Re: 2017 Duke 250
check if any of the crash guard bolts are broken, otherwise it is mostly the chain. can't comment further without actually riding the bike.Originally posted by [email protected] View PostYes bro I checked that as well. Everything is in place. I am so intrigued with this issue.
ride another bike or ask someone to ride your bike and check

Re: 2017 Duke 250
Bro I have a small question. I just brought a new d250 a couple of months back and am experiencing some kind of noise when riding the bike on top a small speed breaker or a pothole. The speed is very slow somewhere around 10 to 15 km/h, 2nd gear. And there goes a very plasticky soft thump from under the tank or seat. The chain is set optimally and all the nuts and bolts even from under the seat are quite secure. Suspension is set to 5 clicks. No tools box under the seat. The sound seems to be coming from under the seat, maybe the tank not sure. The mud guard and tyre hugger are secured nice and tight. Wiring under the rear seat are also secured. On smooth roads not a sound, but as soon as you start hitting undulations and at low speeds you can hear that soft plastic thumping sound as if something is loose. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Th

Re: 2017 Duke 250
no they are not, at least not the front among the 200 and 390. the output shaft spline dimension/pattern is different and the 200's sprocket wont go on the 390's or vice versa.Originally posted by strahl7 View PostThanks for the website, I'm assuming the sprockets are compatible across the duke range, but the length of the chain will be the issue.
the 250 and 390 maybe the same since both are 15 T, you might want to check and compare before opting for a sprocket swap.

Thanks for the website, I'm assuming the sprockets are compatible across the duke range, but the length of the chain will be the issue.Originally posted by s1d View PostIt's the other way around.. a smaller front sprocket is similar to a bigger rear sprocket : improves pickup
a bigger front or a smaller rear, 'reduces' strain and pickup and lets you hit speeds at lower rpm's vs stock , and also increase the top speed.
a one tooth change up front is equal to approx 3 tooth change at rear.
Motorcycle speed and sprocket calculator with bike database for gearing, sprockets, tires and chains of over 1900 bikes. Request yours to be added as well.
Use this website to get an idea on the gearing.
The d250 comes with a 15/46 setup i guess.. and i am not sure what other sprockets are compatible with the d250.
for the d200, the front sprocket of a p220 is a direct fit for stock size i.e. 14t. maybe i should get my hands on a used d250 sprocket and see if it matches the d200, if so would be a good mod to lessen the frantic nature and improve highway cruising.

Re: 2017 Duke 250
Well, It's been a little more than a year of ownership of the 250. Here are some thoughts so far -
Looks - Still a bloody looker.
Ergonomics - Stock seat is surprisingly ok. Was afraid of how hard the seat would be going by the reviews of the earlier dukes.
Engine - Feels lovely at 5K to 7k. Feels unhappy after this band. Is sensitive to fuel. Feels best when ridden with HP's poWer
Refinement - Has definitely gotten better over time.
Brakes - A feature by KTM to keep you attentive at high speeds. Also used to slow the bike down sometimes.
Heating - Have been riding extensively in the city (well, city only) Never seen the high temperature warning only on day one of ownership, the first ride from the showroom. You do feel the heat on the underside of the left thigh when it gets bad though. Not a good feeling. Gotta keep the revs low to delay the engine from heating up excessively.
Handling - Favourite part of the bike. It's telepathic, confidence inspiring. Feels like the puts you on a throne and makes you feel good.
Build quality - The plastic fairings creak upon touch - Same as it was on the first day. Nothing much has changed since then. I have it parked in the sun and the rain all day and basically nothing has gone wrong here. The UV resist paint helps, but is prone to scratches. I do not like the quality of the nuts and bolts used however. The leg guard bolt has escaped twice. The bit where you put the keys also vibrate. needed a small donation from the car mat to fix.
Lighting - I love that spread of the low beam. High beam is nothing to write home about.
Gearbox - Demands you to be at high revs at all times for it to work properly, else there are false neutrals and soggy shifts at times.
Efficiency - I get about 30 to 32. Not too bad for a 250.
Bought this bike primarily for city use and the bike has been good so far. One mod i want to do is to change the sprocket and the chain. Wonder to go for a Bigger rear/ Smaller rear sprocket. I know a smaller sprocket would reduce the strain on the engine at higher revs but would reduce pickup too. Any suggestions? What are the options for the chain?Last edited by strahl7; 04-30-2018, 10:20 PM.

