Welcome to the RTR tribe.Do post some pics of your new beastOriginally posted by vineshp View PostGot my Apache 180 ABS today!
Thanks for all fellow apachians- esp.chicane, drifty, ajmal and all others for helping me choose this ride!
Will update as I go on..
EDIT:.Yesterday, got the last free service done from Priyanka TVS at Panvel. The servicing work was very good, much much better than other svc centres I have seen.I will recommend this SVC centre to everyone staying in and around Panvel. Now the jerking issues at lower rpms is completely solved. The culprit was the0 TPS(Throttle positioning sensor). Also bought the feeler guage and got the tappets adjusted from my mech as per the company spec i.e.0.06mm for intake & 0.08mm for the exhaust, the svc guys had kept very low clearance at the exhaust valve. All this work was done in front of me as I NEVER 'leave' the bike for the SVC guys to rip/rape it on behalf of me.
Overall, the ride is much smoother than before and seems more eager to redline!!!
Engine oil was again replaced with SHELL AX-7 10W40 SS oil-Rs315,excellent engine oil atleast for me!
Oil filter replaced-Rs40
TPS replaced-Rs120
D.I.Y-Valve clearance setting RTR180
D.I.Y-RTR180 brake fluid replacing/brake bleeding
D.I.Y-RTR180 brake pad replacing/cleaning
Exploded view of Mikuni BS-29 carb

Nice to hear the roarOriginally posted by Abhii46 View PostIts almost a 6 months old video.
In this video I had kept the rpm max to 5k, above that it starts beating your ear drums.
While on the move it sounds much better. It sounds like a helicopter from a distance on highway

How did you find the performance better on highways? I mean, the trips. Also, if you toured on some hills, would like to hear the experience.

Bike felt more smoother than ever before. Increased torque and power can be easily felt. While cruising at higher speeds bike felt more relaxed than ever. The top end has increased. Was able to touch 130+ as many times I wanted, whenever I tried it touched. With tank full, a baggage tied at the rear seat and with me fully loaded, it touched 133, I think with favourable conditions it will go upto 140. Will try that next time I go on a empty stretch. During my last two trips I was able to touch 122kmph at max, bike was almost 28000kms old. My best ever is 135kmph, I think its easy now to break it.Originally posted by gixxer_junkie_m View PostHow did the big-bore perform during the trip?
While riding at Ooty's 36 hairpin bends, I took most of them at 3rd gear, some of them at 2nd and few at 4th and once or twice at 1st. Whereas the other 180 rider stayed at 2nd gear or less most of the time. The increased torque was more evident there.
It gave a mileage of 44-46kmpl for the full trip. With lots of riding on hills and almost 80kms of ride full with potholes. During 1st reserve in the trip it went upto 125kms in the reserve.
With respect to acceleration: My previous best was 4.0secs, bike was 7k or 8k kms old at that time. Few months back it was 5.1secs. Tested acceleration again. 1st attempt: 4.1secs, 2nd: 4.0, 3rd: 3.9, 4th: 3.8, 5th: 3.8, 6th: 3.7secs. This was when I thought that I'm not able to get good start, messing up my 0-20kmph. I think a better rider, who can give good start, can easily touch 3.5secs, or may be less than that.
It surely is. I hear it daily.Originally posted by Rtrlover83 View Post@Abhii46
Awesome sound track there bro
Dreaming of the day when i'll have my ride fitted with a FFE too

When are you getting it?
As mentioned above, performance was fantastic( atleast for me ). I rode a lot on hills during my trip. But after this recent trip I'm in love with my bike more than ever before. I rode hard, improved my cornering skills, shifting my butt right and left, missed touching my knees on ground by few inches, have to improve more on that. The main thing was, that bike was rock solid. It didnt gave me even one shaky or scary moments. It boosted my confidence even more. I knew Apache is very stable bike, against common misconception by Pulsar and yamaha owners, but in this trip it impressed me a lot more than before.Originally posted by Garry_Menace View PostNice to hear the roar

More on this, please! What is its function? How does it affect (the throttle response)? And, what made you replace this? That'd be helpful as throttle inputs are not very crisp in my bike. That racing throttle response is lost. As a result, my racing DNA has not been unleashed properly during the last few weeks.Originally posted by Drifty View PostOil filter replaced-Rs40

You got both, the big-bore and FFE from Joel. Right? I was wondering what could the FFE do alone. Affording a big-bore, right now, is not feasible for me. I am thinking of a FFE alone. Any idea how much bump/gain in acceleration to expect with FFE alone? I need a faster-than-stock 0-100 kph machine; want to shave off a second or two!Originally posted by Abhii46 View PostWith respect to acceleration: My previous best was 4.0secs, bike was 7k or 8k kms old at that time. Actually, I find RTR's handling to be edgy and there's a lot of guess-work involved. Not that, I find it unstable. 'Scary' could well define the condition. It turns in very quickly and effortlessly, but sometimes I find it hard to maintain the line. Which is not the case with Yamaha or Pulsars (only the 220F). Just my opinion, may be I underestimate RTR's capabilities but that's it.Originally posted by Abhii46 View PostI knew Apache is very stable bike, against common misconception by Pulsar and yamaha owners, but in this trip it impressed me a lot more than before.
Also, this doesn't make it any less of a corner carver for me. I always enjoy leaning the bike to the hilt. Only that the heart is always in mouth!

Hey buddy, just sharing my thoughts here. The RTR 160 is ultra flick-able around corners, but is not that stable mid corner and the rider get's scared as well. It's nature is favored on a race track but around corners on our roads, it's a lil' hard to live with.
But the RTR 180's extended wheel base (the rear tire now held back further by employing much longer swing arms, finally
) and better tires make it stick like any thing at mid corner (at the apex or half way through the corner) and maintain the line. Yes, it's the overall lightness of this motorcycle which is something one should get used to.
