Re: 2017 Duke 390 Owners Reviews and Experiences

Owners, can anyone tell me if the air from radiator fan is directed towards lower part of the bike or towards the legs of the rider. Is this bike rideable for city commuting involving 20-25km peak Bengaluru traffic?

Post end 2014 the bikes for the most part started coming with fan deflectors that directs the hot air down ground and not to rider's legs. Though, you can can feel some amount of hot whiff due to the deflection. It's for the most part directed towards the ground.

Once upon a time, a guy asked a girl 'Will you marry me?'
      The girl said, 'NO!'

And the guy lived happily ever after and rode motorcycles and watched sport on a big screen TV, went fishing and surfing, and played golf a lot, and drank beer and scotch and had tons of money in the bank and left the toilet seat up and farted whenever he wanted.

You can conveniently blame the taxation structure and the KA Govt. Lifetime tax is what Motorcycles are charged extra now with. Imagine if you happen to relocate to Kerala with a KA registered bike paying close to 2.91 lakhs, you'll be shelling upwards of 3L for the Duke. MH and KL have the highest tax rates if my memory serves me correct.

          Cheers!

Heating issue has already answered I can see, about LED performance I personally feel not enough considering speeds you can go on this bike as the throw distance is not far enough. However if you compare it with other normal motorcycles or the earlier Duke's headlamps, Its quite bright and the white light is much better then earlier. May be another long range lights can be added to the bike for farther visibility.

Sound changes once you cross 1000 km and ready to rev the bike above the 6500 rpm.

In Maharashtra they levy tax based on the CC of the engine. I don't think it should hurt much for personal use @10% for a 300 + cc motorcycle and if here in Tamil Nadu it's at around 8% of the total cost of the vehicle invoice. But, if your same bike is used for office/company purposes you'll have to shell out 20% for the tax amount, for your same bike for which you paid 10% or personal use.

From what I can reckon, I don't think nothing is broken per se. Is that piece there solid and attached to that plastic cantilever, if yes then it's not a problem. If you see it broken or dangling, then yes it indeed is broken. From what I reckon, it's absolutely fine.

Yeah the tax rates in Kerala are on the higher side. But from what I have known it's still less than that of bangaluru. I got my 2017 rc 200 for just under 2 lkh. It's in the range of 2.2 lakh in bangaluru, I reckon. Duke 390 falls in 2.8x range in Kerala.

I reckon in Kerala tax rate for motorcycles is 6%?

You can check the PDI thread for more information.

After receiving quite a number of PDI queries on numerous ownership threads, I've decided to amalgamate my experience, articles, snippets from different sources, from around the web into a single concise article, for folks who are getting their first two-wheeler. This post is not just limited to motorcycles, but should serve as

You didn't select your bike from the lot? When the bikes arrived, I went down to the showroom and selected my bike, also taking down the chassis number. I suggest you try that? Maybe too late in your case.

I booked the bike from Indiranagar. I've got a decent rapport with the showroom guys, so they allowed me to select my bike from the lot of 15 bikes.

Never EVER pick a bike with 0 on the ODO. I've personally seen that happen at Mekhri Circle where these guys ride and rip a new bike with the ODO disconnected. A 390 for delivery over there was also offered to a curious customer as a test ride. Sadly, the same bike will go that unlucky soul who thinks he got a brand new bike with 0 on the ODO. It is NOT possible for a new bike to have 0 on the ODO during delivery. No chance at all. The only way that can happen is when the ODO is disconnected.