Doubts Regarding new Duke 250 2018
Hi xbhpians,
I am Anto, a Bengaluru resident who recently registered here. I hope you guys can help me out and have a good time here. I bought a Duke 250 the 2018 model about 3 weeks ago. This is my very first bike (even though I have ridden a lot before, in my fathers spendor and many of my friends bikes). So I know how to ride a bike. But nothing about maintaining it. So I guess you can help me with my following queries regarding my Duke.
1) Unusual Sound: I can hear an unusual sound when i am riding my bike ( I say unusual because I rode my friends Duke 250, who happen to buy it along with me, and it doesn't have that sound). I believe it was there from the beginning. I never cared much about it firstly because firstly I thought its the usual sound the bike makes and secondly its not that annoying (it is annoying but not that much). I came to notice about this only after I rode about a 100 km. But I confirmed it only after about 400 km. (after another couple of my friends test drove my bike and my friends bike and pointed out the difference). I can actually hear it if I just accelerate even when the bike is in neutral gear.I think this is the sound of something vibrating in side the bike, but have no clue from where its coming form. So the big question should I wait till my first service (1000 km) to rectify this or should I go ASAP? Also I did went to a couple of small trips (below 200 km) and I am planing on another couple (about similar distance) in this week itself.
2) Vibration in Foot Pegs: There is vibration in my foot pegs (both sides) at almost every rpm range (even though the vibration effect varies based on the current gear and rpm). Also since my first service is not done I am riding under 6k rpm all the time mostly around 5k rpm (and top speed of about 90 kmph, but mostly 80 kmph). So because of these vibrations, after a continues riding of say about 30 km or so my foot kinda goes nump (not that much, but i can feel some sort of numbness on the underside of my foot after I get down from my bike). Is this normal? If not what might be the issue?
3) Mileage: I believe I am not getting enough mileage. I don't have hard data to prove it but I can tell why I feel so. Firstly when our bikes where delivered (me and my other friend who bought it with me) we got a deal from the showroom and got almost full tank petrol (fuel indicator showed full bars except the last one). Since our initial rides where just the to and from commute from office to our apartment and his office being farther (5km) than mine (3km) he did the refuelling first. He did it once the "low fuel error" indicator was displayed. He said it was after around 140 km he did the refuelling (he refuelled with Shell V power for Rs 600, about 6.8 litres). But for me I had to refuel (ie low fuel indicator displayed) after just hitting 100 km (I also refuelled with Shell V power for Rs 500, about 5.7 litres). This may be attributed to him having better commute path to his office (his 5 km mostly consisted of highways so he was able to ride in 6th/5th gear most of the time, and my 3km mostly consisted of bumps and turns so I mostly rode in 3rd/4th gear). But i am not sure about this 40 km disparity (about 40 %). But even when we when for our first ride (170 km total) I noticed similar disparity (don't remember the numbers here). It was only before my second trip was I familiar with the different modes (trip 1, trip 2, average fuel consumption etc). So in the second trip (around 140 km) I got a fuel efficiency of 44 kmpl (at least thats what the console said). But then again the amount of petrol I had (as the fuel indicator showed) before the trip and after the trip (low fuel indicator again) does quite add up with what the console said. So my questions here are: How accurate is the fuel indicator? How accurate is the average fuel consumption indicator? If its not that much error prone why was there a disparity between my friends and my bike fuel consumption? Also can I expect to increase my mileage after first service? On a side node, if I hadn't set the trip to 0 (my trip 2 was never set to 0 and hence contains the whole distance travelled) does the average fuel consumption displayed for that trip is the total average mileage of my bike?
4) Engine Overheating: Again after comparing my bike's with my friends bike's coolant temperate indicator, I have discovered he bike runs cooler than my bike. Just for instance while i am cruising through highways my temperate level is always just two levels the max level, where as my friends' its either 3 or at time even 4 levels below the max level. As the frequency at which the temperate level reaches the max level is much higher in my bike than his. For instance in the last trip we went, while coming back, once we reached the city area, at every signal (around 10 signals) my bike was hitting max temperature levels. whereas my friends' bike had reached the max level only at about 3 places. So what could be the issue here? What can i do to rectify it?
I have more general questions regarding bike maintenance which I will ask later (in this thread or another, based on the input from you guys to this thread). So as of now I am waiting to reach 1000 km to give the bike to first service during which I will explain to the guys the problems I am facing. So please suggest to me if I should do something even before that.

Re: 2017 Duke 250
you have to briefly press the 'set' button to scroll thru the various readouts.. all information isn't shown in a single screen. everytime you press the set button a different set of information is shown.Originally posted by snoufaltariq View PostHey guys.I have a query. Does your speedometer show all the info like the duke 200s and 390s. Mine shows very limited information. It doesn't show time ridden and AVG speed for the particular ride. If you know the old dukes you should know. It shows real time fuel consumption and some more details in the trip meters. I'm really pissed off guts. Please respond.Peace ✌
i haven't checked out the 250 personally, but i believe it should be similar to the 200 and older 390's.
Of course the owners manual will probably have more information on using the console.. you could download one online if you do not have a copy.

Re: 2017 Duke 250
You can take it to your nearest SVC or a roadside mechanic, as ask him to do it for you. Probably takes less than 15 mins.Originally posted by DarkKnight78 View PostI am inexperienced when it comes to working on my own bike. Can you link me towards any tutorial? It'd be great!
