagar dam.
      VAlVE CLEARANCE: NOT YET
      SERVICES DONE: 2 free service.

      LIKES:
The comfortable seating position, seats are well cushioned.
Good fuel efficiency of 30-33 in city and 35 during highway rides
      Easy to filter in traffic
Engine heat dissipation is very good
      Low on maintenance
14L fuel tank and range 300 kms before trip F starts.
      Muscular design
      Good suspension
      Comfortable pillion seat
Can cruise all day at 90-100 kmph comfortably beyond that engine feels strained.

      DISLIKES:
The headlight is ok in city riding conditions, however useless in highway conditions
Tyres don't have good grip (MRF stock tyres)
Mudguards are not very useful they spray towards the exhaust and get baked, Yamaha should have extended the front mudguard a little more.
Gear is hard and not precise.
Crosswinds can make the front of the bike light and start to wobble if weight is not shifted to front it could result in a tank slapper
      Tappet noise.
      Rear abs very intrusive

      PROBLEMS FACED:
Oil smudges near alternator cap after highway ride. SVC guys used Some paste to tight the alternator side plastic cover.
SVC guys never do valve clearance check even when I insisted theeem to do.
Misalignment in fork tubes left side rider (POV) fork was slighter higher than on the right side.
Clutch lever lose/free play in first 1000kms
      Gear shifter linkage lose
      False neutrals at times.

This ownership experience will be continued...

      EDIT..

I own a 2019 fz250 abs version, with 5000kms on odo and two free services done ,the mileage I am getting is 30-32 in city with speed around 45-65kmph and 34.9 during highway riding (90-100kmph) . This mileage figure is based on the dashboard computer.

Greeting. This is my first post here. May be it is too long to read, but kindly share your thoughts if you could help.

I ride a 1st gen FZ25. This is my first (sports) bike I bought myself. Before I used to ride my dads Hero splendor.

Have done around 18k in FZ25. Completed 3 free service & 2 paid. I feel FZ25 performance is very good in city rides, a proper street fighter. But time to time, there was always some problems. Listed it down. Please share your thoughts.

          1. The showroom I bought my bike from is now closed permanently (Crystal Auto, Kanakapura road) and I took loan through them at IDFC First for 18 months. Will this affect my warranty or anything I need to worry about? Any rider in here bought bike from this showroom?
          2. Changed my read brake pad 2 times already (1st at 4k & 2nd at 9k) & front pad once (15k). SVC guys say that it is common in these 250cc bikes. Now I see my rear brake pad is at the verge of getting worn out. This is not much of a problem and I feel this is dependent on riding style.
          3. I commute to office daily around 30kms (one way), average around 60 to 70 kmph speed. I hear engine and tappet noise after riding for 30-40 minutes. I complained it to the SVC and they say this is normal in bikes with >250cc, which I doubt. Please enlighten me.
          4. Throttle was sluggish lately during slow speeds and sometimes engines turns off when I raise the throttle in slow speed and nearly took a fall more than a couple of times.
          5. Today I felt a weird problem, was riding to my work and nearing my office I stopped for tea. After 5 minutes I started the bike, but as if there was not enough power, engines wont start and console display goes off & comes back again. Horn was working and lights were too. So I believe the battery is good. Thought there might be an air block in tank, tried opening the tank cover and after few seconds closed and tried to start again, but in vain.
          6. After leaving the bike alone for 30 minutes, when I press the self-start button, I hear clicking noise in the engine and speedometer reading are increasing from 0 to 40 as if I'm riding.

I have gone through this thread and see many riders face some problems as mine, except for which I highlighted in bold.

When I try to write a complaint online in yamaha-motor-india website, I'm unable to select my dealer as they are closed permanently now.

Any guidance or thoughts will help me.
I was planning to buy NS200 or RE, but thinking about the brand yamaha and refinement I went for fz25. Wondering whether I have made a wrong choice.Cheers,
          Deepak
I can help you with few questions you have asked.

          2. djrulz I suggest you to visit SVC and tell the technician to lower the rear brake lever a little lower than the factory setting, the reason your brake pads are worn out so quickly is because I suspect your riding the brake.

          3. tappets are never adjusted by the SVC guys cause it's time consuming, they would work on two bikes than work on your valve clearance, they have no idea what the actual measurement are, I say this because I have experienced this twice during my first service and second , online tutorials suggest it's a simple DIY, I am a beginner too and I don't have the tools nor the courage to work on a brand new engine.

I asked the technician what's the recommended valve clearance for FZ25 is he suggested 1.5 for inlet and 1.7 for exhaust [emoji3064]Here I have attached a pic.The factory recommended data is attached pls check it out.

          4. I think your engine idle is on low, check the bike in FI station to have a clear idea on this, the system can identify any problems relating to engine temp, firing , battery voltage etc.Click image for larger version

I'm consistently getting 36.5kmpl in Chennai traffic. The route that I take is known for notorious traffic. If the traffic is less or during weekend city rides, the MID goes to 37.xx. The highest I got was 40kmpl during a long ride.

Note: All figures are as per MID and not tank-full method.

              Cheers!

Hi, im from Mumbai & own the 2019 ABS model; got done with the 3rd free service clocked almost 8000kms. My basic commute happens in the city 20kms per day for work on which i console shows 38.0-38.5 kmpl i have however achieved 43.0 while commuting from Mumbai to Pune. (once back in the city the milage drops at 38-38.5 again)

A lot also depends on the right RPM & gear shift manners/ traffic of the rider.

                  I have 2018 FZ25 model.
Here in Kathmandu, traffic congestion is notoriously high, so I get around 31kmpl.
At highway, I am getting around 45kmpl without pillion and 37kmpl with pillion.

*Mileage calculations are based on two consecutive full tank refill.

Earlier I used to use an app called FillUP but that could only keep fuel logs. This app is much better. It can keep track of service and other expenses

Welcome, this is the best app I have ever used.
I have been using this app since 2016.
Previously, I used to keep records of my Pulsar 220F.
                          Currently, FZ25

Hi all this is sivaaravindh from salem.
Sharing my short term(very)experience with my yamaha fz 25. For past one year i was looking for a motorcycle. Since i was a new comer i was looking for a 150-160cc sports commuters.finally after a test drive almost convinced my self to book a honda hornet160r. But i always had a lust😝 on fz 250 Becoz of how it looks and sounds and i got a chance to ride a fz25 and it was amaazing. since i had a budget issues i didn't consider fz 25 in my list. And in mid feb 2020 the yamaha unveiled fz25 bs6 and i was like why did they ****ed up with the design. Since honda also very lazy to launch the bs6 variant of honda hornet. I told my dad that i want to buy fz 25. Since it was my first bike he said ok. So we went to the showroom and asked for the booking of fz25 and they said that the company had stopped the production of fz25 bs4 and i was broken already. After a contacting the few showrooms in Coimbatore i got 3 fz25's in stock. So we went to Coimbatore and booked a matt blue version. We rode the bike all the way from Coimbatore to salem. It was a pleasant experience and the engine was very smooth.even though iam short 5feet4. i can comfortably handle the vehicle. The seats were also very comfortable. handling is too perfect.I was very happy that i made a right decision untill i heard that strange noise from the engine that you guys were familiar with. yes that rattling noise i was shocked that how a new engine can sound like this and i searched in internet. And knew that it was common in all fz's . I was slightly disappointed coz it was 1.63lacs on road.even though the sound is not always present i kind of disappointed that even other 160cc bikes are very refined than fz25. But i have to live with the sound so i started to ignore the sound for a few days. And all of a sudden my front brake lever starts to vibrate or pulsates when i apply brake. Then the abs warning light always present even after the bike moves. When i rotate the wheel with my hands the brake pads seems to be in contact with the disc a noise being observed. So a bend in the disc could possibly cause this? Asked a service centre guy he told me to come monday for the abs diagnosis. Don't know why happening this in a new bike anyway i hope the brake thing can be solved. Other than this i don't have any other issues. If anyone have experienced the same brake issue please let me know. Thankyou!
